I'm trying to get into the sports industry. I played a college sport, have a sales background, obviously have a passion for sports, and I'm willing torelocate. Does anyone have any advice for me or is there anyone in here that works for a sports team and can help me out?

I appreciate the help!!!

Start from the bottom (as an intern) and work your way up. Look into an MBA with concentration in sports management if you dont want to start at the bottom.

I am going to begin working with U of Miami bball team this summer. I mean i would try and find a way to get on a program with an internship and than work yourway up. If you cant get on an internship right away do things to help you out. For example if you want to be in basketball like me, you go to try and do some*%*! like coaching or other things, cause that looks nice on your resume, and maybe someone can put a word out for you. Thats the best i got for you, but goodluck man.Cause thats kinda what worked for me, but im not out of college like you yet.

I appreciate the help guys. Keep the advice coming. If you know anyone that could help me out please let me know!

I'm three years out of college. I worked retail for two years to try to become an EKIN for Nike. After that I worked for a staffing company for about 7months and was basically forced to quit because I was interviewing with Nike again. I'm honestly so fed up with interviewing for the position and havegiven up so much not to get hired. Each time I didn't get the Nike job because of an internal hire. I really think that the only job that I will trulyenjoy will be involved with sports. I've been told that ticket sales are the way to go to get your "in" so I figured I'd do a littlenetworking on here.

I played baseball in college and was offered a coaching job out of school but coaching isn't really the route that I want to take.

^ If you want to get into baseball go to the winter meetings. They are held each year in a different location. There's a massive job fair for minor leaguebaseball there. It's mostly sales jobs and internships, but if you want to get in, it's a good way to go if you don't mind working for very littlemoney for a couple of years to get your feet in the door. I went twice, and I was offered jobs in broadcasting for minor league teams, but I didn't feelthat the money (or job security) was enough for someone with a college degree so I decided to get into a different career. Currently, I work in banking, and Ido sports announcing as a second job / hobby. I do PA Announcing for a local community college ( football, volleyball, mens and womens hoops), in addition tothe Arizona Fall League (minor league baseball) And MLB Spring Training. I'd love a full time gig doing it, but for now it's a really fun hobby. Ifsomeone hears me and something comes out of it, I'd be thrilled. I was a finalist for the Memphis Grizzlies PA job the summer before last, however theypicked someone with no PA Announcing experience so they didn't have to pay a lot.

I'm not too concerened with the sport, as long as it's baseball, basketball, or football. I'm just hoping that it's a job that I enjoy and Ican afford my rent, student loans, and whatever else I need. Thanks for the advice nba.

Well my brother always wanted to be a college basketball coach. so he went into the FAU mens basketball office, talked to rex walters and now he is startingfrom the bottom as a student assistant. thats how u start.

I work at the minor league ball park in my city, ive benn there since i was 15. I only work in concessions but i put in 13 hour days setting up the ballparkfor the games each day. Ive met everyone in the front office and it helps when they have job openings because they will think of you. Ive met many guys fromthe Eastern League offices, even the president of the league said if i was look fo work after school to drop him a line and he would see what i could do.Really working from the bottom up is the way to go. Just make sure not to step on any toes and meet as many people as possible. you never know when that nextjob will open up.

I've actually checked out workinsports.com and I've also checked out teamworkonline.com I guess one of the biggest things is landing an interview witha team outside of where I live. Any other suggestions? Thanks guys...

If all your concerned about is a job in sports, make sure your covering the whole spectrum. I mean like rec centers, schools, pro teams, management firms, equipment, promotion etc. I recieved my degree in Sports Mangagement last year and the most important thing you have to do is network. Jobs in this fieldrarely go to who is qualfied, especially entry-level positions, because they fill a lot of those with some executive's idiot son or something. If you finda company or a job you like, just contact the Human Resources office or a person in the field your interested in and start asking questions about what theirlooking for.

I have no problem with networking. I'm honestly trying to move from the east coast to the west and don't want to move before I have a job. Thanks.

Search the name Bret Yormark for the Nets. He is the perfect example of what you would have to do. Started as a ticket sales rep & now is a marketinggenious for the team. Like dude said, gotta start at the bottom & work your way up.

I have his email if you want to ask him any questions regarding the subject. Get at me if you are interested.

Whatever you want to get into, the hardest part is getting your foot in the door somewhere. A lot of the time, nowdays, the fact that you have a college degreedoesn't mean squat anymore. A lot of employers would rather have releted experience than the degree. IMO, that is a bunch of crap, but it is true.

If you email him with your name & return email, you'll be set.

Just explain your postition as of now & ask about what he did in order to get where he is. Im sure he'll provide you with some solid info. He has agood story to where he is now.

I'd kill for a job with a professional sports team, especially since I'm pursuing a Sports med degree. But seems like that dude from the Nets got hisgrind on and is doing well. Gonna keep looking into this.
