2013 College Football Thread (Realer than Real Deal Holyfield -->S/O Craftsy)

Fresh off of recent visits to Vandy, Louisville, Kentucky and most recently Florida State, Josh Malone is very close to announcing his final five which are also the five schools he plans to visit officially before committing and enrolling early in January. It sounds as if that top 5 could come next week.
He's said publicly that Georgia will be on the list. The rest of the five is as yet unnamed.
One school that i do not expect to be on his list is Tennessee. Despite his Crystal Ball reading overwhelmingly in the favor of the Vols, I'm hearing that Tennessee is not going to get one of his five visits and is essentially out of the running.

Why not?

Vols yanked a lot of WR talent, especially w/ the Juco kids but losing Malone to a Sec east rival will be a dagger. Hope he goes to ND

Adoreé is supposed to be in Knoxville this weekend. That's huge. Its a.special weekend for the program and new commits. Supposed to announce 2 - 3 more verbals by Sunday. :nthat:

nooope
It's almost going to be impossible to get everyone on board, teams won't be able to have any likeness to real NCAA teams, it will be like Alabama, Tuscaloosa Roll Tide and Baton Rouge Roar, Palo Alto Tree, stuff like that.

WheyMint...Actually you aren't correct...the NCAA is merely a governing body, it isn't like how the NFL owns the likenesses and names of teams. Therefore there will still be a game coming out with the teams and the conferences, just no mention of the name National Collegiate Athletic Association.

I'm saying...

Anyway, hope Fox Sports 1, makes this happen to ESPN...

Casual fans will forever flock to ESPN, but the grumblings amongst hardcore fans makes it a perfect time to launch a network.

WheyMint...I've heard of beer snobs, wine snobs, heck even tech snobs, but you mean to tell me there are sports network snobs now too. Guess it sucks to be a casual fan that watches ESPN. By the way how much do you get paid as a premium fan and where can one sign up to be one?

What? Espn sucks when they're on that slurping ****..

I watch the pro league sports network over espn these days...only watch espn if an actual game is on

WheyMint...My point is who gives a **** what you decide to watch for sports or who you don't watch and to look down for what another person watches is stupid. Do you.

Newbs, who do you think will be returning punts? Obviously Norfleet will be the KR but do you think they might let him do PR as well? Gallon has become reliable back there but he doesn't seem to be the threat that Norfleet would be.

Those are the only 2 guys I am looking at for PR job... Gallon is as sure handed back there as I could hope for... Doesnt break many but hopefully the offense can take up for that... Would not mind seeing Fleet return some because his burst is pretty good...Jourdan Lewis and Terry Richardson are 2 others that have some wiggle but no clue how their hands are.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Lewis end up at receiver eventually. Returned might be the only spot Richardson is ever effective at because he's tiny.

I wonder if they would put Gallon and Norfleet out there at the same time. I think they did it against NW but that was more to do with the game situation.

Johnny "Money" Manziel Is The NCAA's Worst Nightmare

The NCAA can't control a player that doesn't need it.

Before we knew anything about Johnny Manziel, we called him “Johnny Football.” It made him sound like the “throwback” so many desperately wanted him to be. Now that we know better, the reigning Heisman Trophy should change his nickname to “Money.” Money Manziel.

He comes from money. When he sits in front of media, with his suits pristine and his words carefully chosen, he looks and sounds like money. With his travels, many of which have been documented on social media, he exudes money. Money, whether it be boosters or celebrities, wants to hang out with him. And for everyone associated with him -- from the school that doesn’t pay him, to its former assistants who found greener pastures because of his performance -- he is money. And unlike most of his peers in locker rooms across the country, he’s got access to enough money that everyone associated with college football -- Texas A&M, the SEC, and the networks that cover them both -- needs him more than they need him.

Money makes Manziel the NCAA’s worst nightmare. He’s got the cash to fund a rock star’s lifestyle, and the defiant attitude that often comes with access to such capital. He’s become a star bigger than any of the entities he represents. They can’t keep him broke, and that gives him what the NCAA has over nearly every other college athlete -- control.

And make no mistake -- he’s in charge. The droves of reporters who followed him at SEC Media Day spoke to that fact. That they had few questions for Manziel about his team, even though the Aggies will be probably be in the preseason Top 10, makes it loud and clear. That Kevin Sumlin, his head coach who had a pretty strong SEC debut himself, struggled to turn his Wednesday media session toward his team and away from his quarterback makes it indisputable. College football has become Johnny Manziel’s world.

Manziel is so popular on campus that it became impossible for him to attend class without attracting a crowd of hundreds. He, along with Sumlin, legitimized A&M’s much-ridiculed move to the SEC. He’s the guy whom recruits want to meet, and he’s the one who makes Alabama’s trip to College Station the most anticipated game of the upcoming college football season.

So who’s going to tell him to change his behavior when he knows what a fundraising boon he is to Texas A&M? What, if anything, could he do to make Sumlin -- in the face of pressure from boosters and fans who have waited their whole lives for a true superstar to wear maroon and white -- bench him? Sumlin saved Manziel’s place on the team after the quarterback’s 2012 arrest. If he tried to punish Manziel now, he’d be the one in need of protection.

And, perhaps most importantly, who’s going to get Manziel to change when he’s not doing anything wrong? There have certainly been mistakes, like his recurrent tardiness at the Manning Passing Academy and his 2012 arrest for giving police a fake ID. But think about it -- of all the complaints you’ve heard about Manziel, how many have centered around his trip to jail? More and more, it seems like his greatest sins are having more fun than people think a college athlete should have, showing more money than we’ve ever seen from an “amateur.”

There’s nothing touching or campy about him. There’s no conveniently delightful narrative to refer to. The only difference between him and professional athletes, both in terms of notoriety and lifestyle, is the fact he doesn’t get paid. Lucky for him, his family’s oil money spends the same as the cash he should -- but doesn’t -- receive for his service to Texas A&M.

He’s 20 years old, and he demands the right to live the imperfect, sometimes irresponsible life of a 20-year-old. When he grows up, it will be on his schedule. He won’t get away with immature transgressions as a professional, especially as a quarterback; but in the meantime, he’s taking the phony notion of amateurism and turning it on his head. He’s playing for the dear old alma mater, but the alma mater isn’t playing him.

The publicity machine that fills the coffers of athletic departments has created its own benign monster, and it can’t stop Manziel without hurting itself. He’s going to live his life, and we’ll watch him do so. Some will complain, but no one will be able to do a damn thing about it. Nobody tells money what to do.

It truly sucks to be misinformed. Sorry to touch on your insecurities and for rustling your jimmies. Keep watching ESPN, at no point did I criticize the people who watch it, just those that complain about it's content yet continue to tune in. ESPN is made for the casual fan. Do I get paid a premium? Nah, but it's like going out on a date with a dumb *****, at the end of the day no matter how much you want to get laid you just want the ***** to shut the **** up.

I don't look down on those that watch ESPN, just don't come to a message board with the same complaints... "Great, now I got to watch ESPN go over what Tebow ate", "Can ESPN stop showing Manziel already" or the dreaded "Great, now I got to watch a Top 10 full of baseball highlights". As if ESPN is the only source to get sports info, drones .

At the end of the day ESPN is going to live up to it's name, ENTERTAINMENT first and sports second. If there isn't a story, create one.

WheyMint...The laughing smilie doesn't hide the fact that it was your jimmies that were rustled. Two whole paragraphs? At least that Marcus only wrote a few words. Haha.

Some people have no issues formulating their thoughts and typing them out,.

Definitely, some people just don't bring anything to the table.
