First one is always the hardest since you tend to think you want something meaningful. Im not exactly 50/50 on that idea, more like 75/25, the majority being something meaningful, but if you've always loved tattoos and big into art, tattoos in general or whatever, getting something thats "art" to you is more than acceptable.

After the first one its like modding a car, once you start you cant stop.
 I don't want to OD either I just want a few. But how do you guys know where the best shops are and who are the best artists are? I live in the inner city and I'm avoiding these local tattoo shops like the plague, talkin' bout a $20 special. :x

I WANT TO GET A TYPOGRAPHIC TATTOO.

HOPEFULLY I CAN BOOK STEPHANIE TAMEZ BY THE SPRING.

I WANT SOMETHING LIKE THIS, POSSIBLY THE LOWER HALF OF THE QUOTE. WITH 3-4 ARROWS BENEATH AND MAYBE CREST ON TOP:

Gonna change the shape of the rose and color but this is the final product

I'd love to have yellow but since my skin is dark the color wouldn't blend well with my skin tone

^^^The bolder the better. Hate to say it but red would be the best. Purple is a no no and even blues don't show up as well as other colors. The green will pop though.

Nice design though but not too keen on the webbing but I am not huge into web tattoos.

I never really understood the whole "I want a tattoo but dont know what I want" thing. the way I see it is if you like something as some kind of art/portrait/painting/drawing that would make a great tattoo then you just need to figure out placement. most tattoos start from there. people now just want tattoos to say they have one. thats as bad as not shopping for the right artist and going to someone cheap

Eh still not a fan of that design. Change the script, too hard to read, coupled with the spider webs? Mightget away with the webs actually with a good traditional artist but this whole tattoo screams hood.

If thats what you like though.

And to duke that wants the typo tattoo, just go to an artist that does good lines. You font need to go to someone super special for that.

Count on your artist TOTALLY reworking that. Including that font. But I'm sure you already know that. You might also want to reconsider the placement to somewhere more visible. It's your 1st tattoo, don't hide it in the ditch. Congrats & enjoy...probably won't be your last.

Would it be frowned upon to ask for the same exact thing somone else has? I've had this picture of a tattoo for a couple years now and I still want it

I go through periods of like 1-2 months when I want a tattoo and another 2-3ish months when I don't feel like I want one that much.

Right now I'm in the period when I want one

I always found it tacky unless it is a very popular image

But if someone got a unique tat and you gank that ****, then it is terrible imo.

Depends on what the image is. If u want a logo or a certain font, I don't think it'll be an issue. Otherwise, I don't think any self-respecting artist will do an exact duplicate.

Any recommendations for artists that do good lines in the Bay Area? Mr Fongstarr recommended someone a few months back but the artist stopped responding to my emails.

Finally had my first session for my 3/4 sleeve with Melo after 4 months of waiting.

Sat for about 2hrs to get started on some outline and shading.  Only worked on the forearm and a little of the elbow and bicep area.

Old ink will be covered up..  sorry for the ****** pics but the lotus flower and koi look to be coming out nicely.  Cant wait to continue this...

Elbow area

Koi in the ditch

Top of the forearm

Outer forearm

What are you getting done? Lettering?

And just to note, if you can....always go and see your tattoo artist. I find that emails never gets the job done and they'll more than like work with someone more so in person then from an email.
