LSU's top-rated football recruit, cornerback Patrick Johnson of Blanche Ely High School in Pompano Beach, Fla., said he still plans to join the Tigers even though he was unable to begin school this week as expected after his ACT score was flagged by the NCAA at the request of Florida Head Coach Urban Meyer.

Johnson, the nation's top-rated defensive back and No. 2 overall defensive prospect by Rivals.com, said he took the ACT again Thursday and is awaiting results in hope of registering for the spring semester by the deadline next Thursday.

"I'm still coming to LSU," Johnson said Friday via telephone from his Pompano Beach home. "(ACT officials) are trying to get me out and get everything cleared up. I was good to go regardless. I just had to take it again for the writing portion."

Johnson said he took the ACT three times before Thursday, scoring 22 in October after 16s on his first two.

Johnson said Florida had no problem with his academic eligibility when he first scored his ACT. It wasn't until after he decided to attend LSU that Urban Meyer had one of his assistant coaches contact the NCAA. ACT officials subsequently reviewed his test results at their request and "flagged" his October score.

"I'm not upset, Urban is" Johnson said. "Florida made an issue about the ACT score. They're cowards. He had to go behind my back when things didn't go his way. But that's OK. What goes around comes around. We play them this year (on Oct. 11 at Florida)."

Johnson, who committed to LSU on Jan. 5, had expected to arrive in Baton Rouge by Wednesday to begin taking classes and participate in spring practice with an eye toward earning a spot on the two-deep depth chart.

If Johnson does not meet Thursday's registration deadline, he still can sign with LSU on Feb. 6, national signing day, in anticipation of joining the Tigers in the fall.

"Everything is going to be cleared up," Johnson said.

Not that i'm defending Urban...., but PJ is a proven liar. He cheats on his ACT and he's just looking for somebody to blame. Just an immature HS kid thinking his *%$% don't stank

Chuck the Chest tried that w/ Devin Hester??? I know he's a questionable recruiter....But he's good down their in So. Fla....I read how hepiches the fact that their is a greater chance of getting shot down in Mia than in Tally....

On negative recruiting When Les Miles ranted about negative recruiting on Signing Day, most thought he was talking about Alabama.

It turns out Florida might have been his target as well.

Sports Illustrated has a story on the Gators' recruiting class this week. In the magazine, LSU recruit Terance Toliver is quoted telling a Houston TV situation, "Every time (Florida recruiters) came, they said LSU doesn't qualify its players.''

The magazine quotes Florida coach Urban Meyer as saying, "What some people perceive as negative recruiting is often factual. We just present statistics to people - our graduation rates and how we qualify our guys compared with all SEC schools. We would not single out LSU.''

But when Miles gave his infamous Bayou Bash rant, it was Alabama, not Florida, singled out with an F word.

I guess it depends on whom the negative recruiter is.

"Every time (Florida recruiters) came, they just said LSU doesn't qualify their players," Toliver told FOX 26's Mark Berman Wednesday. "About (how) their academics are not all that. His HS coach and AD went to LSU and checked out the academics and came back and told Toliver "They just came back and told me whatever Florida was saying about the academics wasn't true."

"In the mean time Meyer has completely compromised the integrity of the kid he is recruiting, encouraging him to lie, to deceive, and to manipulate. Think about it. Urban is asking a 17-year-old to deceive not only another school's coaches, but also his own parents, his high school coach and members of the media in order to maintain the charade. The approach is as cowardly as it is effective. Rather than engage in an open competition for a player, Meyer lurks in the shadows. He plants seeds of doubt. He spews particularly effective venom because he "knows" Notre Dame from the inside. But because he swears the kid to secrecy the slanders go unrebutted. Meyer's methods resemble nothing so much as a pedofile's grooming techniques. It's low and slimy and completely corrupt."

Any athlete who graduated from Ely High School within the last 10 years has an IQ of below 70....There athletes never go to class or school for that matter, they only go on game days so they are allowed to play.

Urban was also the one that was telling Ronald Johnson that Michigan was blocking the mail that he was sending to his HS. Complete BS and too bad it didn't work for him. I believe he also had a hand in James Wilson switching from USC to UF. The guy knows how to lie. Urban Liar is one of the better dirty recruiters in the game.

at all of you mad at Urban's recruiting methods. You guys are mad because he calls out other schools on academics? Do you realize the type of @@!@ other schools pull when recruiting?
I think we all do.....All schools do some sort of negative recruting.....But Oscar Meyer od's on it.....

But its working for the prick....
