Carolinas must have been selling quick.  I checked last night right after I saw this post and all that was left was a medium.  I scooped a pair because that is exactly the size I needed.  Looking forward to checking them out in person.

So replica, twill, and  "player" shorts are like replica, swingman, and authentic basketball jerseys?

Replica is all screen printed, twill is twill base but with stitched logo/patches and "player" is authentic?

Yup, they're twill.  Just read the item description.

Replicas are usually $40-45, Twills are usually $55-65.

so again, whats the difference -from somebody that owns both- between a pair of swingman and a pair of authentic nba shorts as it relates to materials used and stitching of logos?

as well as size differences? any help is appreciated. thanks.

It varies through the years, by style and by company.
Here's the best I can surmise based on my experience...

Nike

Elite (ended around 2005): Huge difference between retail Elites and team-issued shorts.  All Elite's used traditional mesh regardless of what team-issued material was.  Waistband was weak.  Fit smaller and shorter.  Team-issued was heavier/thicker material, an extra layer on the inside of the shorts and the anti-slip rubber guard on the interior of the waistband.

SOD: Retails actually had a second interior layer on the shorts while the team-issue did not.  In many cases the gap between retail/team-issued is small.  Slightly different materials and the waistband (again, rubber guard is on the team issued and the waistband is firmer/more elastic) but for the most part their isn't a gigantic difference as there was with Elites.  Retails are huge and extremely long like team-issued.

HE: I don't own any team-issued HE's so I can't help there.

NBA

Swingman: cheaper/thinner/flimsy tackle-twill patches.  Cheaper or simplified waistband.  Smaller/shorter than team-issued.  One-layer shorts instead of two-layer.  The team-issue Revolutionary 30 shorts are gorgeous IMO, the ones I've seen in the NBA Store in NYC are as dope of shorts as I've ever seen.  Beautiful materials, so comfortable.  $150 price tag is hard to swallow though.  If I liked the style of the Knicks' shorts more I'd suck it up and pay that steep price, the shorts are that nice.

Adidas NCAA

Swingman (Point Guard's as their now dubbed): Trash IMO, very thin material and run on the small side.  Nice waistband/trim though throughout the shorts.  Very cheap/flimsy tackle-twill patches.  An even lesser version of NBA Swingman shorts.

Sizing for the Nike Twill shorts have been inconsistent lately. I used to always get XL in them but recently the L seems to fit like an XL. The L's have gotten so big and baggy that I think I can probably wear M. Also, the materials vary. I bought the grey Texas shorts and they are made of a lighter material and fit smaller than the other shorts I got (Florida, UNC, Arizona). So for the grey Texas, I could have gotten XL but that would have been way too big in the other schools.

Saw the Duke and Kentucky platinums at Niketown Boston. Material is the same as all the other hyper elite. No differences that I could tell

Uconn platinums up on Football Fanatics

I ordered a medium although all my other pairs are Larges (both Twill and HE). I went a size down because I think HE's fall too stiff at the knee in comparison to my twills which have that heavy, "swishy" feel. I'll let yall know how they are when they get here, if they were though old twills I would have ordered a L

SN: Do you guys think any new teams will get new unis around conference tourney time? Teams like Michigan State...

Same material...only no lining!  If you wear these short, make sure you wear compression shorts underneath them.  Like the previous ones, there are holds up the side.  Only difference is there is no lining.  I am a huge Nike fan, and have to admit that these shorts are one of the biggest disappointments in person.  Love how they look, hate how they feel.  They're right when they say they're light.  Half the material and a raise in price.  No thanks.  I will say that the jacket is very nice, and was an easy purchase.

are platinum shorts authentic or twill shorts? I don't mind the missing layer but if these are what the players are wearing then i'm game for a pair or two. I want to the see the difference between the shorts

Not sure why you added on to my quote but its cool....Anyways the initial hyper elite shorts that Nike made did not have the lining. I have 3 different colors of the black ones below and there is no lining. There is also no lining in these navy ones I have. The lining is more for style in my opinion. They put the holes in to make them lighter and more breathable then they put a lining to cover the holes. Doesnt make sense

I have the black/red shorts but in a navy color and love them. I just keep hearing a difference between the twills and team issued. I want to see the difference up close and personal. This is the first time I've seen the price hike with a jersey along with shorts being $80 which I hope both are close to the team issued.

^ are you talking about hyperelite material or regular dri-fit material. The team issued hyperelites feel like the black/red shorts 2 posts above and not like the 2010 USA twills.

cant believe you guys like they umbrella material shorts. i got the germany and china ones from the olympics and i hate them. wayy too thin

yeah i'm talking about the black/red shorts without the lining.  I have the twill usa shorts and have the practice shorts the usa players had on in vegas.  The material is different and just wanted to know what i was getting into by buying $80 shorts
