To my basketball players, have you ever been in the ZONE?

I went 7/9 from three, for 36 points in an intramural game a few months ago. I was feeling it and yanking from 2-3 feet behind the line. It got to the pointwhere I started to completely ignore the guy guarding me and would just throw it up like he wasn't even there.

And as far as REAL comp goes I had 15 pts (on a 100% shooting, 3/3 from outside) 6 boards (I'm a tiny 5'10" 2-guard), 5 assists, 2 steals and ablock (1 TO) in my 2nd high school start. I only memorized that number run cuz it was my first, and unfortunately one of my last, GOOD game in high-school.

the last game i played before i left new york..

we play 1s and 2s to 21, change court at 11.. for some reason, i got stuck with all the old guys (30-40s) on my squad, against all the 20-somethings. my teamwas down 2-11 at the change, and i just went off. started popping 3s (well, 2s) like nothing.. i think i hit like 5 or 6 of them to get us back in the game. itwas so crazy they were even double teaming me at the 3 point line, at which point i'd either dump it in to a wide open guy for a layup, or fake the 3 anddrive in for a fingerroll..

we got back into the game but eventually they got it to point (20-18), and i came down and hit a 2 for deuce.. so it's 20-all, win by 2. they come in, andi swat the guy's shot and grab the loose ball..

as i'm bringing the ball up the court, i kinda hesitate halfway between halfcourt and the 3 pt line. at which point, the two guys that were on me kinda letoff, and one of them even said, "aight dude, i'll let you shoot it from there."

so i did. swish. game. peace and chicken grease.

I know I've only truly done it once, because after and before it, nothin can compare

Memorial Day one year at a picnic, I was like 14 and me and my friends against adults

It didn't matter what I threw up, it was goin in. It was an out of body experience

Na not really...lol...maybe a game in 8th grade intramurals or two...but never in HS or pickup now
laugh.gif

I'm a good 5th guy on a team...I'll never force or turn the ball over, but I'll hit the open shot and I'll box out others out of the paint

*aka I suck

oh yeah, and one from chi-town.

i used to live in a predominantly black neighborhood, and whenever i'd go down to ball (wherever, really, but this particular time was at the courts onMartin Luther King), i'd be the only minority.

yes, they'd call me yao. even though i look nothing like him.

anyway, one time, this guy tried to dunk on me, and i kinda let him get by me and swatted it from behind, off the board.

the ball bounced towards halfcourt and i ran after it.. i had the momentum, and i was wide open, so i just took off and SLAMMED it through. and everyone wentwild. (except the one cat who i had just swatted on the other end)

i remember back in middle school i was chose to represent out school for the basketball intramural competition.i sucked at basketball, i used to be so weakthat i couldnt even make a free throw, i was airballin them%%%@%# like lebron/kwame/ben wallace. i was only chosen cuz all our good players had bad behaviorand poor grades, during practice i would either make all my shots,or miss all my shots. and i mean ALL my shots.

during the competition, just happened to be one of those times where i missed all my shots.......in front of 7 different schools. all those people man.

it was +##%%*% embarssasing.

Yes a few times the most memorable episode was my Jr yr during a co-ed intramural game. the guy's aren't allowed to go into the paint... I went througha thing... 11 3's (NO LIE... May The Lord stike me if i'm lying) I'm talkin about fast break pull ups, step backs when you're already behindthe line... I was on Dummy and I finished with 53 that night we won by 30+... It was a good night

My most memorable "zone" experience was a couple of years ago in a rec league...dropped 42 on the team we played on our way to finishing 2nd in ourdivision...I couldn't miss that game, shooting from NBA range 3's. The crowd was egging me to continue shooting, and I did and couldn't miss. Ithink we won by 15 points...crowd went nuts after I made the last three from NBA range with a defender in my face...oh the good old days...

Also, as ska mentioned, this by no means qualify me as a D1 or D38 player, just my "zone" experience.

In 8th grade I had 43 points and went 9-10 from deep against one of the top AAU teams in the state. Also in a mens league last year I hit 45, with prolly 6-7treys but I got a lot of stuff in the post so I guess that might not be in the zone.
It is the best feeling next to sex

Man, with these replies, dont you guys wish you had Kobe's ability to school anybody on the planet for one day? I mean, damn it must be awesome to be dude
laugh.gif

^^ha yea i know right. Dudes are schooling professional players who are in the NBA at will when he wants.

Yup, best feeling ever. But I've only been in the zone with my jumper. It's really other people that set me up while I spot up and hit consecutive longrange bombs.

at this tournament in high school

26-10-10 against a top 10 team in the province. won the game like 88-74

next game same tournament

32pts

championship game

6 pts. got shut down
frown.gif

and in 8th grade dropped 30+ on my former school

In college i hit 10 or 11 threes in a row. Dudes was hella salty, like can yall check this dude. I was just throwing up$*$! to see if it goes in. I dont thinki missed a single shot that game. Its was nice until the 4th period when i tore my acl smh double edge sword i guess.

I was playing friendly bball with my friends after school. This was sophomore year. For some strange reason, I hit like 16-20 jumpshots (I'm pretty suremost were 3's, but there was no line on the blacktop, lol) in a row. I just kept coming down and popping them, like Kobe pulling up on a fastbreak.

Now, I seriously don't have that great of a jumpshot. I mean, the form is good, but the rotation is horrible (kind of like Kenny Smith's rotation onhis jumper back then). I'm not a 3pt shooter anyways, I prefer to drive and get layups.

I stopped playing basketball, but damn, being in a "zone" felt good, especially when you're playing against dudes that talk alot of ++#!, andthey shut up or start playing it off afterwards like it was a fluke.

I remember one game when I used to play for this church in my neighborhood, I went off. I dropped 36 on this team and I wasn't missing. I was throwing sickdimes especially this one where I pulled up for the jumper and seen my teammate cut and hit him with the pass. I had to be like 14 and I remember I went up tograb a rebound and I got up SO HIGH, like I felt like I could've dunked the ball. Man that feeling is indescribable.

I was in the ZONE once or twice...
pimp.gif

Most memorable was an organized game where I dropped like 30+... This was a long time ago though.
laugh.gif

Yeah I was just throwing bull +%$+ up and it was droppin... Scored like 12 straight in the 4th but we still lost.
smh.gif

It's a crazy feeling though... You don't even have to think about it, just catch and shoot.

I'm sure a few of you guys can relate...

My favorite memories (i'm 34, don't play too much anymore) are when I would be on fire and the guys on the other team would start fighting with the guyguarding me about playing defense better. They would actually start to switch up defenders and sqwable about playing me tighter or how that guy"wasn't playing me right". I would end up with 2 or 3 different players guarding me over the course of the game... I was 5'9 and prettyskinny but could jump over the defense on turn around jumpers or post ups. Then go outside and either bang a 3 or drive finish/dish. I miss those days
frown.gif

i had 27 pts in 3 qtrs my sr of HS. had it been a close game i would have score 40+ b/c everything i through up was good. i was making step back J's likeallan houston

I was in the zone for my intramural game for my school. There was a loose ball but it seemed like everybody just went to the other side of the court. I justtook the ball and laid it up. After that I stole the ball didn't push it then passed ran around for some screens and drained a 3. I kept draining 3'safter that playing good D. I think I went 4/4 from the 3 and played some good D.

My boy and I were playing pickup at the Y and I was just doing so good driving. He was crashing the boards like I never saw. Offensive boards too. The thing isthough I kept getting cramps from my calf. It hurt like a mother!!!! How the hell can I get these cramps to go away.

i played for boys and girls club in 8th grade and in all 10 of our games we had, i had 20+ points each game. but there was this one game where i REALLY got inthe zone. stats: 35 points, 18 rebounds, 9 blocks and couple of assists. they had the tallest guy guarding me but he wasn't that fast so they would bringdouble teams but that really didnt help either. that game i was just feeling it, everything was just coming together you know.
i remember after that day, they had kind of a assistant coach and when he watched that game and a few others, he left that team and started sitting on ourbench LOL.
im not saying im a NBA player or even a college player, im just sharing a story and no this aint no ducktales or nothing. sorry if i sound cocky or somethingbut im a humble guy and im just sharing what happend in one of my games.

but recently i had a game with 20 first half points...

but ended up with 25 total
smh.gif

I had 33 points in gr. 10 (6'4" PF) off of 7/7 3s and my only missed shots were one put back and a free throw against a good team. That might notsound like a whole lot but our coached loved to run down the shot clock and the PF in our offense almost never got shots. Then the next game I was 6/7 on 3sand I probably only finished that season with 20 made 3s total, I know I never made more than 3 3s in a game the rest of my time in HS.

One time, I was playing in a intramural game in front of all the 6th graders (It was either 6th or Seventh).....And my jeans were baggy as hell....and Up untillike 11th grade I had no coordination and was+*#% in basketball...

And I tired to do a crossover....But I stepped on my jeans and fell on my face......And had a mild concussion....
laugh.gif
smh.gif

It was funny cause, I knew a lot of kids so they wanted me to score eventhough I sucked+*#%....

So yeah...

Just thought I would bring that up....

I still laugh about that till this day....LMAO

Luckily things changed once I hit about 16....

But as for being in the 'Zone', I have been extremely efficient from the field, like hitting numerous buckets in succession....But I wouldn't say Iwas in the Zone....Cause that means that I can't do it again...
