Out of interest I just wanted to know if anyone here got robbed back in the starter jacket air jordan days. If so post what you got robbed of, what age, (the year if you can recall) and what town. You can also post if you witnessed one or were a robber yourself.

Some young dudes around my way tried to get me for my Orlando magic snapback and matching starter jacket in the early/mid 90's...didn't work out too good for them.

Born in 1981 in good ole' Kings County, NYC.

I got "got" for of course money, snapbacks, North Face jackets ... but NEVER polo gear or kicks.

However, ive had homeboys completely stripped of their Polo gear (especially in High School), earrings, chains, Timberlands (yep, bum *** timbs) and of course leather jackets...

thats when it became real to all of us that a gun is the new pitbull...

brooklyn was a mess, for real...

Because that's the infamous time period that people got robbed for these items. Any other time period doesn't relate to this topic.

Interesting but being that you were born 1981, I'm surprised people were still getting robbed in the mid 90's for Lo and other things cause I thought by then Giuliani was coming down hard on BK and the whole NY. But I guess BK still had a long ways to go?

And also I'll make an exception for mid 90's time period but only for NYC cats cause that's where I'm from. I'm not tryna be a regulator its just I'm only interested in these two times and NY specifically for the mid 90's.

speaking of crazy stories, tho...

one of the wildest one is when i was chillin' in the back of the bodega and this random cat comes into the store and 2 dudes followed him and then asked "What would you do if I took your gold fronts??..." (o_0)

needless to say, dude got robbed that day...

cats were really just robbing dudes for the fact that they ounk another dude not for the bread... just to be like "yeah, i been robbed homie..."

Friend of mind was riding the train in 88 and he's just in the back standing up holding the lil handle thing

there's a kid next to him laughing. so he turns to the kid and asks whats so funny?

he says "ask him", and point a few rows up

another kid is pointing a gun at him.

so he's like man ****... what do yall want

the other one tells him, give us ya hat. we just want the hat.

custom orlando magic snapback

dude gives em the hat and they dip on the next stop

had $ in his pocket and they didn't even check him for it. always heard crazy stories about the late 80's early 90's

anyone old enough here to remember the Lo lives? or those crews that were heavy on robbin for Polo and all that?

All of NYC is completely different.

Still bugs me out how much the city has changed since the late 90's.

^^This...

i tell people stories all the time about things and their in shock...

like im making it up...

the Mid 90's was the worse for real... bloods were being formed, dudes that were getting busy in the 80's were raising us and making us their soilders..

alot of foolishness but it made us tuffer, tho..

and the Lo Life HISTORY was there and always respected but it was a new day and era for street cats...

it was rare you found cats really repping that Polo flag... they were there but Biggie had cats dressing flashy...

Born in 79 and lived in East NY/Brownsville 90% of my life so ive seen it all from stick ups, strong arms, to sucker punches.

I really didnt know how bad it was until i used to meet chicks and theyd get aggy when i tell em where i was from, oh nah i got robbed over there yall grimey is what theyd say

Seen a dude get knocked out cold while waiting on line at the 24 hour store for his leather and big herringbone, when he got to the window to order someone from the crowd just blindsided him with a hook from around the corner. Dude was convulsing and all that while his jacket and chain were carefully removed.

Seen a couple dudes who came to see females get caught in the lobby and never made it upstairs without gettin jacked...dudes were quick to jump on people that werent from the hood so if you invited company over your best bet was to meet them downstairs.

Times have seriously changed though, especially when they started giving mandatory jail time for loaded guns.

'93 I got robbed for my 5.0 Mustang at Burger King, Some fool crept up on me at the drive thru and held a gun to my head and took my jewelry and asked if I was a baller or something, I said no and he proceeded to make me order him a double cheese burger, no pickles.  I escaped with my life thank gawd.

From that day on I stayed strapped.

eek.gif I remember reading about those Lo Life kids years ago.

Anyway... i'm not from NY but i'm posting in here anyway. Thankfully I never got ran up on,but in the past I have had cats say **** to me that made me think they MIGHT be scheming. Nothing ever materialized though. In DC during that time it was an absolute BLESSING to have that sort of encounter and be able to WALK away from it. If you grew up here during that time you already know how crazy **** could get. Way too many lives were lost over ******g sneakers and coats. Kids here (and in NY) really don't understand how sweet it is for them now.

Me and a friend walked into the wrong neighborhood (Bronx, behind the BX zoo) one day, about 6 dudes approached us, they wanted my boys 700 North face (blue/black) and his Cuban, I took a hit on the closest dude to me and took off, my dude ran the other way, one of the dudes that chased me got a hold of my North Face book bag and snatched it, but I was able to get away untouched, when I linked up with my boy he got "got" for his jacket and chain, the mid 90's were NOT pretty in the BX...**** was straight disgusting, today's youth is soft as hell roll.gif

Giuliani went hard on the drugs. Like Ghostface said on the "Words of Pretty Toney" skit on MTV2, all these rappers who rap about moving weight need to stop lying because Giuliani deaded that during his term.

Getting robbed for your Polo was a Brooklyn thing for the most part. If you never got tested for your Lo, you were that dude for real because cats was stealing Lo from whoever they thought didn't deserve it. In addition to the Polo, people were getting robbed for their Avirex's which had some ill designs back then, their North Face bubbles and OG Steep Techs. I wasn't old enough to remember this, but my dad has some good stories about NYC when it was really NYC, not this watered down version.

Remember my dad telling me this about ENY as well. As soon as people who weren't from that projects entered, it was all attention on them. People were claiming what was theirs before you even stepped in the building. Meeting up with girls who were from there was not advised and still isn't.

Kids from this generation would be food during the 90s with all of the stuff they have now and how flashy they are. With that said, I was born in 88 and I'm glad I didn't have to grow up as a teen during that era.
