In an interview on Sunday, Chris Webber told News 10's Bryan May that he will sign with a new club and be back on the court in a matter of days.

"I'll be back in two weeks playing basketball," Webber said.

Webber said he hadn't made any firm decision on where he would resume his NBA career, but the 16-year veteran said he had fielded offers from several NBA clubs and had narrowed his choices down to three teams. Webber declined to name the teams he was considering.

After the Detroit Pistons failed to resign Webber during the offseason, the five-time NBA All-Star
rejected offers to play in Europe, instead choosing to spend time with his family.

"This is the first year in 15 years that I've gotten to spend New Years with my family, Christmas with my family," Webber said. "I'm the oldest of five. For some reason it was just very important for me this year to be with my family."

Lakers Looking At Adding Webber

Now that their franchise-center-in-training will be taking at least an eight-week break, the Lakers are perilously thin in the middle.

Kwame Brown has started 178 games in his seven-year career, and newly anointed backup Ronny Turiaf is more of a power forward.

In an update provided by a team source, Chris Mihm is at least two weeks from returning, if not longer, from a sore right Achilles tendon.

Thus, the Lakers are sifting through the free-agent bin and coming up with such names as Chris Webber, P.J. Brown, and DJ Mbenga.

The Lakers were intrigued by Webber a year ago and have been in contact with his representatives. They think he fits the mold of a triangle-offense player -- good passer, good jump shot -- but are concerned about his physical condition.

Webber, who will be 35 in March, has not played since last season. He averaged 11.2 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 29.9 minutes in 61 games with Philadelphia and Detroit but did not re-sign with the Pistons after their playoff run.

though i dont know if it would really help us at all, but if he could run the offense from the high post like he did with kings under adelman, i wouldnt mindit one bit

The Lakers are in a great position to pick him up right now...It never hurts to pick up a veteran F who has playoff experience.

Chris Webber + New Jersey Nets = Eastern Conference Finals
Not even.

maybe a contender team like dallas or san antonio
Dallas doesn't need him anymore, and I doubt San Antonio does either... I wanted him in Dallas before the season started, but Brandon Bass hasshown me more than enough, and the Mavs are finally hitting their stride after a slow start. No need to throw a wrench in things and bring in a guy that'sgoing to want his shots.

The Lakers seem like a good bet at this point. Denver now that Nene is out? Does Boston have any money left to spend?

i hope this interview wasnt just today .. is that a hint he wants to sign with the lakers knowing bynum is out..

Dont Do it Mitch!!!!!!!!!

Pistons don't need him, let the young bigs develop some (no not Dysse and Sheed, Maxiell, Hermann, Johnson, ect)

Lakers might fit alright, hes really unselfish

Heat could use whatever they can get, but I think C-Webb wants to be in the postseason

Nets.... eh.... not so much.

i think he'd fit in pretty well in the celtics offense. can he commit to playind defense? no, but id still take him

plus he has the same last name asme, and it would be cool to get his jersey.

did you not watch last year? at first it was cool having him, but eventually, his need for touches at the elbow (and flip running the offense through him)really took away from a lot of the other guys. chauncey was reduced to bringing the ball up and dumping it into webb, then standing around on the 3 pointline. rip turned into an isolation guy (i really miss his running around for mid-range j's), and tayshaun simply didn't get enough touches.

not to mention the fact that he's a defensive liability.

while i don't blame webb entirely for the playoff collapse, i really think that he took away more than he contributed to the pistons. i kinda blame flip alittle, because his "opening up the offense" really meant that instead of running the team motion offense, the pistons offense became just another"your turn, then my turn" isolation offense. so yeah, no thanks. as someone who was a fan of webb during his younger (and even his kings) years, ireally hope he can stay retired.

if the celtics signed webber, that would be the pnly way i would turnaround and cheer for um.

but it wont happen because chris webber is a black history buff and alot of black athletes do not want to play for boston...

Yeap, he'd only make our average-age higher by about 2 years.
