Jason Petrie's repackaging of classics

D.Rose, that you brah?
I don't really like Chang's designs, but to each his own. And I agree, compared to the best in the game, Jason can't compete. But his Lebron have been decent.

I guess you don't like anything that doesn't remind you of classic Nike hoop shoes. At least Leo's designs are original. But the zoom BB is a classic in its own way. The best basketball player in the world shold have more than a "decent" guy design his footwear. Jason Petrie should design things like the 1/2 cents or those Pippen fusions, things of that nature. Not $180 shoes for the MVP.

We all know the LeBron has inspirations of other shoes. Why does this seem like a surprise to most of you?

OP, you're reaching with some of those comparisons.
You are right to a certain extent about current Nike Basketball models being highly derivative of prior ones but there may be other factors imposed on the designers. These could include cost saving measures by running the same materials across the board (Flywire, Hyperfuse) and the same tooling so that the Chinese factories don't have to set up production/assembly lines for each sneaker model.

Reaching heavy with the 9s and Penny Line.

both of them are winning. plus theres nothing wrong with looking at classics as inspiration but i dont really think he is and up until recently retros were top sellers as opposed to newer models

ALL Shoes have some inspiration from older Models...look at Jordans, nearly every shoe has some connection with the prior year's release

Jason has able to transform older models, fuse newer technology and given us a more "modern" look

Ive had no issue with any lebrons except the 5s

Wow that's a lot of research. But designs are always an adaptation of something, there is no real "original" design. Most Jordan shoes have design elements of cars, does it mean that those are not original designs of Thinker? Kobe line have great resemblance to the Hyperdunk knowing that he was the first player to promote the HD.

Brah no one hypes up Petrie. We just think he is a decent designer. Granted he has designed some straight up garbage, and I do think it is time to give the Lebron line to a new designer, but he is still decent

Yes you all do. Go into any LeBron thread and you'll see how he's a genius and can't do any wrong to he has another classic. Even when he took a shot at Rose, you had people cosigning him. He's reached god status in this part of the forum and unless you can put up with the stans, its not worth saying anything negative.

This thread was bound to fail OP. Its a lot of this around here:

I don't see it.

As an aside, I'm waiting on Petrie to drop the Jump system on us. It's 2012, after all.

[QUOTE name="ALPHAPROJECT" url="t/14039/alphaprojects-artwork-ideas-from-the-past-for-the-future#post_1003008"]The year is 2012. The decline in the popularity of traditional sports has led to a lack of
physical fitness world-wide. Humans seem more concerned with day to day survival than
watching greedy athletes play, and with many recreational courts now charging high fees
to use their facilities, most have retreated to their homes and the on-line mental fitness
craze. Having predicted this decline in 2005, Nike began work on the Apollo project, as a
way to both bring people back to the world of physical fitness, and to prepare them for
their imminent departure to one of the new earth colonies on the moon. The Apollo
project led to the development of the Nike JUMP system, now set to launch. Through the
develomment of the volitile s-k-Y molecule, Dupont has created Springon, a reactive
membrane that reacts exponentially to an applied force. Nike has integrated this
incredible new compound with an in-house developed composite "leaf spring" and applied
it to a new breed of footwear designed around the concept of zero-gravity hopping. JUMP
uses the weight of the wearer to ignite the Springon compound, and funnels the force
from the impact area to toe off area via the complex leaf spring set up. Thus, the athlete is
able to hop, or bounce to heights of up to 8 feet, creating not only a new and exciting mode
of transportation, but also a free and fun way to exercise. The Nike JUMP Trainer features
heel and toe Springon, dual tranfer coils, integrated memory foam in crucial areas, and an
asymmetrical foot support structure anchored to the footbed and inspired by the shape of
the s-k-Y molecule. Cushioning is provided by wafer-thin slimAIR under and around the
foot. Fit is provided by a variable tension piping embedded in the medial support structure,
adjustable by a turn of the disk in the tongue area. Easy to use and fun as hell, JUMP spawns
a new era in sports and the world as we know it, revitalizing the human race...

OP you're trying way too hard
every one of your comparisons were a failure.

Petrie should stay as Lebrons designer, but they should limit some of Lebrons "power" and deciding which colors are released and which are for his friends and family.

You want to talk about a new designer? Get Melo a new designer. Great player, but his shoes have sucked since day 1.

Not really, but I am certain that his rectum is still pretty much stretched out of shape from all the bad publicity he has received.
Hasn't been around tweeting and pouting lately, now has he?

I dont know if this falls on petrie or Lebron and his entrourage. TInker once stated that he didnt like working with bron bron because him and his friends wanted to put all this stuff in the shoe and they could never work anything out. They probably all wanted to use parts of classic shoes and mesh them together which seems like Lebrons have always been.
PS. I have no respect for petrie after the rose comments...Hows petrie gonna feel when bron bron tears his acl and has no more shoes to design and is out of a job?

Not to sound like AKALONGSTROKEJACKJOHNSONCOACHHUBIE but after Petries' twitter comments towards Rose I was very down on Nike as a whole and actually wore Adidas for a few weeks out of anger. In fact, I was quick to reply to his Twitter message and had my twitter reply quoted on MSN.com in their story. What really bugged me was the smugness of a shoe designer to not only make light of a horrible situation but to think he was in a place to comment on that as if he's played the game on the court alongside Rose. Good story of him living the dream but he just draws shoes and doesnt make his living running & jumping for 2 hours a night in shoes. Basically to paraphrase the Rock, he should know his role and shut his mouth.

Also his Lebron designs make for heavy bricks. Its the shoe of the best player on Earth but no for everyone. People buy the shoe for Lebron & its fancy limited colorways and NOT the designer

How does this differ for any other performance sneaker that has ever been produced? Endorsements have always sold shoes.

Petrie had nothing to do with the 6's (Although I do agree that it's a shame that a Bron sig was wasted on a AF1 Rehash, especially when the prototypes that leaked, the Lebron Zoom Power 6 or something like that were so dope), and you reaching heavy on the Barkley/LBJ8 Comparison

The 9's and 10's can be argued but hell, the shoes are dope at the end of the day and you don't know what Bron requests as far as what he wants his shoes to look like. Like someone mentioned he wanted the VII's to be similar to the XI's. How is that Petrie's fault?

Still cant believe they didnt go with the original design of the 6 being the zoom power :smh:
