The Philadelphia Phillies have agreed to a two-year deal with free-agent third basemanPedro Feliz, pending a physical.

Feliz batted .253 with 20 home runs and 72 RBIs last season with the San FranciscoGiants.

The deal includes a team option for 2010, a person familiar with the negotiations told the Associated Press on Monday, speaking on condition of anonymitybecause the agreement had not been announced. Feliz will earn about $8.5 million from the contract, according to the AP. With the option and performancebonuses, the contract could be worth up to $15 million over three years.

Feliz will likely replace the trio of Greg Dobbs, Wes Helms and AbrahamNunez that the Phillies used last season. Philadelphia's third basemen batted .255 with 11 homers and 76 RBIs last year. Dobbs and Helms remain on theroster.

Feliz had spent his entire eight-year career with the Giants. He's been a full-time starter since 2004, averaging 21 homers and 84 RBIs. Feliz, whoturns 33 on April 27, is a career .252 hitter with a .288 on-base percentage.

The defending NL East champion Phillies also added outfielders Geoff Jenkins andSo Taguchi and pitcher Chad Durbin in free agency this offseason. They acquired closer Brad Lidge and utility man Eric Bruntlett in a trade with Houston.

In one off season, the Giants were able to shake Pedro Feliz and Pedro gomez, good Job!

He hasn't done anything since being with the Giants. I am glad Sabean didn't try to meet his expectations. Now only if Crede is well enough to play afull season. Hehe.

Glad hes gone. Couldnt stand his first pitch hitting(or lack there of) bs at the plate anymore

Feliz is a solid defender with a very accurate arm but he's a hacker at the plate. You never see him working the count and he thinks he can hit anyfastball. Pitchers will attack him with offspeed low and away like they've been doing before and he won't adjust. Look for him to put up homeruns atthat stadium, I'm thinking 28-32 or so, but getting on base is not his M.O. He's a good clubhouse guy and is relatively durable while playing multiplepositions - he can play left field along with first base.

^ don't forget he added Catcher to his resume last season.

I would say he is more than solid as a defender but as mentioned he never met a pitch he doesn't like to swing at.

^Unless they get someone else, probably Frandsen. They need to find a way to get rid of Durham's contract though

even if he has a good season with the Phillies i wont miss him in san fran... he sucked at the plate for the giants...


Know we need to try to get a 3rd basemen... maybe brandon inge or somebody like him... not to much $$$ but i dont think he will make a difference so theyshould really give anything up for him.

95% of the time, in close games, Pedro Feliz will not come through with a hit to drive in a run. If the game is close, forget about it. If the game is ablowout, he will be 3-4 with a homerun and 4 rbis. Or if the Giants are down big, he will hit a solo homerun. Feliz is the MASTER of the solo shot. And thisisnt a reflection of no one being on base, but rather Feliz's inability to hit with men on base. Feliz's hr and rbi stats arent bad overall, but theyare never in clutch situations. You Philly fans will see.

They'll go for Crede if he's healthy in spring training. That's a decent move for the right price. It's all just a stop gap until AngelVillalona comes up (dude is still only 17 ).

Lets say I've seen 20 Giants games over the last year or two.
Out of those 20, I've seen Pedro at bat approx 3x each game.

So out of the 60 at bats Ive caught, he's only seen 60 pitches.
