INDIE Music Thread

Japandroids - Celebration Rock

700

Ive heard great things about this album been meaning to check it out.

I enjoyed Chromatics - Kill for Love
I really like the new Silversun Pickups - Neck of the Woods (not sure if indie enough lol)

Wasn't really feeling Noctourniquet by The Mars Volta, was a little too experimental for me just a lot of brash noises. But wasn't bad overall
Did not like The Gaslight Anthem's new album, sounds like Bruce Springsteen (both from Jersey), and i hate Springsteen.

I thought the Best Coast album was pretty solid

As someone else said, I don't even know what's considered indie anymore.  To me, it was always a more lo-fi rock music, not heavily produced...obviously on independent labels but now it seems like just about anything that isn't major label, pop or jock rock is labeled as indie.  All kinds of electronic stuff that I wouldn't even think of as rock in the slightest, stuff more heavily influenced by other genres.

Lana Del Rey is so far from indie in my mind.  That chick was created by music execs and is playing towards a certain culture.  I can't stand her. </rant>

I'll try to contribute though, this is much more up my alley than 97% of the stuff posted in the music forum, I barely even check in here.

If I had to define what "indie music" encompassed... it just seems to be music that is less well known. Stuff that's described as "indie" tend to be a bit more obscure than what you'd find on the radio.

I don't really even like the term "indie music" because, like the word "hipster", it's become this word that doesn't really mean anything. Let's just stick with pop, rock, punk, electronic, house, etc. Those are more descriptive and helpful than "indie."

We kind of already have this in the 'Official Rock Music' thread. But more is always good.
Great music in the thread. (although it is prettz hard to define indie)

I would suggest

Chromatics- Kill for love

Anything from Johnny Jewel (Chromatics) is :pimp: Other than Kill For Love, check out
Chromatics - Night Drive
Desire - 2
Glass Candy - Beatbox

This is my second time listening through their album. It's damn good.

Local Natives - Wide Eyes

Song is old but I really liked it. Album was ok but this song was fire....

That Blood Orange track is nice. I'm going to check out the album.
This is my favorite Local Natives track. I used to play the hell out of them a few summers ago. I really liked Camera Talk too
