Dressing Better Vol 2.0

I would try I almost always order in store to use my discount. Just copped a houndsooth Ludlow for 242 shipped last night
unless the associate is mad gullable; you will not be able to use your student discount on J.Crew partnerships like Alden, Converse, Comme de Garcon, Penfield etc.

This may be true but it's not as hard as you think an assoassociate would've let me use it on that blue Penfield the other week I just didn't want it

In theory their not suppose to do so which is JCrew policy, I used to work there. They may try to bend the rules to make their sale's quota especially if they are sales associate less than 6 months.

Yeah it's all about the SAs. Aldens are totally not worth it at this point. It's the menswear hype beast. The same Indys that cost me $430 in 2010 now sell for $100 or so more. Aside from exclusive shells I would much go with an England maker especially since we in the USA get a 20 percent VAT refund.

Meermins are still good money though right Wish?

Meermin is beneath ole boy.

Only reason why he eem owns AE is that he copped for the dirt cheap price...and he still slanders

Dalton's just came in (two days after I ordered :pimp:) and I just wanted to thank this thread again. Been lusting after these shoes forever and didn't even know about shoebank. Appreciate the help, everyone.

I wanna go back and look at some of the terrible outfits I used to put together thinking I was doing it.

We get money back if we order shoes from England?
You don't get charged at all, from most places. If you order from say http://www.afinepairofshoes.co.uk/ and http://www.pediwear.co.uk/ They will have two prices, one for UK and one for those not in the UK, which is less. You have a grip load of handmade brands to choose from Grenson to Loake to Crockett and Jones to etc. The lower end ones would be in the $200-300, and higher would be in the $1k+

The only two good shoemakers in the USA left are Allen Edmonds and Alden. The pickings are slim here. This is why I sold 5 or so pairs of Aldens in the last week or two. I think former sneakerheads are copping them

Ole boy? Someone got a couple pairs of Balenciagas and he think he a hot Pinoy.

Yeah, the reason I got them is because they were 2 for $250. And the Hanover was $200...only plan on wearing that with a tux. I hope to God those are more comfortable than the loafers. Not trying to do the schmoney dance in pain.

Good looks on those links

Not exactly dressing better, but loving my new sand DB's. Didn't think I'd wear them much over my beeswax pair, but they go with everything.

I'm not in the same boat as Wis in regards to buying most of my shoes from the mid-tier (Carmina, Alfred Sergeant). I have 4 pair of Carmina's and 3 of them were bought at under retail, including my MTO Python pair. I still stand by Meermin and AE's as a good value and quality for the buck. I have a pair of Meermin MTO's coming in the next couple of weeks. I have about 4 pair of Meermin's and 7-8 pairs from AE.

Have you gotten customs charges when ordering from AFPOS? If not, that would be a pretty good deal.

What is a good blazer size for 6ft 160?
Someones getting me one overseas.
Thanks
would need to check the brand (if it is a well known brand, makes it easier to guess how their stuff runs), IF it is a brand.. then depends on your build (broad shoulders and all that.. long arms)..

probably 40 reg is safe.. MAYBE long depending on where overseas (if the people are on the shorter side)

could go 42 reg and then have it tailored

Speaking of blazer sizes, anyone here rock a 36s? If so, what's your height/weight?

I went from a 40s to 38s over the last couple of years and now I feel like even the 38s is a little too big. I can obviously get something tailored but would prefer a better fit OTR. Debating between a small or extra small Ludlow sport jacket. JCrew small polos fit me great but I have a sz small coat from them last year thats too roomy.

I'm 5"7, 150.....

id bet good money a 40 is going to be too big
trying go on the safe side.. if he isn't going get a chance to try it on himself, you cant tell him to go down..

you don't know if it's slim fit.. how big or small that particular brand runs or fits

for example, I have some older banana republic suits where the blazers are 38r and they still fit.. in hugo boss suits, in their traditional cut suits I'm a 38 reg (these are for work so I don't want them too tapered).. but in their slimmer suits I go 40 reg and tailor down (because I have broad shoulders)

for me it's more about fitting nicely on my shoulders, since I grew up swimming

i'm more concerned about it properly fitting on his shoulders and the length of his arms (things that cant be changed by a tailor)..

the body of the blazer can be taken it to better fit him

obviously. you're not talking to a new kid on the block here. we all know what can easily and cannot be altered by a tailor. in MY opinion, the 40 will be too large over all. body, shoulders, and everything and the cost of tailoring will far exceed the cost of the jacket itself. arm length can easily be altered by any competent tailor. the safest thing for him would be NOT to order something without being able to try it on or at least being measured.

^ was meaning if the arms are too short.. obviously they can adjust arm length in the negative (or if the arms are to bulky or something).. but they aren't going be able to produce more fabric

but yea best bet to go try it on.. cause it really REALLY depends on the brand, if it isn't being hand made or something.. or is made by a well known brand
