Found this info while searching through wiki:

These are just what the leagues take in per year from television and nothing else (not including DirecTV deals either)

NFL - $3.74 Billion
NBA - $765 Million
MLB - $670 Million
NHL - $72 Million

And if anyone cares, NASCAR's is currently $600 million.

Beyond NFL's disgusting numbers, the NHL's situation is absurd. NBC is currently airing weekend games for free and pay no fees to NHL.

NHL needs all the exposure it can get after their strike.

So all that $72 million is from the Outdoor Life Network (?)

I misread at first, I thought the first on the list was NHL, and last was NFL, I was perplexed by how the NHL made 3.74 billion,

Is this America only? or does it include international numbers as well?

Just America's TV stations only.

Yup, Versus is paying that $72 million annually with NBC paying nothing.

I wonder if the NHL will get back on ESPN? I would assume that once their current contract is up with Versus, both sides would begin to chat...however, I thinkVersus re-upped the NHL for the next 3 years, so maybe there wasn't much interest from other networks....I mean, die-hards are going to watch regardless, but they have lost MANY casual fans since the lockout and losing out on the deal w. ESPN. Hopefully, the NHL will get it right in a few years.

Man, the NFL is ridiculous.

And they arguin over givin some players their pensions and helpin out with health care and stuff for some of the guys who got the league where it is today. They need to step up on that.

Ya DirecTV is paying over $700 mil a year to the NFL for the Sunday Ticket rights (through 2010). That number is not included in the above numbers.

What this shows me is how much the networks are worth. If you can pay that amount of money for one single entity then you really have no cares in the world. Iwanna be the person paying out those checks rather than receiving them. But thats just me

I see 2 great marriages with:

NBA on NBC --- Triple header Sundays

&

NHL on NBC --- Double header Saturdays

Who said that NHL is "coming back". $72 mil? Numerous rapstars can afford that.

You can see why they're so desperate for attention though, remember the "The only thing our refs shave is the ice" campaign early this season?

That was a stupid slogan, as is "Where amazinghappens"...

I've heard the NHL has one of the best ticket sales numbers however... they're thriving off of their gates, last I read.

No one in America can understand how well hockey does in Canada. Hockey Night in Canada on CBC (Saturday Nights) usually shows a double header... andanywhere from 10-30 percent of our ENTIRE country is watching.

Again, these numbers aren't ipressive when you look at our total population. But look at the top 10 teams for attendance... all 6 Canadian teams are in it.

Now, does this help the NHL expand into a US market? No. But why force feed a sport to a country that will always place it number 4 or 5 on their list? Thereare exceptions...but I think the NHL needs to rework their deal, and start moving out of citys *cough* ST Louis*cough* and moving teams to American marketswho want it, or the 4-5 Canadian cities that are guarantees to support an NHL franchise.

NFL! NFL! NFL! NFL!

They are the dynasty of sports. I see a very long run on the top of sports for the NFL in America.

Those were the days. NBA on ABC just isnt the same.

Same goes for Sunday night football on NBC or Monday Night Football on ESPN. It just doesn't seem right.
