Northwestern... top 25 team and graduating 100% of their seniors. UMich is still a top school as well.
Exception being tOSU and Urban Meyer. We all know about Urban.
Every school commits recruiting violations. As far as academics go, we've seen players get into schools with some help.
SEC is top dog because they are getting players from the region and cherry picking everywhere else. Teams like UGA, LSU, Florida, etc could remain competitive if they only recruited their respective states. As long as they continue to pump out NFL talent, the B1G will continue to fall behind because they are lacking the athletes the south has.
Personally, I want the B1G to flourish, but in saying that, gotta realize that it has an identity issue. Ground and pound days are almost over.

You know that ain't true There is a reason why dudes from (example) California skip places like Cal, UCLA, Stanford, etc. Cali is the most populous state by far, and you can't even tell me a state like Louisiana is producing more NFL talent than Cali. If you had to go to a school in your state, the best teams would almost certainly be California, Texas and Florida. Nobody would ever go to Alabama if they had any standards and recruited fairly.
I use Northwestern as an example for a bunch of reasons. They're my team, so I know a lot about them. They are right next to one of the biggest cities in the country (Chicago). They are turning into a perennial bowl-bound team, despite being a top 20 school academically and graduating 97% of their seniors. Notre Dame and Michigan pretty much mirror that as well.
As for identity, Northwestern was one of the first teams (along with Oregon) to implement a complete no-huddle, spread offense. I'm predicting that huddles will be a thing of the past in a couple years. Teams rarely use huddles now as it is.
Let's be real: SEC is top dog because they don't give two ***** about academics, and they'll do whatever it takes to land a five star recruit.
To sum it all up, the SEC is on top because they can recruit whoever they want and pretty much offer them whatever they want. The B1G is full of solid schools and although I'm sure they do commit violations, they are no OK State or Florida (well, maybe tOSU with Urban Liar).
