One of the rumors making the rounds at the Senior Bowl practice sessions is that there's trouble still brewing in Oakland. Coach Lane Kiffin has discovered he me may the the head coach of the Oakland Raiders but Al Davis runs all things black and silver.

Citing a league source, Profootballtalk.com is reporting Kiffin and defensive coordinator Rob Ryan are not on speaking terms. Davis wants Ryan. Kiffin doesn't. Several weeks ago, there were reports that the Raiders were preparing to fire Ryan. It also was reported that Ryan would be landing with the New York Jets. The team issued a strong denial, and all has been quiet since then.

It could be that Kiffin is in trouble, and that Davis is waiting for the dust to settle as to other head-coaching jobs or offensive coordinator positions at the NFL and NCAA level before cutting Kiffin loose.

what the hell? is there a link to this?(ok there is nvm lol)

i can't believe this at all

, Lane Kiffin has done everything right so far for the Raiders except win games..BUT He's brought in a winning attitudeand I truly believe in 1-2 years whenever Russell develops, the Raiders are gonna be right back to respectability. the players respect him, and the Raiderswere in so many close games that could have gone their way had it been for some breaks here and there. i may sound like a fool, but if Davis fires him Iwouldn't mind if the 49ers wanted to get him (altho of course that wouldn't feasibly happen until a year later)

Raiders coach refuses to heed owner's call to resign

Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis has been pushing for Lane Kiffin to resign as his head coach and is considering Dennis Green as a potential replacement, sources close to Kiffin and the team told ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

Davis has gone so far to draft a letter of resignation for Kiffin to sign, a source said. Kiffin has refused to do so but has dared Davis to fire him instead.

Kiffin, who was 4-12 in his first season as coach, has two years remaining on his contract at an estimated $2 million per year.

In the letter sent to Kiffin's legal representatives, sources said Davis stated that only he would have control over his staff and full personnel decisions. According to a source close to Kiffin, Davis had promised Kiffin when he hired him that he would have more control over staff and personnel matters than recent Raiders coaches. Kiffin was allowed fire offensive assistants and to name his own staff when he took the job after the 2006 season.

"I'm not going to comment on anything that has transpired in the past three weeks," Kiffin said from Mobile, Ala., where he and the Raiders staff are coaching the North team in the Under Armour Senior Bowl college all-star game.

The Raiders had no immediate comment.

Kiffn and Davis clashed near the conclusion of their postseason evaluation meetings when Kiffin expressed his desire to fire defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, a source said. Ryan himself wanted out to join the New York Jets in a similar capacity, but the Raiders released a statement asking for speculation to cease about the defensive coordinator's future.

Just this week at the Senior Bowl, Kiffin and Ryan both said their relationship was fine and expected to be coaching the team in 2008. However, Davis has not rescinded his request for Kiffin to step down, a source said.

As for Green's candidacy, while team sources said Davis has reached out to the veteran coach, Green said Friday, "I haven't really talked to Al about any coaching job but, really, how many times has my name been mentioned every time something goes on with the Raiders?"

Chris Mortensen covers the NFL for ESPN.

Just got talking to my boss about this.
Ridiculous.
How can we expect to win more than 4 games every year with a revolving door for a coach?
Someone put Al in a home.

but in all honesty..... Al is the biggest joke for an owner ever..... What's that 5 coaches in 6 seasons?
roll.gif
Dude is making Isiah Thomas & theKnicks look like a genius
smh.gif
I'm thinking Al has split personalities or something.....

Wow... Al Davis is a joke. Good for Kiffin, though. Make him fire you. He'll look like a complete fool and idiot when he does.

How are going to even going to consider taking the Raiders head coaching job, especially if you have a family to look after!!!

maybe Callahan will come back....

I would feel bad for Raiders fans, but instead of directing their frustrations towards where the problem REALLY lies (their ownership and front office),they'd rather sulk and moan and whine about the playoff game vs. the Pats and the "tuck rule".....they really can't get over it

(at least some of the Raider fans i've seen here).

You wouldn't think that they had made it to the Super Bowl the following year.

^if the tuck rule happened to your team you would be mad as hell too...that was just BS, no ifs ands or buts
the front office is a mess for sure tho

Al Davis lost his mind years ago. If hates the way the coaches are doing he needs to let go power give a coach a chance to bring players that fit his system. If not Al needs to just coach them himself or roll over and kick the can.

Just win Baby!.....Prolly not gonna happen while you're still breathing, or not while you control all the power.

The Falcons are not the biggest joke in the NFL...

...for today, that is.
grin.gif

could the raiders franchise actually be in a worse state than the knicks?

Kiffin, just come back to USC

God damn it, Al Davis can kiss my@@#+.
Doesn't really suprise though, this team has been trash ever sice Grudan left...

Seriously though...I hope Al didnt actually expect the Raiders to contend for a playoff spot this past year...a 4 win season is not a good one no matter whatkind of spin you put on it, but from what Ive read and heard the team seemed to be following along with what Kiffin was trying to do...

smh...

For Dennis Green?!?!?!?! HAHAHAHAHAHA.....Al Davis has ruined this "once" respectable franchise. Trust, if Kiffin is out, he won't have anyproblems getting another shot at being a HC. Shoot, I almost hope this happens so he can be interviewed for the Skins job
