great indie albums i've listened to this week..

(higly reccomend it)

(foreign body-mirroring)

i enjoy being able to listen to entire albums and i was able to do that with all of these without skipping a single song.

Can't recommend these enough. I've been one of the biggest fans of Julia Holter and Liz Harris (Grouper) on this board, and I think they are two of the most brilliant minds making music at the moment. Ekstasis is a great album, but Tragedy really is a masterpiece. It's not a necessity to have read Euripides, but if you have it just makes the experience richer, and listening to the record as a whole is such a transformative experience, and it's definitely one of those records in which you become fully entrenched.

In the "Favorite albums of the year" thread I talked about the Mirroring record because I think it is one of the most slept on of the year. I just think it's amazing the way that Liz Harris has continued to make ambient (for lack of a better term) music in multiple different ways, and this record feels like an extension of the A I A series. I prefer those slightly over this, but it could just be up to personal preference.

As for new stuff, Jenn Pelly gave it a good writeup today, so I feel vindicated, and man that new Swearin' record really rips and I can't recommend it enough. Those Crutchfields really are a talented crew because Allison is killing with Swearin' right now and Katie's Waxahatchee project is one of the most slept on records recently in my mind.

i love this thread, props to OP for making it..

alabama shakes is that deal.. kinda similar to black keys but with a female on the mic.

Do you guys know of any good blogs that focus on indie music?

They're from right down the road from me too :pimp:. Sucks I missed them last time they were in town, ever since they got really popular tickets to their shows have skyrocketed.
Always great to see people from Bama getting popular though.

Our country may be effed about a lot of things but at least with have freedom which can't be said for a lot of other countries...

Death grips is signed to Epic though.....

Also, a vast majority of music labeled "indie" now a days is just....dere I say? Bland? Uninteresting? Pretty boring estate to be in at the moment, but the are a few that stand out from the bunch. Not as many considering how many people are making music now a days.

This is true. It's becoming oversaturated with how easy it is to make a blog and put your music on it, or spam sites with trash. Like you said, everyone is an artist.

Better to have too much than too little, though.. imo.
