Shoe care 101: Okay fellas peeps be droppin some big bucks on joints...How many of you take the time to keep the kix fresh with cedar shoe trees? The benefits? First they keep the kix lookin fresh and keeps the creasing to a minimum. Secondly, the cedar wood absorbs the moisture your feet generates during wear.

As a habit, you should never wear the same joints 2 days in a row as the moisture takes at least a day to dry out. Yes, all of our feet sweat!

Anyway, every pair of kix I own have cedar shoe trees. Trust, your kix will look newer longer and keep you lookin fly! Invest the extra $25.

Nah, you don't need shoe trees on sneakers, that is only for dress shoes that typically has leather lining. Sneakers just needs to be aired out and you don't need to worry about creases with shoes, just wear them and give them a wipe once in a while, do not baby them much. The rule of do not wear it two days in a row only applies to leather dress shoes/boots as well, something you'd read straight out of a GQ guide for dress shoes actually. :lol:


And you pay $25 for shoe trees? Jos A Bank has one of those buy one get four deals often and each pair are like $5 iirc. Hell even Nordstrom Rack has 2 pairs for $10-$12 and they are no different than the Alfani version you own.

was about to say this. shoe trees are a scam I know cuz I used to have to sell em. especially for $25. especially for creases. if your shoes crease a shoe tree isn't gonna do anything to remove it unless you apply heat to it also
 
Well they do actually work on leather dress shoes so I wouldn't say they are a scam altogether.

I mean creases will still be there but it does minimize it and help retain the shoes shape, this isn't as important with sneakers because they are usually padded inside. Sneakers also do not last as long as dress shoes which can be resoled and polished and be good as new in 10-20 years so retaining it's shape is more essential. Shoe tree also help dress shoes stay a bit more flat since most of them kind of curls up w/o one. This is something that isn't necessary in sneakers because they are a casual pair of shoes and for the most part, the leather on sneakers just doesn't un-crease like full leather shoes, probably because of the padding and other lining taking the shape of the shoe trees. There is just something with a leather dress shoes/boots that it is more tightly packaged and they tend to be minimal while sneakers tend to be have more sewn together parts where it isn't necessary to be straighten out. Does that make sense?

People just needs to embrace the crease really, sneakers looks better worn and lived in.
 
Seeing shoe trees in high top sneakers looks so strange. How do you even get them in there?

These are my reasons for using shoe trees. Never thought about the cedar absorbing moisture but that makes sense too.

I agree about embracing the crease. Actually, I think it is worse to stuff sneakers toes with shoe trees/paper after you wear them. It only gets rid of the creases while the shoes are stuffed. If you have them stuffed for too long and go to wear them again, the toe area may be stretched out if they were stuffed too tight and you will actually get worse creases. I look at creases in my sneakers like I look at whiskers/honeycombs in raw denim. It's natural, adds character, and looks better worn and lived in like RFX45 said.
 
rfx45 rfx45 most high-end sneakers feature all leather insides and my two pairs of LV sneakers (including the Patchwork dons) came with care books saying you shouldn't wear the shoe more then two days in a row due to moisture.

I have grown to except the creases add character to the shoes, as long as they aren't patent leather it doesn't hurt them.

I am a creature of habit and have been using shoe trees for as long as I can remember, especially for my dress shoes. I always hated when my dress shoes used to lose their shape. When I got into sneaks, I just continued.

I like seeing my shoes with the trees in them, they look like they are new & the cedar keeps them fresh. I always store them in the bags that come with the shoes.

Are they worth buying? That is up to the individual. But for me, they work & I don't mind spending the extra for the cedar trees.

BTW, when I put $25, that was just an estimate. Yes, I agree, buy them on sale as they always go on sale...

Yes, most does have leather lining but it is also padded unlike dress shoes where it is just the outer leather and then immediately a leather lining, nothing in between.

Also, LVs notes are generic and it really only applies to their dress shoes. Hell they even toss the boxes the shoes comes in and puts it in a better LV box that has no labels, a pull out box and then they just toss a universal shoe care guide/pamphlet. Unless of course that little guide specifically says sneaker care, I mean have one for each of my LV shoes and none of them were specifically for sneakers care, just general dress shoes which their stores outnumber sneakers by maybe 1 to 5?
 
Yes, your correct. Holding shape isn't so muh an issue but moisture can always be an issue, plus cedar covers any oder as well. They included a pair when I got my Bespoke af1's but that just may be to add value to an 820 shoe.

Well the suede is like a new iteration of their old classic. Can't find pic but Gucci used to make those in white leather (similar to the new ones they released a few month back, pic below) so I think they are just bringing it back.

Those first couple guccis are terrible. Look like the metallic dada supremes that used to flood full pages of old eastbay catalogues and Philip lim target collab offspring

I've bought on SL web site a pair of Hi Top sneakers (white leather with red details) and I was impressed for the poor quality. 

Leather looks like plastic and they appear cheap imho. I've send them back. Not worth the money.

Interesting. The leather doesn't look great in pics. The wheat hi and navy lo in suede look great though. I hate RFX45 for posting the blue joints cuz I want them bad now SMH. Thanks man :rofl:
 
The suede appears better than the leather on SLP.

Honestly I would have preferred an outsole a bit more higher and with a less tapered shape.

I really like Hedi Slimane and some clothes like the leather jackets of SLP (I have one) are top notch but the shoes, sneakers and not, don't have the same quality.

Speaking about sneakers, Balenciaga Pleated and Louboutin Louis (even if the last models don't have the same top quality of 2 years ago) are on another planet imho.
 
the suede SLP's are a lot more comfortable, too. I've wanted those navy low tops for a while now, hard not to pull the trigger.
 
That is weird, my white SLPs has a buttery soft leather, doesn't feel or look like plastic at all.

I also like the low profile of the sole, it works with it's more classical/retro-ish look. Too many baller sneakers out there with gigantic midsoles already and I own a fair share fo them too, the one on SLP works for me.
