For those of you who still live at home. How do you convince parents that tattoos aren't bad? My mom thinks that tattoos are only for delinquents. :rolleyes

Just walk in with the tat.. You are not gonna convince some people and that's just that.

You can always wait till you move out. I got my first tat at 28. I actually preferred to get it later. Most guys I know that got tatted back in high school or college all did cover ups or they look horrible.

If they ain't on NT, pretty sure they ain't gonna find it!

I'm just afraid it'll go viral and when the internet detectives try to find the source it'll lead to this thread. I've broken the first rule of nt . I told a close friend of mine about nt , this friend is close friends with the dude who got the ****** tattoo.

lol. I got caught surfing NT once and straightup told my friend I was watching porno. Aint no way I'm tellin anybody I am a part of this "community"

if any of you guys are in the bay area and looking for traditional american/sailor jerry tattoos, Henry Lewis at Skull and Sword in SF is pretty damn spectacular

haven't gotten anything done by him (as an asian american, can't say that i'd put a "traditional" american tattoo on myself) but a chick i dated in the past used to go to him exclusively. have to say, i appreciated looking at his artwork more than i appreciated looking at the person they were on.

I'm Filipino man.. sooo, I kinda feel you on not putting traditional American on me.. but I've got a bunch of Filipino ink on me and I sure as hell am more American, in a lot of ways. Figured I'd give the ol' Murica a shout out in the piece for my wife.

I've gotten traditional work done by a Filipino tattoo artist and that's really all he does. It doesn't matter.

I think Moe was more concerned about the actual tattoo, not who was tattin' it. Either way though, it may matter to the individual who is getting inked up (whether we think that's right or wrong is another subject). I understand that there are some people who prefer to only have tattoos on themselves that are from their ethnic history.

Heck - my traditional Filipino work was created by a Filipino, outlined by a Hawaiian, and finished by a Black dude.

spot on in regards to how i feel about tattoos. tattoos are obviously a matter of personal preference. i appreciate the style and designs of traditional american work, but it's not something i can connect with in terms of what it represents, therefore don't feel like i could put it on myself. again, i speak for myself and don't mean to sound as if I'm judging anyone's choices.

not everyone has to feel a "connection" to what they put on themselves, completely respect that. hell, i asked my last artist what a landscape tattoo he had meant to him and he just said "honestly, i just thought it was cool, but it doesn't mean **** to me"

How difficult would this be to get on my upper arm? I have no tattoos and would want to get it done by a very good artist.

Upper arm wont have the same effect since it woudnt be wide enough. Some pictures dont translate well into tattoos, thats IMO is one of them. It will be a bunch of silhouettes that wont have a strong image.

Thanks for the reply. What about only the silhouette of the man and the birds with the birds sort of wrapping around my arm?

My artist moved to Buffalo while my foot was broke. :smh:

Hes gonna come back to NYC every now and then so ill just have to wait til then. No rush though.
