Dressing Better Vol 2.0

Different strokes.

However, lux dress shoes ain't lasting no 50 years. My thrifted AE's certainly have though.

these are old as heck, but i've always lusted over the dior b01 gats...I simply cannot find a ds pair in my size anywhere
ohwell.gif

The ones above are my favorite, but these are a real close second...i'd take any if I could find my size tbh i just love the way dior did the gat

Hank, I wouldn't consider AE park ave to be luxury dress shoes. I consider Gucci, LV, Versace, etc, to be luxury shoes. Which all cost about double the price of an AE.

This is a funny question from a guy who wears Versace ties.

Gucci, LV, and Versace may be lux brands but are nothing in comparison to makers like Gaziano & Girling, John Lobb, and Edward Green.

Don't eem KINDA hold a candle

I never understood sellers who say that. I ship to the States and Canada all the time. I go to the same post office. I might have to fill out an extra form, but that's it.

Oh well - I think I'm a 43 anyway

Well, luxury dress shoes have some sort of higher quality with them and can last a very very long time. Not to mention--the leather, attention to detail, and hand stitching all factor into price. Purchasing a nice pair of luxury leather shoes is more so an investment.

What's the deal with luxury sneakers? Someone please enlighten me. I feel like with luxury shoes--they will stand the test of time and can be worn many years later from date of purchase. Luxury sneakers will be worn briefly for that time and fade away into the fashion abyss we call "fads". I really believe those ugly YSL psuedo Jordan 1's won't be worn commonly by people 50-60 years later (not the same shoe obviously). Now, let's take the AE Park Ave's for example. That shoe has been in production for almost 85+ years.

Anyone care to fancy a rebuttal?

Here you go:

These types of debates are ******ed. There's really nothing to understand

You can't be serious with what you said. When I mean luxury dress shoes I mean: Carmina, Alden, Farragamo, Crockett & Jones, John Lobb etc etc

If you're wearing LV, Gucci or Versace shoes then that's another topic for another day

Versace ties are actually very well made ties. Ties and shoes are totally different though.

Sh*t is expensive. I am returning something to SSense (Canada) right now and it'll cost $40 priority USPS, it cost more if outside of the continent, flat rate priority in the US is like $12. Lots to fill out on the customs forms too just to make sure the other end doesn't end up with customs fees or the package doesn't get held.

It can definitely be a hassle especially if the items has different hide materials.

That's not the point. I have had buyers trying to start something, ie negative feedback or file with Paypal because they have to pay customs which is something out of my control.

I send items back home all the time but for friends and family, I'm willing to do.

J. Crew continues to amaze me with their service. I was pretty bum out that they goofed on the matching jacket for my trousers but this gesture was appropriate.

400

I don't live in NY or LA, I don't know about them brands except for Ferragamo.

Also get out of here with that Versace ties being better made. You could have gotten a tie from Jos.a Banks.

I don't even know why dress shoes were brought into a discussion about sneakers

I think high-end sneakers fit into this thread because of their quality materials and aesthetic. I didn't know that sharing those pics would spark this. This thread is still more than just work attire right?

Aldens a luxury dress shoe now?

Ya'll need to look up the meaning of luxury again.
To be fair, not everyone can afford $500+ shoes.

To the ordinary Joe, Allen Edmonds are high end grade while they're really entry level in the grand scheme of the shoe world.

I'm sure a lot of these lux kicks are made by Chinese immigrants in Paris and Italy. However, if you visit the places where old time shoes are made, ie Trickers, Alden, Vass, etc you can appreciate the fine craftsmanship. They really take pride in that stuff.

Expensive doesn't equal luxury.

And no one is arguing about who makes them and you sure have make your point about "craftsmanship" and Chinese migrant workers making shoes in Italian factories every time the subject comes up, which isn't always true and doesn't mean quality goes down just because it isn't hand made by an 80 years old dude who is in it's 5th generation of shoemakers, but you think hype and fad doesn't get into these brands? Trickers and Alden quality has dwindled down so bad in the past few years because of popularity and the sudden high demand that my Gucci and Prada shoes are of better quality than the last few pairs of Aldens I purchased.

I call BS in taking pride in their craftsmanship, the other higher end brand (which is more of a niche anyways) stay true to that but these other brands has thrown that out that window. My black Indys are like B-Grade Jordans, the right shoes in-step is much lower than the one on the left and I could easily point a handful of discrepancies between the left and right pair on that same pair alone.

This will not end well

But realistically, is paying 4x as much for well made ties really different than paying 4x as much for well made sneakers?

Different strokes.

Serious question...

I'm not even debating fashion house shoes vs quality shoemakers but do you own or have you even handled shoes by any of the those you listed?

I wonder sometimes whether some of y'all form your opinions strictly based off of what style blogs tell you and #menswear regurgitated opinion.  I've noticed it when assuming certain brands suits are fused or that if it's fully canvassed it's automatically better, goodyear welted, etc while ignoring other factors.

Everything is so homogenized now that #menswear is essentially a trend.  If you read X brand isn't cool, that's gospel.
