NBA MVP Thread

Another thing, you know that Stern is going to ride the favorite of "right now" to get that MVP. As much as I want to see guys like Kobe, Dwight, Royget the MVP, you know its going to be either Lebron or KG because of Stern, when really other players deserve the award.

Top 5 (in order as of today)
Kobe
Garnett
Chris Paul
Brandon Roy
Dwight Howard

Nobody else should even be mentioned at this point, other than maybe Caron Butler.
Lebron is helping his team more than Chris Paul is helping his
LeBron has ZERO chance unless the Cavs make a serious charge in the second half of the year. With guys like Paul, Roy and Kobe carrying theirteams (teams not much more talented overall than the Cavs, mind you) in a much deeper, more competitive conference, there's absolutely no chance for statmonsters like LeBron to get it if their team is hovering around .500.

Right now KG is running away with it

Lebron James, Dwight Howard, and Chris Paul are also up there as potential candidates.

Caron Butler- With Antawn Jamison's assistance, he's kept the Wizards from sinking to the bottom.

Kobe Bryant- After a whacky summer, he's balanced his numbers with team play, and presto! The Lakers' kids have developed nicely are will battle to thefinal day with Phx for that division crown.

Brandon Roy- For obvious reasons

LeBron James- Because he's LeBron James.

Without a doubt, KG.

What the Lakers are doing is great no question about it, but, it's more because of the emergence of Bynum than it is Kobe.

Last night's game is an example of things to come.

Kobe back to playing one on five ball.

As Lakers fans know, when it's like that, the Lakers are like a .500 ballclub.

Yeah, KG has All-Stars alongside him in PP and Ray, but, the Celtics are dominant right now. KG being the main reason, bringing that defensive tenacity.

For me? If the Celtics keep up at this pace (or anywhere close to it), I have to vote for KG if I had a vote.

Actually, I'm not sure how the voting works, but if it were possible for me to vote for KG and Kobe as co-MVPs, I'd do that.

I think co-MVPs happens only if the top two people are tied in voting, though. I don't know.

But I'm just saying I'm equally impressed with Garnett's play and how it has impacted the Celtics and Kobe's play and how it has affected theLakers.

That's no discredit to Paul, Howard, Nash, or Kidd, though. I'm just more impressed with those two (who I'm equally impressed with) than any ofthose others (and Kidd is my BOY, too).

Amare Stoudemire. His defensive dominance has helped the PHX Suns dominate the pacific division. When it comes to rebounding, he is a man amongst boys. Hishigh energy play and outstanding effort on the court is unmatched, and irreplaceable. Without Amare, who knows where the PHX Suns would be? How could you notgive it to him?

I've been wondering this for weeks now, so let's hear your reasons.

Why should Kobe Bryant be considered for MVP? Because he's taking less shots? Because his teammates are improving?

Why should Kevin Garnett be considered for MVP? Because he has two other All-Stars on his team, that, should he not be there, would still make up one of thebest teams in the East?

Hurting me to see Caron get some MVP votes! We could have had Kobe, Caron, and Bynum in one team... instead we got Odom and Kwame ... But yeah, Caronprobably won't win it since he's not on superstar status.. Most likely KG will get it then Kobe.

That's a .500 team before the KG trade.....no defense.

KG really has been incredible this season, even if statistically it's not his best year.

He has them playing 110% every single night

For me personally...

- Garnett is the best player in the league. Kidd is my favorite player, but I've been pretty consistent in maintaining that Garnett is the best player inthe league for me. The fact that he is now playing with a couple All Stars is irrelevant in MVP discussion, in my opinion. How important a player is to theleague, how talented he is, and (unfortunately) his teams record is what the voters consider. Taking those 3 things in to consideration, he's where I'mplacing my bet for MVP.
As far as why I would vote for him for MVP, I think is the best combination of 'talent + leadership + league importance', which is what an MVP is tome. I think he is extremely talented, an excellent leader, and extremely important to the league.

- Kobe is the most talented player in the league. But like I just said, the voters take into consideration the record of the guy's team. And in the last 3years, Kobe's team has seen 2 first round exits (after being a bottom seed in the West) and a non-playoff year. But this year, he is the leader of theWest's current #1 team.

I know people say it's a weak argument (and I'm not saying they're wrong), but I guess I'm going with the 'Best player on the bestteam' argument for both conferences.

I wouldn't be mad at all if your boy walked away with it, though. Dude is legit, certified, and everything else synonymous.

KG will get the MVP.

Just because.. kobe and the lakers wont stay at the top for long..

As far as who is MOST VALUABLE to his team, it has to be Lebron.

But we all know the award doesn't work that way so it's a toss up between Garnett, Kobe, and maybe Paul or Howard.

without Kobe, the Lakers wouldn't make the playoffs.

so i think as far as MVP goes Kobe > KG right now
That's like saying give Lebron the MVP because without him, they'd be a NBADL team.

Or take Nash off the Suns, and the Suns are nowhere near the powerhouse that they are.

IMO, Kobe is on the MVP watch list, but, not high up there.

Kobe is Kobe. But, the reason why the Lakers are playing so well right now is because guys like Bynum and Farmar have developed way faster than anyoneexpected. They're legit. Especially Bynum, looking like the second coming of the Shaq out there. And we all know how good the Lakers/Kobe is when he hassomebody worthwhile down low in the blocks.

Again, KG has All-Stars in Pierce and Allen on his team which definitely helps the cause, but, KG brings that emotion/tenacity/defensive effort that branchesout to the rest of the team.

That's the reason why they're so dominant right now.

They put the clamps down on opposing teams defensively.

But the thing is, that's not how it works.Voters take the record of the team into consideration more than anything.
If they went by most valuable, Kobe would have won in 06.
Cleveland without Bron<Lakers without Kobe.
That logic is flawed however, the Warriors were 1-6 when S. Jackson was suspended, they're now a playoff team with him back.
Should Jackson be considered for MVP?
No.

As a Blazers fan I think it is really premature on mentioning Roy. Lets wait and see where this team ends up and how far they may go. Roy is tearing it up, butI don't feel he is the entire reason Portland is doing so good. He has been out in games and Portland has still won. He has been amazing though, but like Isaid, lets wait until march/april to bring him up.

mark my words...
if the Lakers stay top 4.. Kobe will win....in a landslide.. especially if he keeps them in top 4 while Bynum is down
