Being from Canada I have never really picked an NFL team to have some sort of loyalty and connection to. Usually, I would just have an assortment of favoriteplayers who I would route for and an assortment of hated players who's teams I would refuse to route for. But today, I have decided that the days ofbandwagon hopping are OVER. It's time for me to finally pick a team.

I have an I would say above average knowledge of the NFL, but here are some attributes that i would like my new team too have.

Current Standing.

They can't be too good, I don't want to be seen as a bandwagon hopper but they can't have Atlanta Falcons or Miami Dolphins level of hopelessnessand despair but they also can't be the New England Patriots or Greenbay Packers.

Outlook

I don't want to hop onto a winning team and then get Miami Heated. There needs to be some sort of future or developing stars that I can brag topeople about and a decent draft position so I can take part in these these ridiculously geeky draft threads.

History

Though it's not a necessity I would like the team to have some sort of team history that I can fall back on a claim superiority over others. (I.E. YankeeFans)

Jersey

If I'm going to become a fan I'm going to have to purchase some merchandise displaying my fandom, So obviously a nice jersey is a plus.

Proximity.

I live in Toronto so somewhere close by would be nice, but again, it's not a necessity.

Niketalk Following

A decent Niketalk following would be nice, at least 1 or 2 other people so I'm not alone when i have to defend or disparage the teams actions.

So I open to all suggestions, tell me why I should pick your team.

So far the teams on my radar are...

I have a question; Is Al Davis crazy?

Whats good with the Texans, from what i understand Andre Johnson is a beast.

Teams I'm going to have to pass on...

Sorry but that Mangini dude annoys the hell out of me.

The one football fan I do know is a steelers fan and I would have to live down being called a bandwagon hopper for the next 3 years.

Keep the imput coming...

If you want history, you don't have to look far, the Steelers are that team. Fans in every city, travel really well, Steeler bars all over the country, 5Super Bowl rings, very good right now but not an "elite team", never really have terrible stretches of being bad, the Steelers are almost alwaysconsistently in the upper half of the NFL, uniforms/logo not going to change, and you get to wave a towel around. What more could you ask for?

Raiders are probably your best bet. Nah but really, for your situation you could go with Steelers, Bills, Bears, Vikings or maybe the Browns.

I recommend the Vikings, because they have one of the most exciting players in the league in Adrian Peterson.

Seeing that the Bills will be playing a game in Toronto Id go with them. There is a chance they could leave buffalo and go to Toronto permanently as well

Gotta go with the Bears. Had the single greatest team of all time The 1985 Bears. Greatest running back of all time in Payton. And i love em.

^ Why even post that?

Anyways, Bills (closeness) or Raiders (have basically everything you asked about, plus if youre a Raiders fan thats automatic street credibility)...Brownsbecause of Brady Quinn

Jaguars because they're

J-E-T-S, JETS, JETS, JETS!!!

Current Standing:
- 4-12 this year (3rd in the AFC East)

Outlook:
- #6 pick in this years draft (We can't lose in this draft: We either select J. Long to help our O-Line, or V. Gholston to help our pass-rush)

-We had a terrible season, but there were some bright spots. I think we're building a decent team to compete within the next 3 years for the division...(provided of course, the Pats don't get any better

)

-T. Jones had 1,100 yds rushing despite O-line problems, and Cotchery had 80+ catches for 1,100 yds. Our secondary & RB crew are probably our best areason the field.

-We hired Bill Callahan as our "Running Game" coach last week. He'll more than likely become the OC if our offense doesn't improve this year.

History:
-Superbowl III. Joe Namath. "I guarantee..."

@ all the bias.
I say, you should root for the Buffalo Bills. Not too far from Toronto, they've got a promising young roster, they weren't far from finishing .500 lastseason, they nearly upset the Dallas Cowboys on national tv, the Kevin Everrett story is uplifting, they play in a division with the Patriots which can be aplus depending on who you ask, they are the 2nd best team in their division, they've got a decent enough history with making it to 3 super bowls and losing

, Jim Kelly, Music City Miracale, etc. etc. And the Jerseys go hard

Plus the Bills have Marshawn Lynch. and he is hilarious. And a very nice player.
If i were from Toronto i would go with the Bills.
Doesnt Toronto have a CFL team? why not cheer for them?

After further review, the Bills would be good. Sorry to hear about the Steelers guy and you not being able to join the Nation.

Go with the SF Niners

WHY??

It fits almost everything you asked for.

Last years record: 5-11
This team is getting better with future stars in Frank Gore and Patrick Willis
The Niners are one of the most Historic franchises in the history of the NFL.
The Niners jerseys are

especially the throwbacks
There are a good number of fans on NT.

Looks like a good team for you minus the proximity, in that case go with the Bills, Money Lynch

I would have suggested the Texans (thats my team) but its not close to Canada, and there aren't very many Texans fans on NT.

Pros for being a Texans fan:
Good, young team with promising future
Tons of people hated on them when they took Mario Williams over Reggie Bush and VY, but now are giving props
Yes, AJ is a beast
Nice lookin' jerseys
Nice%%*@ stadium
Our coaching staff/front office are on the right track and are building something nice

Cons:
We have never had a winning season (.500 this year was the closest we have come)
Play in the hardest division in football with the Colts, Jags and Titans
There are not that many Texans fans overall, since they are an expansion team, and most people in Texas are Cowboys fans anyway.
We don't have that history you are looking for because we are an expansion team.

Oh, and don't pick the Raiders, you don't want to volunteer yourself to that painful experience if you don't have to.
