Diet Thread: What foods worked for you?

It's simple, if it's not natural don't eat eat. If a cave man couldn't eat it, you can't.
This. Went from 180 to 150 from February to June.

Also don't be afraid to go out and have a slice of pizza with your boys or something every once in a while. I found the more stressed I got about it the less successful I was.

^^^^ very important to mix things up. as soon as eating becomes a burden, its game over. i dont have cheat means but some people did it so they wont go crazy. also gradually go into diet. if you eat out everyday dont do a complete 180 and eat nothing but salads. taper off. im a personal trainer/dietitian fyi

Niketalk Fambs,
I got a confession/realization I gotta make.

I've gained 70 lbs now in one and a half years. I eat alot when I'm alone, I'll go and buy some Carls Jr, or go to ampm and cop an icee some chips. All this bad ish that's not good. When I'm with friends I eat but not that bad, just normal. I miss being a size 32-34 rocking medium/large shirts.

I wear xl/2xl now, 38/40. I'm 5'11, and weigh 250. :smh::x

I go to the gym for a week or so, then I jus stop.
I'm getting married next year and I wanna look good, but I feel that I cant work hard enough or something Idk.. :frown:

Back in highschool I used to weigh 230, but senior year I joined the bbal team and got down to 180, was at that weight for about a year and half, then Idk what happened.

Help me fambs...

do you like weight training?

you can just lift weights and eat at a caloric deficit and you'll start losing weight for sure

as for your eating habits: alot of it mental discipline, but you already know that.

id suggest researching Ketogenic Diet as well. Works for alot of people (I use a variation of it myself) and im hardly ever hungry, and im a pretty active individual.

Honestly I like weight lifting but I always feel that people are looking at me or laughing when I weight train. Just self conscious I guess.

The Keto diet is the no carb then carb binge diet right??

54 pounds down since February! Still looking to lose another 25-30 pounds and then add on another 10 of muscle. Feels good:smokin

I'm trying to get in shape for an upcoming basketball league I'm in. right now I'm 190 and I'm about 5'10

You want to get in shape for a basketball league, well what you need to do is quite simple.
Play A LOT of basketball, cut out all the bad you currently intake

Fried food/fast food
Sugar and sodium packed drinks and food

Eat only lean meets, I prefer fish, turkey and chicken, but you can buy lean ground beef.
Gym it up a couple times a week on top of hooping, do circuit training that will help with your explosiveness.

reading a lot of good things here. yes, simply put there is no one miracle food that will some how cause your body to change. it also takes a long time for change to occur. changes come from the inside out, meaning before you see the pounds come off, or muscle come on, the body will under go neurological, and chemical changes first. know your body and its needs. also know that the body can only digest 20-30 grams of protein at a time. dont let the gimmicks fool you, taking in 200% of anything then you should daily is wasting 100%. after you take in what you can you literally piss your money down the toilet.

as for putting on muscle, training ect...

there is no other way to jump higher than to keep jumping. lifting weights will only get you better at lifting weights. i always get a kick outta guys who do awkward looking bicep curls, or upside down crunches and think that it'll help them play a sport or fight, which is all the rage now :rolleyes

To piggyback off of what you are saying, proper form > _______

There are TOO many guys in the gym obsessed with lifting heavy but flat out CHEATING their reps. It's laughable to be honest.

Also, if you're new to the gym, don't be afraid to ask questions to people working out around you. I've been lifting weights (seriously) for the past 14 years and if there is something I don't know, I'll ask. I don't pretend to know it all, and I have no issue talking to people in the gym to pick their brains on tips, techniques, etc. At the end of the day, you want to be better than how you started.

Before I became a member of the Klump's, I used to eat chicken tenderloins and brown rice mostly, and brown rice with the Green Giant steamed veggies mixed in and a light sauce they come with or I'd make one.

Just watch your caloric intake and what your eating. Stay with a steady workout as well. I used to weight 250 pounds, down to 145 now. I used to eat fast food constantly, multiple sodas a day, no exercise, etc. Stay away from sodas, juice, candy, etc. All i drink is water and green tea, haven't had soda in months. Overall just terrible eating and lifestyle habits that led to all that weight i kept on. Decided to lose it all and it's the best thing i have ever done. I feel and look great and i know i'm extremely healthy now.

Reading this instantly reminded me of this group of guys at 24 Hour Fitness who used to load up an easy curl bar with about 200 pounds, get on the preacher curl, have a spotter sit there, and move the bar a few inches while practically screaming. Not even full range of motion, just a few inches.

So, Imma try this new diet I've been thinking up for a little bit. I'll call it the Neo-Paleo diet. Pretty common sense, but I think there is some good science behind it and it doesn't take much adjustment to our current diet.

We've evolved over thousands of years as basically hunters and gatherers. But have you tell it, our ancestors never gathered grains or sweets. I think this is false, especially since people for years have been living in places where grain grows naturally and coco bean grows naturally. So essentially I'm thinking of eating a diet high on meats and veggies, low, but not completely devoid of, grains and chocolate. Almost no processed foods, I say almost no, because in 2014 there is absolutely no way you cannot eat processed foods.

A glass of water everyday when I wake up

two meals a day, breakfast and dinner

So essentially meat or fish for every meal

a "green" veggie for every meal

a fruit for every meal

a lot of nuts throughout the day

one candy bar or piece of cake or processed sweet  a day (cravings ya kno)

no more than two pieces of toast a day max

then minimal cheese, butter and milk, some but minimal

A glass of red wine or a beer everyday

I'll be starting this on Sunday. I don't think it's revolutionary in its content, but in its simplicity. No counting calories, no counting fats, no anything, just a a simple, unprocessed diet and cut back on diary.

However, I'm  not fat nor am I out of shape, so results will be quantified in energy and overall how my body feels throughout the day... and how long I live.

I'll couple this with riding my bike at least three days a week and hitting the sauna at lest once a week.

I used to be really fat. Now im skinny fat.

Portion control, water instead of sugary drinks, no late night snacks, and metamucil.

I should hit the gym too but there is not enough hours in the day.

Im doing this intermittent fasting thing. I only eat dinner, fast till the next day, drink a green smoothie at lunch , rinse wash repeat ...

Any of the fitness guru's wanna tell me if I'm on the right path or I'm running in place ...

Whatever i want , just alot less of it. My biggest problem is i dont eat fruit or veggies, thats why i try to drink em during the day.

Very picky person ...
