***Official Tattoo Thread: Inked-4-Life Vol.2***

just wondering, fellas, how have your tattoos held up over the years in regards to fading. I've had my sleeves for 4-5 years and do a lot of outdoor running. just concerned that I'm gonna regret running outside when I'm 35 with faded ink :frown:

i put on a fair amount of sunblock each time but don't know how effective it'll be long term

Thought about this too, know it will happen eventually but i just try to slow it down somewhat. The sunscreen definitely helps but if your really worried you could just wear a long sleeve compression shirt just when your running. Mine is on my leg so if im going to be outside for a long time like hiking or playing football I just wear compression pants.

It's inevitable. I mean that's like saying how can you prevent your skin from not wrinkling. Tattoos will eventually age no matter what. You can get the touch ups but also it depends on what your tattoo looks like. I find that touching up tattoos like Japanese or American style is easier just cause it's just hard outlines and color in the inside. Touching up black tattoos or shaded ones are tougher and almost better that you have your tattoo faded before getting it redone. My first tattoo is an all black tattoo and if it was ever redone, they could only darken it which would actually make it uglier.

I don't know man. Like I am a fan of black and white but just don't want it on me. I feel like it would totally just clash with what I have. Like my arm isn't the best but what makes it uniformed is I have only one sleeve on my whole entire body. If I got new ink, I'd have to get a jammer or start another sleeve and I really don't want to do either or and more so for money reasons. Plus I work a pretty corporate job and they know I have tattoos but think it's suitable cause I am asian and it's mostly asian stuff. They are that dumb that if I got some black and white that they;d think it's some LA gang stuff. You know how people get with tattoos. We'll see though. I am supposed to do a whole article on his shop soon for blog reasoning and even for some tattoo mags. I'd definitely have to get something then.

Wish your cousin was mine haha. I have seen some people that have both color and black and gray tattoos that actually looked nice. My sister has a color tattoo going from her back to her shoulder that ties into a black and gray piece on her arm which i think looks cool but I can see why you might want to stick to one.

Get it touched up by your artist... Or some other artist if they're willing to do so.

Its usually free of charge..

thanks for the suggestions, fellas.

I've thought about the potential of getting touch-ups in the future, but I just assumed that touch ups on big pieces would end up causing the original tattoos to look muddled or as if the ink was bleeding. glad i'm wrong.

@picasso swerve

You know any decent artist in Nyc that won't break my bank account? That specializes in black&grey

Vinny or Max from @redrockettattoo

Go on the IG and search for work done by them, they are tagged in the pics. I'd go with Max but Vinny for portraits. Max does great black and gray thats not on his IG.

its going to be at his house, he doesn't work at the shop anymore
he used to work at Forever Haunted

Had some chest work done via CL 10 yrs and the lettering starting smear. Never again.

Damn fong, your cousins is sick man I wish he was up here in nor cal. I really love that black and white gangster la style :smokin

Anybody know any artists up here that do that style? I did see that religious sleeve by lalo peña a few pages back which was dope, is he the only dude around here known for that style? I was considering taking a spot with him I'm sacramento this week but I feel like it's too rushed.

I had a really good experience with Henry Lewis for my first (condor) tattoo and will be getting some script woke from him eventually, but I contacted george campise for my second tat idea which will be a conquistador skull with a snake coming out of it.

Can anyone recommend some good artists in the bay area?

Anyone from state of grace in downtown japantown in SJ if you're looking for japanese style tattoos.

Humble beginnings if you're into tribal tattoos. ORLY is popular cause he tatted Kaepernick.

Analog is a nice spot. They got diverse artists there. My ex got tatted by one of the guys there. Matt shamah(sp?)

Looking to set aside some $$$ to get my other arm tatted.

You should put lotion on your tattoo to maintain it from what I hear. I wear long sleeves when I go to work to cover them so they rarely get sun unless I'm not working

I have a sleeve on my left arm and right arm, half sleeve. I start my chest piece this Saturday, Only doing the left side right now nothing in the middle. I have heard nothing but bad news on how the chest hurts. Anyone care to give me details on how chest feels getting tatted? I have a muscular chest and someone told me it will hurt even more because of that?

You just don't got enough "Zest" to take the pain :rolleyes

got my entire chest done. there were parts that hurt, but also times I literally laughed because it tickled. I lowkey felt kinda lame in a tattoo shop giggling like that, but enh

FWIW, the script I got on the back of my tricep area hurt worse than anything on my chest.

that could be due to the artist, but both of these artists were pretty heavy handed, so idk. That's the only insight i can provide that may be relative since I dont have other areas of my arm tattted to draw comparison

yea, for me it did. It felt like a hawk/falcon/eagle/etc was clawing into the back of my arm when I got it done. I was tripping. expectations were way off

maybe the chest pain just started to turn more into numbness or something since I got it done in two long sittings.

The pain around the nipple hurts like hell!

Question guys, when do you think it's okay i can go back to lifting since i got my chest piece tattoo barely this past Thursday?

Why wouldn't you be able to lift? I'm in training to be a pro wrestler I have practice on Monday nights and i'm getting this tattoo on Saturday, lol I already know im gonna feel the pain on Monday night

Reason i ask because today is chest day and i don't want too ruin anything or stretch my skin that would mess up my tattoo lol

I usually take 2-3 days off from the gym after a tattoo session. Just make sure the tattoo is clean after and wear loose clothes to prevent chafing

After 2-3 days youre good to go man. Its advised not to gym it after getting inked up for infection reasons, not cause the ink is gonna move around or smudge or whatever.

Both the back of my triceps are inked. It didn't hurt apart from the ink on my actual elbow. Chest killed me. When we took breaks, I'd literally shake.
