Ralph Lauren to End its Rugby Brand by 2013
A few companies have been trimming costs this year by getting rid of their smaller division brands. Add Ralph Lauren to the list as it plans close down its Rugby division. In operation since 2004, the one-stop-shop for all things preppy will shutter all 14 stores and the e-commerce website by next year. Similar to what Nike is doing with Umbro and Cole Haan, Ralph Lauren is back to focusing on globally growing its core brand. To those looking for a similar price point, there’s always the Ralph Lauren Denim & Supply division.

thank god...

i hated this line... hate, hate, hate...:smh:

there are some rugby items that look exactly the same as polo with logos or colors swapped out so what is there to hate?

I check the rugby site more than I do the Ralph Lauren one

What do you not like about Rugby? I've heard a lot of people say they're happy about this news, but I haven't heard any reasons.

honestly, i remember reading about it opening in CT in Womans Wear Daily and i was there when it opened in NYC and i was around when they were stealing workers from J. Crew to work there ...

i couldnt "feel it"... none of it... cant put my finger on it but it was a very cheesy "Polo ID' vibe to it..

then the uptown cats got a hold of it and i threw in the towel...

even though i still have the canvas duffle from them ..

all of you missed out. the trick to not getting ur rugby pieces rolled up like burritos = asking for the FREE gift boxes. they fold them and gently wrap them in paper with a sticker.

I don't like the distressed look.
call me a hoodbooger, but that always reminds me of Abercrombie.
if I'm buying something new, it should look new, with the exception of jeans, and even then most people prefer to wear or distress themselves

Y'all are out of your minds. Rugby was one of the best things going on at RL. They should have exploited the collegiate/younger clientele element to use edgier designs instead more often though. It seems they tried playing it safe a lot more toward the end. I'm hoping they still incorporate Rugby-esque designs in RL's main line. I still sift through pages and pages of eBay listings hoping to find some of the great, older Rugby pieces I missed out on.

it will be interesting to see what they do - go out with a bang or peace out half-assed. if they do in fact close up feb 2013, i'm guessing that the last season would be what's typically spring first drop?

I do the same almost every day, hoping to luck up and find something.
