He Got Game - Jesus Shuttlesworth

apparently spike was interested in both iverson & marbury, but neither one of them wanted to audition for the role ...so spike moved on.

wow, you guys must be really young.

the movie was supposed to be a loose adaptation of stephon marbury's life. he didn't wanna play himself though.

and yes, allen iverson was the first choice.. the film company actually wanted kobe, but he turned it down as well. so, they went with ray-ray.

^^^Rick fox gave Jesus the campus tour of some big school where he cheated on his girl with 2 white chicks. Great movie, and Ray did a sick job in it. But idkAI could have ben $$$ as Jesus. It would be hard to top Ray in that though.

but overall AI>>>>>>>>Ray

and yes i could see how Steph would be wanted. he is very charismatic (especially young Steph) and Jesus was from Lincoln and played at Coney Island, and hisname was referenced numerous times in the film. But there is no way that was based off his life. In the movie Jesus's dad Jake (Denzel Washington) killedhis mom and went to jail for his whole life and was let out to try and get him to play at Big State. Stephon was in a family of 5 brothers (Jesus had 1 littlesister) and Stephon was very close with his dad (Don who just passed away) and im pretty sure his mom is still alive. There is no way that movie was made afterSteph's life, but i could see why Spike would offer the part to steph.

i think some shoe politics might have come into it. at that time, kobe and iverson were the faces of adidas and reebok, and spike's pretty heavilyassociated with nike. also, i think their egos might not have let them play the role of stephon.

oh, and the info i read was from an interview with spike in an old SLAM, shortly before the release.

The movie turned out just fine and iverson definitely could not have been Jesus the guy is barely 6 feet tall. I cant remember a guard with that kinda hypeexcept for marbury's cousin (he is so good i can't remember his name)

I wish Iverson would have took the role. His rookie year was vicious, 6 feet bangin' on dudes, crossing everybody, man to tell the truth, AI deserves moreprops than he gets.

^^^dude def does and he still getting it done... He got game is a great movie tho and i cant forget them 13's

Man we need another basketball themed drama flick like this or Blue Chips with pro ballers in it.

I remember reading about this somewhere in a split article about Marbury and Iverson a few years after they were drafted. it talked about a sort ofunspoken animosity between the two and how it was clearly one of the reasons Iverson turned down the role in "He Got Game". He didn't want to beplaying the role of his biggest rival early in his career (a lot of people argued Marbury was better coming out of college.)
