sometimes I wonder why this thread even exists on this website... Its funny how so many of you actually care about what other people are doing with their lives.. Most importantly, how much you care about how they dress.
NT has changed alot, I know this thread has existed for a while but people used to be a whole lot friendlier on here and threads like these are just stupid..

Thirteen years ago there weren't little goobers running around talking about the sneaker "game". It was just collecting sneakers. There was no need for all of this mixing and matching this designer brand with that designer brand. A guy could simply wear his favorite sneakers with a hoodie/jeans or a sweater/jeans and be done with it.
Of course, thirteen years ago there was no YouTube. And there was no need for the "look at me, look at me" subculture that is really prevelant among Gen Y. It's this heightened sense of materialism, to where every single thing in your life has to be a BRAND. When I was a kid, I couldn't get Jordans or Air Max. But I also didn't get the imposing feeilng from peers that I needed "swag" to fit in.
As great as these modern technological times are, the downside is that we're stuck with mouth-breathers making videos about every freaking thing they own and brand checking. Just seems like people should have some humility about things. At the end of the day, what does any of that crap matter? It doesn't identify you or who you are, what kind of education you have, what films you've seen, what books you've read, what music knowledge you have.
To me, these types of threads are he NT equivelent of Honey Boo-Boo. Kind of a re-affirmation of the idea that kicks are awesome and finding and owning your favorite kicks is one of the best feelings a sneaker lover can have. But, don't be a train wreck. Because people will stop and look --- and comment.

Man shut the hell up. What do you mean NT has changed a lot? There has always been a hypebeast thread in some shape or form. The first hypebeast drawing came from NT and that was years ago when NT sub forums went 20 pages max. If it weren't for guys getting roasted when WDYWT was in General it would still be there. Its clear that you dress this way and are one of the people this thread is about.

so you're claiming there weren't kids following trends back then? you mentioned it, there were no instagram tumblr back then...i'm willing to bet it would be exactly the same......these are just kids doing what kids do....we may find it amusing but most of us had that phase

is it even his own money? if i recall correctly, the dude was balling out of control b4 he was even old enough to have a job...
but aside from that (i think most people would spend it if their parents had it and let them, so whatever), and i don't like to hate on people, but this dude literally only buys things he's seen kanye wear... nearly every shoe i've seen him post, has been seen on 'ye in the last 4 years... them black gloves kanye wore with the white writing on 'em, this kid bought them... that whalers snapback kanye wore, this kid bought that exact one (and no others)... every jordan kanye wears, he has them (but no other jordans)...
it's one thing to borrow things here and there from other people's style, and to follow trends you like... everyone is influenced in one way or another... but it's another thing entirely to, piece by piece, copy exactly everything you see on an individual...
it's like he doesn't even know what he likes, he doesn't have his own personal taste, he just buys everything he sees on someone else... is there a trend he doesn't follow?
if he loves kanye that much and wants to do that, that's fine, if he admits it... but he has the nerve to call himself a "stylist" and "designer"?
i hate hating on people, there's far too much of it on this forum, but i'm calling it like i see it... it's absolutely ok to follow trends you really do like, and be influenced by people (celebrities or not), but have a mind of your own, and don't follow trends you don't like... for every trend i've followed over the years, there's a million i haven't... i admit, kanye has had a big influence on me, and everyone, but this kid takes it way too far, imo...

Following trends was dangerous because the trends were attached to something beyond mere conspicuous consumption - subcultures with rules, codes, etc.
What would have happened if Brandon Sale decided to go follow the Polo trend in Marcus Garvey Village in 1988 and bought a suicide ski jacket, or decided to jump on the Avirex bandwagon in QB in 1996?
Despite all the different brands, looks, and styles these dudes may adopt over the course of a relatively short period of time, they are only following 1 real trend, and that is keeping up with the Joneses. Conspicuous consumption isn't a "style," it's a mindstate - a quite primitive one at that.

alot of these kids following "trends" think **** is sweet fail to realize that in many cases they are actually uniforms that represent certain subcultures/tribes. and while it may look good, it can also mean something to someone and in the right/wrong place something can happen.
hell something similar to that happened to me recently. i went to a dive bar wearing this mishka/rebel8 hat that looks like a biker gang type hat and i was rightfully grilled by the bikers in the house til we cleared up my hat had no affiliation.
