Sonic Youth - Antenna

Another all time great indie band...

latest Girls album is also worth a mention.

I suppose Black Keys counts as mainstream now? with rising popularity?

It's a little hard to see on the cover, so in case anyone is wondering, the album is "Gemini" by Wild Nothing. I really love this album, but I think I like his newer one more.

i think due to the nature of this board (HEAVILY focused on rap and R&B), this thread can and should include a pretty broad variety of "indie" music (including major label bands).

that way we have greater participation and fewer fractured threads.

kinda like the "what rock music are you listening to" thread back in the day...

agree / disagree?

Tame Imapla - Elephant

Speaking of Tame Impala, their new single is nice....

Yo TimCity2000, can you further explain what your aim is for this thread? Are you saying let's post a wide range of music (indie), not just rock?

i just meant that on the first page there seemed to be confusion about what could and should be posted in here. obviously the OP should have the final say... but i felt like we shouldn't put a strict definition on "indie" for the purposes of this thread... that way it might have more participation and spark more discussion.

i think the bands/songs being posted so far are a great start!

Completely agree. There shouldn't be a strict definition on 'Indie' at all. With 'Indie' I meant genres that are Indie or are close to it (i.e. Alternative, Dream Pop, Synthpop, Folk, etc.).

All of the stuff that has been posted so far is pimp.gif

Warpaint <3

They put on a solid show, too, if anyone has a chance to catch them.

Also in that dark dreampop/psych genre, Blouse. One of my favorite local bands,

Blood, Sweat & Roses.

That whole album is great to me, I've been waiting for them to release something new.  I've seen them twice and they were so solid, great show on Halloween a couple years ago where the came out for the encore in costumes.

Checking this album out right now, she has such a nice voice.

Unfortunately I don't think they've done anything after volume 2....well besides the Christmas album.

I've been listening through that Blood Orange album as well. Really really like it.

Hard for me to see Bloc Party and Crystal Castles as indie laugh.gif They sell out stadiums and headline festivals. We might as well throw Red Hot Chili Peppers and Radiohead in the indie umbrella too then. I get the enthusiasm but damn, let's have some kind of standard before this thread turns into another "anything but rap" thread.

Well the basis of indie is "On an independent label" so it's all right. Unless you make it "Not popular rock" thread

You're right. I guess everyone will have a different perspective as to what "indie" actually is. Some will agree, others won't.

Back to the music.

Something not rock. I posted some of this kids work in the electro thread a couple months before but it went unnoticed. I think his music slots in nicely with the Grimes/Elite Gymnastics/LOL Boys 90's revival aesthetic.

This should be a thread of bands/artists that are not signed to a major label. Hence the term indie. As much as I like the Chili Peppers or Radiohead, they aren't indie bands...That's my 2 cents...
