[:: KID CUDI Thread - Kanye/Cudi Album 6/8/18 ::]

Cudi is on his own trajectory now, for one reason or another he isn't going to have that team behind him (Plain Pat, Emile, Kanye, etc.) and he himself is not going to deliver anything close to MOTM. With that being said, the new song is TRASH. It is is what it is. I'll forever bump MOTM series but I won't be checking for any of his new stuff.

He's tweeted numerous times that he was working with Pat & Emile on MOTM3. Unfortunately he's just fixated on using this rock sound.

But I agree with you as far as his new music moving forward. I have zero desire to listen to it if it's rock influenced.

I was never a Cudi fan to begin with but I heard those 2 new tracks and was just in awe at how awful they were.
I can enjoy some Cudi songs and will probably check MOTM 1 & 2 after seeing all the comments but this new sound is just...
No.
Might just be the worst music I've heard all year.

I think that is the issue with Cudi.

If he was a random dude in the indie scene these songs would be "potential". All of his rock songs have the most basic cord progressions ever and lyrically wedding tux isn't bad. But he is a "popular rapper". So by that account this music is completely awful. But if he was an up and coming indie rocker these songs wouldn't be frowned on as harshly

Like a pitchfork review could read: Dark....Brooding....intimate. Scott Mescudi brings you into his world.

Us: Cudi on drugs....what is this trash? Where is MOTM3....bruh you made a kid named cudi

This is what happens when you hang out with the new Kanye too much....

nah

i dont think theres been much contact with the GOOD circle since they parted ways.

pretty sure there wouldve been plenty of collabs if they were still involved in similiar projects

wouldve been dope to see Cudi on the Travis album

Cudi x Kanye collabs were always so good. its like they need to go back and work together to regain that older sound.

well cudi just needs to rock with emile and plain pat

we'll just have to wait and see what MOTM3 is going to be ... |I
Hopefully we don't have to wait TOO long

YIKES!....Dude was way off...Cudi hasnt been around kanye since the departure...he just reunited with him at the 808 show in hollywood...

Point is...Cudi isnt going to change his music direction or revert back to it....hes moving forward with a new sound and music direction, ever since WZRD...He went on twitter to explain what his motive been since then....

you want the old sound...listen to his classics....because thats the reality of it

As for MOTM 3...we dont know what it sounds like or will be like simply like cudi stated...its just a title...

I think since he will reunite with Emile and Plain Pat...it could be good...Indicud is a good album imo and he solely produced it...im not abandoning the ship lol

It's not just about us being upset at him wanting a "new sound."

We're upset that his "new sound" is complete and utter trash juice.

If you gonna switch genres at least devote yourself to learning how to make music in that genre.

These fruit loops generic *** rock beats have no inspiration behind them. The lyrics? Sure.

The music? UNINSPIRED. GENERIC. PRESCHOOL TALENT PRODUCTION.

The intent is fine, the execution is just GOD AWFUL.

I'm not even joking when I say 90% of NT producers could of made 2 better songs with those lyrics than cudi just put out.

I cant really say anything about the production...if he did get help as in a producer in that indie/alternative rock genre im sure it would be cool. Like Emile for example..since he did work with Lana del rey and others...but he said hes doing it himself for this album...no electronic sounds or synths...by himself...yea lol

quick question: Did you like Indicud? or Satellite Flight?

It's always funny when people with no artistic talent call someone else's art uninspired. Can you call it trash? Yes. Uninspired? You sound like a pretentious prick

Its not uninspired, its lazy however. So many great rock musicians within Cudis style & may even like to work with him & instead he makes these lazy songs...

It's always funny when someone makes assumptions about people they don't know.

I have a BA in Art, so I feel that I have a strong enough background to give MY OWN PERSONAL OPINION about an art piece feeling uninspired.

And I specifically mentioned the music, not the lyrics. I know every line cudi sings or raps is inspired. That's what got me to be a fan.
But I'm sorry if I think these crappy "beats" are not inspiring. That makes me an a-hole huh?

I didn't know critiquing art, which is something everyone does, makes you a prick. Thanks for that label bro. I guess unless I'm Picasso I can't comment on one of my favorite musicians songs in a negative way.

It's uninspiring to ME.
It can be life changing to you or someone else in this world, that's awesome.

Art is subjective. I know that, do you?

Lmao what kind of logic is that? I gotta be an artist to have a valid opinion on what's trash or not [emoji]128514[/emoji][emoji]128514[/emoji][emoji]128514[/emoji]

Uninspiring and uninspired are two different terms. Words have meanings.

If you listen to an album and it doesn't move you the piece of art is uninspiring TO YOU.

If you listen to an album and call it uninspired you are being presumptuous assuming Cudi is lazy and just plucking at guitar cords just cause YOU think it sucks. So yes that is pretentious of you.

You don't have to be an artist to critique art. But when you place your pre judgements on an artist based off NOTHING but your enjoyment of the art you sound lame and sound like most art critiques who never did anything.

And this isn't just for Cudi. This goes for Kanye, Miley, to the painter in your apartment complex. I've already stated one of the songs Cudi released is trashed. I just don't have the bones in my body to say another man's art was uninspired. Maybe that's not what you meant to say so I'll reiterate my point. Words have meaning, use them wisely.

We all have opinions and we can all share them i appreciated both points.

But lets be real. Every Cudi song is at most like 3 chords on his guitar. I agree with License to Ball in the sense that its very very simplistic. Now if that is good or bad is personal taste. But its pretty objective that his chord progressions are elementary. Simple can be better a lot of times so the one thing i appreciate about wedding tux is that the simplicity of the chords lets the lyrics kinda shine (yes ironic lyrics are dark as hell ).

in case anyone missed it

Yeah I think "Wedding Tux" works, in part because it's simple.

When Cudi gets not-so-simple, the elements start to sound all over the place. And he sounds like an amateur at a lot of those elements. That's a bad mix.

As a fan, I don't even need Cudi to sound like the old Cudi... But I do want him to sound focused and polished in whatever he's trying to pull off. Not like he just found some preset sounds and left it at that.

As for "love," I think he said that was an older leftover when he dropped it. It's basically a sample of a Ratatat song, i.e. MOTM1 style.

I like Wedding Tux, but hate the other track that dropped, sounded like a WZRD throw away.

Don't mind cudi making his rock/Nirvana type music, when it's good it's good, but when it bad..welp..

Looking forward to the new album, and i'm happy he's taking time on MOTM 3 and he's linking back with the OG album fam.

I know he's a bit of a loner in the industry, but I know that when he locks in for MOTM 3, it's going to be everything the fans expected and more, I know he won't disappoint on that front.

I'm ready for speeding bullet as a complete project, like I said earlier, im just letting him cook. Dudes is in his thirties, has a daughter, has classic albums, been in movies and hot tv shows, knows several instruments etc...

He's a better artist than I, so im just going to see where he's going with this. If it sucks it sucks, but if there's some artistic integrity in there mixed with musical brilliance that's abstract then well see.

I've been living with MOTM I, MOTM II, and Indicud for the last few days and it's been so long that it feels like I'm listening to them for the first time again.

The greatness of the Man on the Moon albums doesn't even not to be spoken upon, but I walked away from Indicud with a far more positive opinion than I had of it when it first released. That's a very solid album in my opinion and I don't think I would've been mad if he had named it MOTM III given how well it fits in sonically.

All of that said, I haven't checked out these recent songs because I just want to absorb whatever comes next as a whole. I'm cautiously anticipant.
