***Official Tattoo Thread: Inked-4-Life Vol.2***

^ Your type isn't helpful. Say very little from the jump, then come out like "I told you so."

No, you didn't.

When I posted the linework, you posted something like "Not sure if serious" after my post, and didn't even quote me or anything that would let me know you were talking about my pics. When I quoted you and asked if you were replying to me, you never responded.

Trying to come through NOW like "Yeah, what they're saying is what I was saying, but you didn't listen."

Again: no. Man up and be clear from the jump before trying to claim the "You didn't listen" card.

Local dude at a local shop. Chris, at Bomber Crew in Carbondale, IL.

Honestly, his other work looked better than this to me. And his drawing looked super on point. :/

i think the main problem is placement, it doestn help that the state of california is shaped like a boomerang and the bicep area goes against that

Don't get upset with me man, you live and you learn.

Next time run your idea past some enthusiasts, I've learned a lot and gained perspective from the great folks in this thread.

Doing your homework is vital man.

I always try and expose people to the work of high level tattoo artists when they tell me they want to get something done.

Hate seeing people get jipped with sketchy work.

Got my appointment with Eric Marcinizyn tomorrow.

These artist will sketh something first and THEN start the hours I paid for, or is that included in the hours I paid for?

Also, what's a good tip to leave someone after 4 hours?

Pretend you're new to an area, and it's not a metropolitan area (like Chicago or NYC or LA), and it's not a suburb of a metropolitan area.

It's the midwest. It's BFE.

What homework would you do to find the BEST local shop for a cover-up/touch-up?

Like I joked about earlier, word of mouth isn't going to cut it, because something that dominates the midwest is politics. People tell you to go places (then you find out that someone they know works there), or tell you to stay away from places (then you find out their ex works there).

Look at their portfolio? IG? FB? That's obviously all their best work. This dude Chris that did my arm, he's not putting this on his FB or IG or in his portfolio, I guarantee that. No future clients are going to be able to judge him off this, just like I wasn't able to judge him of his previous eff ups, which he no doubt has tons of.

Well said. I don't know much about tats, but this makes sense for pretty much anything. Cars, tats, restaurants, etc.

You have a consultation most probably, he gets your ideas, size of your arm/leg/whatever and then basically plans your tattoo. You probably wont get tattooed if you havent gotten a consult yet, especially a big piece. You leave a deposit that goes toward your last session, then your first actual ink session you pay then.

Thats how a lot of artists work, I dont know if Eric would consult then start right away.

Was the design playing to his strengths or was it out of his comfort zone? Have you got a link for dudes portfolio?

If you've sent him an idea, he will have it ready for you, and you'll get tattooed tomorrow. He might do a little bit of drawing directly on your skin, other than that, you're good to go.
