Whaddup tho. Okay, so my new year's resolution was to learn more about soccer. My whole fam is from africa and they been playing soccer for generationsback home and what not. I've got cousins that play in low key clubs in Europe, I even had a cousin that played with the Amsterdam Ajax for a minute. Onewould think that I would keep up with world competition other than the world cup but nah

I barely know anything. I know a few names like Kaka, Robino, The BrazilRonaldo (since World Cup 94 in the states), Ronaldino, Messi (sp?) from Argintina, Donovan from the US team, Adu, Zidane, Beckham, Christiano, Rooney, blahblah. I know of the few clubs like AC Milan, Barca, Liverpool, Man U. While the little information I know is more than half of what the United States knowsabout soccer

I want to know more. So please, school me on:

  • What, where, and who is the NFL/NBA/NBA/CBA/NBDL/WWF of World Soccer
  • Who are the marquee/impact players of the leagues (ie; Lebron James of Soccer? Kobe of Soccer?)
  • What channels besides Galavision, Telemundo do they air these?
  • UEFA/Champions League? What's really good with this?
  • Who are the horrible players of the leagues? (ie; The Kwame Browns of Soccer?)
  • pimp.gif
    in advance

Can I piggyback off this?

I love watching the World Cup, but I completely don't understand what goes on the other like 47 months in terms of qualifying and all that. Anybody care toshed any light (very slow and simple)?

okay first off with the leagues dont pay attention to ANYTHING but the

Premiership- the top league in England (very tough league, play is more aggressive, considered the ultimate test in soccer for many of the players)
Series A the top italian league--> very skill oriented, fluid game, but if your a guy who doesnt like flopping you will not be a big fan.
German Bundesliga--> not sure if i spelt it right, but i do enjoy watching german league play... very tactical, great passing, and play orchestration.
Spanish Premiership--> See italian league

Some top marquee players

Cristiano Ronaldo= Lebron james/Ginobili.... Great young player, a joy to watch, can break down ANY defender. Sometimes brings out a girly side which manypeople do not like, but he is a supreme talent regardless and in my opinion the best young talent in the game, yes even over messi

Lionel Messi= Chris paul. Great playmaker, really understands the ins and outs of the game, watch the highlight of him taking it coast to coast. The kid wasbuilt to play soccer.

Ronaldinho= Kobe bryant/Nene hilario = best player in the world until a girl messed with his head (similar to nene's porno honey). Can do anything with aball, and by anything i do mean anything i wouldnt be shocked if he could do backflips the entire field and still maintain controll of the ball.

Frank Ribery= allen iverson = small, crafty, and an absolute warrior. Love watching him play for France as well

Kaka= footballer of the year, BUT, he only shows up for champions league. That is his top stage, he is unbelievable but somewhat inconsistent...

Donovan SUCKS- dont even consider him in anything hes a shook mark who cant play overseas.

zidane = one of GOAT. Watch some Zidane videos, my alltime favorite player to watch period.

Rooney= dwight howard with injuries= young tough, skillful with the ball, great speed, but inconsistent.

Didier Drogba= vince carter with the raptors= unbelievable scorer with highlight reel goals... magnificent for Chelsea im gonna hate to see him leave.

Theres ALOT MORE but thats just as quick breakdown of SOME players sooo many more to name those are just some i really like

Fox Soccer Channel (FSC) if you get that channel, shows a lot of club games...Shows some English Premiere league and some Serie A Italian league...I likewatching the Italian league matches. for the non World Cup time, everyone pretty much plays with thier club teams in their respective leagues, and they comeback for WC qualifiers and Euro Cups, etc...but it's kinda like in olympics for basketball. Yao will go with the Chinese national team during the olys butthen go back to the nba afterwards.

I like Kaka as 1 of the best young talents...and one of the best midfielders = Seedorf who's also on AC Milan
I don't understand how AC sucked in the Serie A this year. They got those 2 plus a guy like Pirlo who is a free-kick specialist. It'd be like a KyleKorver or someone who is in their for their specialty. My personal favorite dude Gattuso cuz he's a badass...like a Bruce Bowen

EPL - highly entertaining, high scoring, high speed, high quality
La Liga - highly technical and fundamentally sound...many say highest quality of play
Serie A - similar to La Liga, more of a defensive style, slightly less quality of play imo
MLS - improving, but has quite a ways to go

^ Paul does dominate more consistently than lionel, and is unquestionably more of a leader, but i thought it was a similar style.

my dream team backcourt for the next ten years would be paul and roy

Best Leagues - Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, pretty interchangeable as to which is the best, i'll say PL though.
Best Players - Crystiano Ronaldo, Messi, Gerrard, Rooney, Fabregas, Kaka, Tevez, Drogba
No idea about U.S T.V
Champions league has the highest standard of play in the world, no question.
Horrible Players - Crystiano Ronaldo, stay on your feet you bumb.

Pretty brief i'll add more later.

To echo that, most of the major European countries have at least one league, sometimes multiple leagues. Prinse listed the top flight leagues, but obviouslythere are dozens of others. So in that respect, it can't directly be compared to the NFL or the NBA. However, the UEFA Champions league includes teams fromall over Europe. Teams play in their own, national league, but also, if they can qualify, participate in the European league. Winning the UEFA Champion'sleague is the top honor, but teams that are eliminated from that have a chance to compete in the UEFA Cup, which, while still prestigious, is a bit like aconsolation prize.

Setanta Sports carries UEFA games and shows matches from other leagues (as well as rugby, Aussie football, etc.) It's a great channel.

There are a variety of deep-cutting rivalries in the same vein as Sox/Yanks, although there is definitely a lot more violence associated with soccer rivalries.

Some especially hateful ones include

Celtic - Rangers FC (The Old Firm)
Man. U - Man City (Manchester Derby)
All the London clubs (ie Chelsea, Arsenal, Westham, Tottenham, second division teams) seem to hate each other
Inter Milan - AC Milan
Boca Jrs - River Plate

Furthermore, there are also rivalries associated with national teams. USA v. Mexico is always a pretty intense game. Argentina v. England get into it. Germanyv. Poland has a lot of political background (Although I suppose Germany vs. any team will carry that)

im still on the fence over tevez, i really like his game and the way hes built, but hes been a dissapointment for me so far in manchester.... and i cantbelieve i forgot fabregas... shame on me..... id compare him to brandon roy.. no one expecting +%!$ from the blazers when oden went down (similar to henrybouncing from arsenal) and theyve managed to run the show

UEFA/Champions League? What's really good with this?
- This is like the top championship for club soccer.
- It's European.
- Think of it like the NCAA Basketball Tournament where the best teams from all of the leagues are grouped together in the competition.

What channels besides Galavision, Telemundo do they air these?
I think if you subscribe to the ESPN or FOX Sports premium channels, you will get european club matches......

Yea, I agree Cristiano is good, but he's a #$+$# dude flops like no other
laugh.gif

and Tevez is pretty hype, not as good as people make him

myp2p.eu is great place to watch games on line.............

manchester united is the most followed club with 400 million followers

cristiano ronaldo is currently the best player

^my sentiments of tevez exactly... he had a couple good world cup games and all of a sudden hes put on a pedestal. And about Cristiano see the ginibolicomparision

For a throw back players from the recent past who were world class,
Zidane, Figo, Del Piero, Paul Scholes, Zola, Bergkamp, Gazza, Shearer, Buck tooth Ronaldo, Ronaldino, Henry

AC Milan & Barca are kinda like when the Lakers had Kobe, Shaq, GP, & Malone...they got the star power, but aren't playing up to expectations

smh.gif

Tevez disappointing this year? Come now.
Crouch is Kwame Brown? You are obviously clueless.

your family is from Africa? so its a great time for you to get into football as the African Cup of Nations is going on right now.
I gotta go but I'll be sure to hook you up with some information when I get back.

all you need to know about the african cup of nations is that ivory coast is GANGSTA

You want to be schooled? You know how Manu Ginobli flops on the basketball court? Multiply that by like 10 times. The only difference is Manu doesnt lay on thecourt pretending he is injured afterwards. That is soccer in a nutshell.
