sup yall ... here's an official thread for for education after your Bachelor's degree.

its for anyone who has questions or answers, or can provide some stories on how it helped your career...

ask stuff about school, clothes to wear, commute, yambs jobs during school, entrance exams,...

me personally? got a BBA-Marketing, and start on my Masters iin Science Finance in September.

took my GMAT (it was :x )

i'm getting the MS so i can attain my MBA in the future... many schools wont let you get two MBAs, so i figured why not get the MS first... work a few years, stack bread, and shoot for a big name school...

working at AT&T part time, but its about 32 hours a week, at about 40K a year... i'm hoping i can find a BAWSE intern in the D since AT&T has its world headquarters here.

no schollys, no tuition reimbursement... i'm straight LOANED up the first two semesters... but i'm starting to fill out schollys NOW for next fall...

I'm tuned into this thread even though I just graduated and have no plans for grad school right now.

A ***** just trying to get EMPLOYED :smh:

I'm chillin tho :pimp:

I'm always happy to hear Nters pursuing higher education. I'll be receiving my 2nd master's, MBA, in a couple of months. I got my first master's, MS, back in Fall of 2009. I wrote a pretty detailed post about my experience a month or so ago that would probably be of some use in this thread. Note that a master's by itself is worthless. Experience is extremely imperative.

Here it is: http://niketalk.com/t/341945/my-advice-for-undergrads-new-grads-long-read

Graduated with a B.S. in Business Admin, concentration in Accounting and Auditing at UC Riverside.... I just got employed as a Billing Specialist for a financial services company so hopefully this job can leverage me to get a job in the Big 4 and get me into my top school picks. I just started studying for the GMATs, I'm aiming for at least a 550 and hope to get into USD/USC/UCSD/SDSU. My ideal plan is to get admitted and registered with classes by Spring 2013 or Fall 2013. How I'm paying--- straight loans and scholarships on top of my heaping $25+K debt from undergrad. #debt4lyfe

I start graduate school in 2 weeks myself. Going to Ithaca College to get my M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology.
Just ordered my thinkpad, got my studio apt. I'm ready.

Funny story .. I'm talking to my ex... she's 25, I'm 23 today (hbd to MYSELF :smokin ) and I'm telling her about the orientation and how career driven it is, and how there are so many major companies that come thru the university ..

An hour later "I hope we can have a baby one day"

trifling.

I still need a t.v. matter of fact I just got home like an hour ago and on my way home i'm thinking about my price range for a t.v. and I get to the front of my house and theirs a 40" samsung box in front of my house....I go check it out and their's a damn flat screen t.v. inside with the top of the box open....i'm like wtf is this a gift from god?

I pull it into my house take the t.v. out and it's a 32" vizio with no power cords or cables....i'm like "wtf god"

Sup NT,

I'm in a bit of a situation and I need a bit of insight.

Currently I am going into my senior year at SJSU for psych. My community college was crap, but my year at SJSU i've managed at least a 3.5, so now my cumulative GPA is around a 3.0 maybe 3.1. I am scheduled to take the GRE's the end of sept but I honestly don't think I am ready for it. So now if I wait to push back my GRE's I wont make it in time to apply for grad school for the fall semester of grad school.

My question is, would it hurt to just take the GRE's once and see what I score. Apply to schools and hope that I am able to get into one hopefully. Then if not, taking them again in a year.

or

Wait it out another year and take the GREs when I am ready, hoping that my score will be higher to make up for my GPA, that way I could possibly do some volunteering and things of that nature. The downfall of this is that I have loans that I wouldn't get differed since I wouldn't be going to school. Also, I am scared of taking a year off of school and becoming lazy.

Also, I do have the option of applying to schools such as Alliant or Agrosy which are private schools that offer psych grad programs that do not require the GRE and I could possibly start off there right after I am done with my undergrad.

Thoughts?

don't take this to the bank, but I think I'm right.. I took the GMAT though

Some schools take the average of the scores, but when I wax applying for schools, NO ONE took averages... they just took the highest score you made... I have yet to come across a school that takes your average scores from all the tests you've taken, but they say they're out there.

As far as school, isn't it kinda late to be applying for the fall 12 semester? If its not, then take them tests, famb. My situation was similar. I took my gmat at the end of may, and the school deadline was June 15... the official scores weren't going to be in till afterwards. I just took them the unofficial scores, along with the paper that said the official scores were on the way.

It can't hurt to try...

As far as GPA, mine was worse than yours, famb... I did so so on the gmat, but have a good resume, great application essay, and some great recommendations from professors and a social worker. Also, I knew how to talk to the people when I went in for interviews, if you have them.

Taking a year off can help or hurt, but if you already think you can get into school, then do it. My professor told me to get as much as I can out of the way as fast as I can b/c life throws curve balls and you don't know where you'll be next year.

You might run in some yambs, pop a baby, and have to delay it... if you can get in,your loans will stay deferred too? I say go for it now, brudda.

Like wj4 says... once the real world comes, its here... no turning back.

Also, you might do better than expected ... for schools the average score on the entrance exama does not mean. You HAVE to get that score... it means that the AVERAGE ... you can score a little bit lower and still get in...

Also, to defer the loans if you don't, just take one course of something you made a C in and pay outta pocket for it...

Have you paid your loans down? I heard that is like mushrooms to Mario for your credit score when you pay them... have you with an 820. Lol.

I've got about 10K left, I was pretty good with my money in college and didn't graduate with some insane amount of debt over my head. Getting certain grants and free money for good grades helped out and I won't go back to school with loans ever again.

Free education is the only education from here on out.

don't know about specifically California, but many schools MBA programs are 3-5 years work exp ... this can vary if you have stellar grades or test scores.

Masters in science programs differ in that aspect because they really don't look at work exp to get in...

For great students from great schools, they have some 2x2 programs... where you work for two years right out of undergraduate, then go back for your masters... this is like getting a athletic scholly to Kentucky or Duke, though... very prestigious.

How much is your InternshipProgram paying? I'm looking for one for the spring and summer, only if they're paying some paper...

Luckily for me I was able to get a decent job shortly after I graduated and my loan payments were about $200 a month and they have now been knocked down to $175....even though I usually paid double or triple each month just to get them down.

I don't like have any debt or owed money hanging over my head and I don't like people making money off my money. They reduced my monthly payment in hopes of me extending the term of the loan and making more interest off me.

That's whats up man, glad you liked the spot. Maybe next time you guys can check out some of the bars in G-Town and that part of DC.

Graduated from Univ. Of Toledo with a B.B.A. concentration in Computer Information Systems. Going to Cleveland State University for my M.B.A. in Computer Information Systems. I got credited for about 24 hours for undergrad course work, so what was 67 hours needed for my M.B.A. is now only 43, so I'm pretty excited about that. I work full time so I'm only going to school part time taking about 6-9 hrs a semester, I'm a software engineer( I got lucky and got a engineering job with a business degree) so I'm racking in around 70k a year. My job is giving me full tuition reimbursement so grad school is free to me. I'm 24 and my undergrad loans are lets just say ill be paying till I'm 35

so tuition reimbursement was a blessing. Looking forward to walking across that grad school stage in 2014.

Oh Yea I took the Gmat and scored horrible, but i did not study at all i just signed up and went in and took the test, for some reason i thought it would be like the SAT/ACT. Needless to say my scores were not impressive but my undergrad gpa was high enough to where i still got into grad school.

Yeah man, we went out to Adams Morgan area on Saturday night but we kicked it in Gtown Friday night and Saturday during the day. She had an interview at the North Force in Gtown for a visual marketing position. I guess that's like making the store look aesthetically pleasing or arranged in a way to make people buy more stuff? I dunno exactly  But the interview went well for her. She's looking into some other jobs as well but informed me two days ago that she'd be moving down here by November with 2 of her friends.
I'm loving the move I made from upstate NY to the DMV. Moving to Wheaton to live with 2 roommates on the 31st and can't wait. No more MARC train! :pimp:

Which part of NY did you move from? My mother moved to VA from NY when I was about six years old I think. Still have some family up in Haverstraw, Sleepy Hollow and Suffern. The DMV is where all the jobs and money is, but the traffic is OD for me and once a decent job opportunity opens up.....Arizona or out West is where I'll bounce to.

More like government paying jobs, and Maryland more so than Virginia.

Not quite.....VA has a lot of military bases and industry jobs as well. The Pentagon and Crystal City, Arlington, Ft. Belvoir and Quantico to name a few are filled with Government jobs and contractor/industry jobs that pay well.

Upstate NY. Binghamton to be exact. I love it down here except the weather. Too damn hot for me. Haven't experienced fall/winter down here yet though, only summers so far.

Fall is the best season by far in this area.....weather is on point in October/November once the humidity bounces and the heat dies down. This has been a really hot summer, since we had a warm winter, but expect some snow this year.

There is always something to do or somewhere to check out around here, I used to like showing friends/visitors of the area around when they came into town.

Average salary in DC in 44K average in VA is 41K. My best friend found a permanent job in Virginia, Navy job.
