Tiki Barber not jealous of Giants' success[/h1]

BY NEIL BEST
January 20, 2008

Tiki Barber has maintained a low public profile during the Giants' playoff run, commenting primarily on his own Sirius Satellite Radio show.

But he did sit down with PBS' Charlie Rose for an interview that debuted Friday night.

Even though the Giants are a victory from reaching the Super Bowl, Barber said he has no regrets about retiring and added, "I'm proud of them. They've done a lot and accomplished a lot."

When Rose asked if Barber is concerned that the current group of backs could make people forget him, he said, "I hope they do. That's what it's all about."

Barber said that while he is a Giants fan and will root for them, as a fan, he also would enjoy the drama of Brett Favre against the Patriots in perhaps his final game in the NFL. "It's just a [good] story," he said.

He doesn't care. He didn't retire because he couldn't play football. He retired because he wanted to move on.

Prolly scheming as we speak to figure out a way to come out of retirement for one game.....if anyone had to eat crow it is this self-absorbed jerk. This is thesame dude who sits in the NBC studio week-in and week-out looking for anything negative to say about his former team. You'd be a liar if you didn'tthink that Tiki had that "God" complex after the first two games of the season when the Giants had all that turmoil and negativity surrounding them.He did anything in his power to make himself look like a bigger man all while throwing some of his ex-teammates and coaches under the bus in the process. Ihope the Giants win the Super Bowl (unlikely) just so they can invite Tiki to the parade down 5th Avenue.

I'd almost guarantee that if Tiki wasn't a UVA grad, Joka would be singing a different tune.

Exactly. I was surprised he didn't rip Tiki since he played for the Giants...

Probably. But only because I wouldn't understand where he's coming from. You're talking about a guy who was valedictorian of his high schoolclass and excelled in the classroom here. Football was never his #1 priority, unlike 99.999% of the guys who make it to the NFL. He's like Robert Smith. Hedidn't retire because he couldn't play, or because he didn't think the Giants were any good. He retired because he wanted to move onto biggerthings.

I respect Tiki and all hes done for the Giant org. But he's really acted like a jerkoff since he retired(actually even before he retired). He's aknow-it-all that bashed the giants when they were down but hasn't said *$@* since. With that said, i'm glad hes off the team.

Im pretty sure they wouldnt have made it this far with him.

the power struggle between him and Coughlin killed that locker room in the past.

On a side note, imagine if Shockey was playing ...

He should've had a lot more class after he retired. Oh well, our younger backs are playing extremely well.

I gotta co-sign to that....Barber put his "own" agenda over the betterment of the team. He was all about the self-promotion at no matter what thecost. He created rifts in the past by speaking on Strahan's contract, being up Wellington Mara's butt, etc etc....he is a two-faced snake, and for allthat he said and did in his tenure both on and off the field, I am VERY happy for the Giants doing it without him. This is a big piece of humble pie, andhopefully this will shut Barber up.

deep down he's sick...for tiki, seeing the giants move on the superbowl is comparabe to one of seeing our ex get engaged to a guy who lives in a mansionand drives a ferrari. its not a good feeling!

It's a good thing he stopped fumbling for those last two seasons in the league or people wouldn't even remember this dude.

Chester said it best, I for one am glad he is no longer playing. As you can see by the Giants performance, we don't miss him.

good riddance! ive heard that a lot of the players now feel like theyre better off without him

look the man has aspirations to be the next..

I don't think anyone doubts the reasons why he retired. People are upset that he made his pending retirement an issue during the season and that hecontinually called out his former teammates from the studio booth this year. If Tiki was so smart then why couldn't he follow the unspoken code of footballconduct?
