Why isnt Fernando valenzuela in the Hall of Fame?

I know he doesnt have the most attractive #'s
But his impact towards the game at the time was just

Well then why the question?

You may be in luck as HOF voters have lowered the bar so low the last decade it's only going to get lower and pretty soon everyone will be in. :x

Was thinking of someone or something to compare him/his career too, but I came to a blank.

He was such a spark on that 1981 season, and a few seasons after off those fumes, but obviously by his numbers, was not hall of fame type.

One thing is probably for sure, I don't think anyone will ever wear the #34 on the Dodgers again, "unofficially".

For awhile they weren't letting anyone in,

MLB wants their enshrinement event to be like the NFL's, and the NFL bestows the honor to 7-9 people automatically.

I'm not a fan of stats as being the only barometer for inclusion to the HOF.

Fernando flaming out? Of course, Tommy ran Fernando and Orel to the ground, but if you asked both they would gladly do it again even though Fernando was bitter for a hot minute.

I don't know, everyone talks about Strasburg and possible HOF career but everytime his name comes up "160" comes with it, which is his innings limit.

Fernando had 96 complete games at the age of 26... NINETY SIX!

Fernando had 27 complete game shutouts at the age of 26... think about those numbers.

Yes I think he belongs in the HOF, but not only for his impact, but when it comes to the context careers. No one was babying Fernando.

Orel Hershiser getting robbed for the 1989 Cy Young has to be one of the biggest award robberies in the history of baseball. (Old baseball mentality got in the way of that one :smh:).

Let me pose a question, is Roy Halladay a HOF?

Iron Man, great post. Just to think, if Fernando would have pitched in today's game, dominance.

Halladay a HOF? 50/50

Stats shouldn't be the only barometer but you need to have a longer peak at or near the top than 5 years. Or those 5 years need to be insanely good. Hall of very good for sure.

The game is very different with taking care of pitchers and the stress on arms that I don't think you can bring up and compare him to Strasburg's situation.

Just for comparison, you bring up Halladay look at his peaks in his career at or near the top. He had four peak year alone from age 31-34 and that's not counting what he did 25-26 and 28-30 and he still probably needs a couple more years to be up there for the HOF.

Dude get real. His numbers aren't that great and if you want him to be in the HOF because of is race than that's bull.

Not yet but I'll tell you this I would rather him retire today and be in it for his impact than say Bert Blyleven or Bruce Sutter or Jim Bunning.

It's obviously all subjective, and there are certainly a ton of old timers that were voted in back in the day that make you scratch your head. But it goes back to the boring age-old saying to me....HOF should be for the best of the best. We've just always had a problem telling players they were very good. That is almost a slap in the face. So we adjust and let in players who are "close" to low end HOFers and thus the bar keeps getting lower.

Roy Halladay has had 5 7 WAR seasons, Fernando doesn't have 1, he pitched in a very pitching friendly era and was very good for a short period of time, but no he was never better than Roy who is on his to a HOF career.

Roy Halladay will be HOF and people will rejoice when it happens, it will be a joke if Fernando is let in by the veterans committee.

I don't even know why you guys are brining his name up iin the same breath as dude who was good for like 5 seasons.:smh:
