I'm with FTI on this... The idea of paying kids who are already receiving benefits above and beyond the average student is ridiculous.

It doesn't solve anything. There will still be boosters. There will still be Shapiros. Schools will still throw more money at recruits. It doesn't keep kids out of trouble.

I left school with THOUSANDS of dollars in debt, and I worked 30-40 hours a week throughout school. Sorry if I don't feel bad for the kid that's walking out with a diploma, food, rent and books for four years for free.

The players that "deserve" to get paid already do. I don't think the third string punter or the starting QB for Akron State should get paid for their "services".

What exactly is Johnny Manziel doing wrong?

Every time ESPN covers him, I just have a really hard time understanding what all of these "analysts" are in an uproar about.  Aside from underage drinking (which is prominent amongst all college students), he hasn't done anything illegal or immoral (yet).  He's a 20 year old on summer vacation.  Is it his fault he has bigger and better toys to play with and cooler friends to hang out with?  It is borderline irritating how all of his off the field activities are being covered and scrutinized.

As for Manziel, he's doing nothing wrong, it's the media thats blowing everything out of proportion. I'm personally tired of hearing about the dude, let his skills do the talking. I was listening to the radio the other day and a caller made a good point, "if it was a texas A&M offensive lineman who did all this, nobody would care"

Another manziel story smh im just glad they blasting another school besides uga cuz everytime something happen at uga they talk about it for months but I am tired of hearing about manziel
 
Sounds like there's a pretty good chance Kendall Fuller will be getting a lot of burn against Bama. I don't see how it's plausible/responsible to put Exum out there so soon after the knee rehab.

I know he was a 5* but that's still a tough ask for a true freshman to go against the #1 team in his first game. I could definitely see him getting targeted a lot.
 
That article on players already being paid is a load because they only use one school as an example. That isn't true for every school especially the housing part. At Syracuse, athletes are not given a stipend for housing or food for the semester/year. They live on South Campus which is apartment styled student housing which would be covered under the room and board section of their scholarship. The only time they are given a stipend for food is when they go on away games and that could be at most $50 per person. That's a poor example of trying to prove your point because as was said earlier, each program isn't created equal and each program does things differently. The author never mentions that at any point during the season a player can be cut and lose all of his benefits for whatever reason. Happens all the time when a new coach comes in and doesn't like the players that fit the system. Its a contract of indentured servitude but the schools see more financially out of said service than a carpenter or welder ever would. The way to solve this imo, is to let those players who are marketable seek Olympic styled deals to earn more while paying a flat rate to everyone else. I'm not a proponent of paying non-revenue players for the simple fact that they use up resources without giving anything in return. If schools could cut them without facing government lawsuits because of Title IX, they would. No one likes being in the red.

As far as the Manziel stuff goes, I'm tired of the coverage. He's doing what any other college aged kid would do. My only advice to him is that you don't need to go to every party or show your face at every event. Its ok to stay inside for a night. He has plenty of people that want to see him fall and they are enjoying every minute of this because a lot of what's going on is self inflicted. He has to take the bad with the good. From the ESPN article you can see that his parents are noticing a change i.e his alcohol issues.
