Wanted to see if anyone can shed some light on thigh tattoos. Just the whole pain factor and where it specifically hurts. I don't think my potential piece is going to the knee, so this is a strict thigh piece that should cover most of area.

Honkey Konger just posted up some project where he is doing thigh pieces for $600. I love his illustrations even though it might not be for everyone. He just posted this up as example as one. Love it!

Dope as hell. Assuming hes in SF? Thigh should be an overall easy spot unless you get to the back or anywhere near the knee.

Then again, I have no thigh tattoos. :lol:

I think I've mentioned this before, but I find my thighs to have been one of my least sensitive areas when it comes to tattooing, just because of the higher amount of flesh and fat present there (compared to, say, your front shin which is pretty much skin on top of bone).

If you're staying clear of the knee I don't think you should encounter much discomfort, as you tend to feel it more the closer they get to the hinge / kneecap. Depending on how far up you go anything approaching the inner crotch can be tender, too. I find the outer thigh to be less difficult than the inner thigh, but that could just be me.

(For reference both of my thighs have work on them: the right thigh is lined all the way around but hasn't been completely colored in yet, while the left thigh has work on the front and the back... I hope to get fillers for the sides in the coming year.)
 
He's always posting the sickest tattoos on DA gram. I'd just get the tattoo. That looks like 4 hours at most and you'll never have to go through it again no matter how bad it hurts... :smile:

From my experience the thigh was just as painful as the inner bicep. Pain was bearable as usual but it was physically draining compared to the outside of the arm.
 
Well...my inner bicep did not hurt much at all (srs). Maybe it was just me? I have both inner biceps done and I dont even think I held my breath for any lines :lol:

My triceps hurt like **** though surprisingly, where as the general consensus is that the bicep is 10x more painful than the triceps.

My triceps never really hurt except when he got on the elbow itself. I'm tossing around the idea of getting ink on my inner biceps though. I'm not sure.

just wanted to ask you guys about font artists in NYC.

im looking to get a word in the NY TIMES font (the header)

so technically the font was created solely for newspaper, but there are a couple fonts floating around that it derived from or that other artists have taken the liberty of completeing the alphabet.

im looking to get 8 letters going vertically from knee to ankle, maybe 1.5x1.5 inches each letter. should i go into this paying letter by letter or just treat it as a whole piece? not sure what to price it at.

the font is pretty detailed, im thinking maybe 40 dollars per letter, so about 320+ for the whole word. yall think thats too much to pay?

First tattoo? Thats bad placement IMO if youre describing the word going up and down from your knee to your ankle. Especislly if you arent heavily tatted, its going to look weird. You could maybe get away with it if your leg is tatted up heavy already.

definitely agree with what picasso said about the vertical placement. with how skilled people are nowadays, i'd get someone to photoshop the proposed tattoo onto that knee to ankle area and see if it's something you'd like
 
That is still pretty fast. I sat for 6 hours once and didn't even get close to that. Crazy how some artists are just so swift with things. Looks nice though. I'd say do color but from the looks of it, I guess you are sticking to black and white?
 
Appreciate it fongstarr. Only color may come from a few small flowers I'm going to throw on, other than that I'm sticking black and white.

Side note;

As the artist was free handing on me I felt a sudden rush (I've never fainted before but I imagine this is what happens right before you faint) and had to sit down. My artist said it's happened before but I felt like a big ***** :lol:. He gave me an energy drink and some food and I was good for the next 5 hours.

Anyone else have this happen ?

Looks good, I believe that it only took 5.5 hours, especially since the inner is done. My artist was very fast as well. My Japanese sleeve which ive posted a couple times took 16 hours only (chest panel down to wrist for those who havent seen it).
