The Boston Globe -
Gilbert Arenas said Sunday that he plans on opting out of his contract after this season. He said the Wizards are his top option but he is willing to go elsewhere.

"I want a new contract for the longevity of it and get another six years at the end of this deal," said Arenas, who is making $11.9 million this season. "I don't know what's going to happen. I could have signed an extension this year, but it wasn't going to make sense for me. If my own team doesn't take me, I'll go somewhere for a lot less to win a championship."

Arenas said his contract situation wouldn't deter him from returning this season, but he said he won't play until he's 100 percent.

Interesting little tidbit, I wonder how much A LOT LESS IS?

Come back home to LA Gil to play & win a championship with the team you grew up watching

Black Mamba & Agent Zero in the same back court would be:

I say work out a sign & trade with the Wizards:

Odom 14 million dollar contract, Javaris Crittenton, and a # 1 draft pick.

Get the deal done this summer Mitch !

Man a Laker Lineup like this would = Dynasty

C: Bynum

PF: Turiaf or Kwame resigned hella cheap

SF: Kobe

SG: Arenas

PG DFish

Bynum dominating down low in the post which he already is doing this season, Turiaf playing hard with energy and doing the dirty work on the glass, Kobe doinghis thing killing teams with his all around offensive game while locking up and shuting guys down on D, Areans killing teams with his deadly outside shootingwhile getting setup with Kobe drawing the double teams or Bynum drawing the double teams in the post.DFish doing his thing wih his sniper shooting from outsideand continuing to provide his veteran leadership.

You guys are missing the point...Gil has said over and over, that his first option is to remain in Washington. On top of that, the Wizards have the right tomatch any offer-sheet that Gil signs from another club. His barganing stance has taken a blow due to his knee problems. The ball is in the Wizards court (nopun), and they have shown that they are just as competitive without him in the lineup. Does he make this team better? Of course. This man owns DC. However, aswe have seen EG has been a shrewd man when it comes to contract negotiations and player movement. He has been right on some additions and subtractions to theWizards roster. Most Wizards fans have full-faith in Ernie to make the right decision. As I have said before, Caron Butler is the heart of the team....as hegoes, so do the Wizards.

*on a side note, Jamison is a free agent this summer. I would like to see him remain in DC for the rest of his career. Another year or two of starting, thenmove back to the bench to be a 6th or 7th man. By then Blatche should be ready to get those starter minutes at either the 5 or 4. I think that Jamison stillhas another 5-6 good years left of being a productive scorer. He doesn't rely on athleticism, so that won't be an issue. He finds the most unorthodoxways to score, and that will only benefit him as he is getting older. He's a dude who can EASILY average double-figures in scoring for the rest of hiscareer. Instant offense.

Arenas needs to look at the Hawks or the Cavs, he wouldn't fit either team perfectly but he definately makes the Cavs into a defender and the Hawks into adangerous team

Gil-Johnson-Marvin-Smooth-Horford with Childress-A.Johnson-Zaza off the bench

Gil-Larry-Bron-Gooden-Z with Varejao-Sasha-Gibson off the bench

I think the point your missing is that Gil most importantly wants a chance to win a championship and he knows and sees that he cant get it done in DC withButler, Jamison, and the rest of the role players.Especialy now with the Celtics having their big 3 in the eastern conference.

lmao @ Gil and Kobe on the same team
laugh.gif
, who's gonna shoot?I've honestly seen Gil run down the court and shoot the ball 8 consecutive possessions as soon as he got the rock.....thats crazy! The Wizards better gethim a new contract asap, they'll lose alot of ticket sales if this guy isn't on the floor. I live in the DC area and havent even thought about watchinga game now that he's gone, it's just boring.

Wow - it only took 5 posts for a Laker fan to come in here and post a mock offer....lol

^

This may sound cold & harsh but now I can see why some people use to make jokes and call the Wizards the Clippers version of the eastern conference.

Let see here:

-Treated MJ like crap when he played there and made his 2nd comeback then their owner decides to go about it by acting like MJ never played for theirfranchise.

- Drafted Kwame Brown # 1 overall...enough said.

-Traded away both CWebb & Rasheed Wallace

-Traded away RIP Hamilton

I live in DC too, and as far as superstar factor they do need gil, he does help draw crowds, BUT the team is a team nonetheless and if they can get some othergood players in a trade for Gil they can be contenders even without gil with Caron as the true leader... They would be a better 06-07 Bulls,, IMO

Ha Ha Gil aint going no where. DC made that ni99a
