NikeTalk Quick Start Guide

Welcome to the new platform! As you can tell, there are a number of things about the new NikeTalk that look and feel different. We wanted to be sure we provided an opportunity to show our loyal members a bit of what is possible.

 

New stuff in Forums/Threads:
 
From the main Forums page, you'll see that threads with new posts are indicated by the green check on the Forum Icon:

Looking at a subforum page with a thread list, you'll see that threads you've posted in are highlighted:

To jump to the first unread post in the icon, you can click the icon that identifies threads with unread posts:

Forum Preferences:

 

You can access your setting and preference by first clicking on your the "My Profile" tab or your username. From here you can do things like change your avatar, upload photos, edit your signature, and edit your profile or preferences. A good place to start is the "Edit Account Details" button.

There are some very cool forum preferences that allow you to view the forums in more compact, wider, or just different ways. Check them out and see what you like. You can always click the red question mark for more info.

Subscriptions

 

You can get to your subscriptions at any time via the icon at the top of the page:

The Subscription Activity Feed is designed to work as a series of on and off switches that allow you to drill down in to specific content or broaden your view, rather than a series of tabs that allow you to jump from type to type. Those tabs exist, as you can see below, but the activity feed was designed to be a more living representation of what's interesting to you on the site. Read more on subscriptions.
 
You can subscribe to most anything on this site now. Just look for the star on a forum, thread, review, article, or even a fellow user.

Subscription Preferences:
You can change your settings so you'll be notified automatically via email immediately, daily, or weekly on any updates to threads, articles, reviews, or lists you create or reply to.
 
There is a ton more to do and play around with on the site including:
  • Showing stuff off in your signatures like lists of things you own or want, photo albums, classifieds, and reviews
  • Tagging everything with products so that content gets interlinked
  • Adding to photos to community Galleries
  • Participating in the crowdsource wiki
  • Finding deals in the Buy / Sell area

 

and a whole lot more. Please enjoy and let us know if you need to know how to accomplish something.

Thanks for the information shawea and all the work you have done.

 

When I right click on a word in the text editor, it automatically brings up a "PASTE" button.  Is there a way to disable this?  I like to use the right click "spell check" feature built into web browsers.

This is not a part of our system but the editor. You can easily override to the browser right click tools (which includes spellcheck, copy, and paste etc) by holding the apple or cntrl on a PC. Hope this helps.

So people can see your content creation activity in public places like forums and threads, articles, product reviews, etc. But users will not see anything you post in a private forum that they do not have access to, or in a PM.

Yes, you have to reach a post limit of 15 before editing sig's becomes available.

Im a pretty huge sports fan, but only since I started working with Method have I really gotten into this specific area and its pretty interesting, and I love this community. But my experience is in community management and helping online communities be healthy.

Yeah we are actively working on trying to fill in the gaps. There most likely will be some threads missing in the final endgame, but currently we are still making progress. You can feel free to start the thread up again, but if you are willing to give it a week or so, we may have it back for you.

So I guess you'll be taking-care of the technical-side of things?

 

Also, would it be possible to change the color of the threads that I've already viewed?  On old-NT, when I clicked on a link, it would change colors (or go grey). I, as well as many others, use this to keep-track of the threads we've viewed.  I noticed that the icon on the left of the link changes after I've viewed it, but think its generally easier if we can see the "grey'd" links as a way for us to keep track.  The same applies to the page-number of the thread changing colors.  Some threads have over 100 pages and so keeping track of which post I read last will be difficult without some sort of indicator. Thanks again for your time and feedback.

Same as this ^ guy. I tried even getting a new account with my old SN but it won't let me use my SN. And all attempts to password recover have failed.

Am I the only one that can't quote an entire thread? When I click quote, it only quotes that person, and doesn't show the person that they quoted.

Edit: Nevermind, apparently its a preference. "Remove Nested Quotes in Replies"

there is a bug with the tech huddler is using for the pictures. just right click on them and open in new window. huddler is away of things and working on a solution.
