2013 College Football Thread (Realer than Real Deal Holyfield -->S/O Craftsy)

I believe Mel's latest BB had Manziel slotted in the 26-40 range. May have been unnumbered. That's still a far cry from top-15.

You're wrong on all accounts, Ibis. Don't take the L at Goodison out on me.

Hypothetically... say Teddy, MM, and Hundley are all off the board within the first half of the round (Cleveland, Jacksonville, TB, Minnesota, Tenn, Raiders).

It comes around to the Rams/Eagles/Texans/Cardinals. Do you see any of those teams passing up on Johnny Football?

Tell me that Johnny + the Rams + Coach Fisher isn't a match made in heaven. Eagles + Chip? The Texans with that running game. Cardinals are a RB/QB away from being REALLY GOOD.

If Christian Ponder can go #12 overall, Johnny could easily go top 10 when it's all said and done.

These QB's move ALL the way up the board in the end, word to EJ Manuel.

If Johnny was 6'3, he'd be guaranteed to go top 5.

Will all these GM's make the Russell Wilson mistake twice over? I think not.

And Johnny has a much stronger arm than McCarron. How is that not obvious?

I have no problems with someone saying Tebow as a collegian is better than Manziel but why isn't it close? I mean Manziel's 2012 season is arguably better than any single season Tebow had a Florida

I know for sure Cam Newton had a better 2010 than any season Tebow had. You don't have to dig your feet in the ground just to make a point.

People are really going to sit here and act as if Tebow isnt one of the greatest college QBs they have ever seen play.  Just because dude sucked in the NFL doesnt take away from what he did in college.

Tebow > Manziel (not even close at this point)

Dude stop. Nobody is debating Tebow's greatness.

Manziel's season was better than any of Tebow's. Manziel is a better passer. Manziel is a better runner. There is not one thing Tebow did as a player that Manziel isn't better at. And that's no shade at Tebow, he's one of the most accomplished players ever.

Chester: Too much invested in Sam Bradford to give up now. To his credit, he looks far better this early season. Almost led a nice comeback against Atlanta. Sick weapons on the outside. Tavon, Bailey, Pettis, Quick, Cook, Givens.

Texans have Yates, Keenum. Not Earth shattering, but they're not desperate for a Q.

End of the first would make sense though. I'm okay with that risk to close the round. But personally would rather have MM and Hundley if available.

Arians has worked best with prototypical QB's. Ben, Luck, Carson. I don't think that's a match or fit given style and scheme.

As an Eagles fan, if we do take a Q in next year's Draft, it's MM or bust given the Oregon ties. Familiarity. Comfortable offense.

Statis and Ibis: Saying Manziel had one better single season in college than Tebow is fine. That's now what Ibis said. He said Manziel is a better college player, simply not true. Three years of elite SEC football in the title hunt is more than one. I value consistency and longevity. Let's see what Johnny can do to rebound from the Bama loss the rest of the season. Particularly at Baton Rouge.

Tebow has a Heisman. 3-time All-American. 2 NC. Crafted the jump pass with Urban. Not a better passer than Johnny. Running ability is certainly debatable, different styles of scrambling. Johnny is shifty, Tebow is power. Tebow was definitely a more mature player. No off-field incidents. Better leader of men. Reliable, positive, and passionate.

Philosophiae: McCarron has shed the game manager label. He's proven me wrong as I thought he was Bama's one weak link and that Sims would be the future.

He's efficient. Smart with the football. Excellent leader that commands respect in the locker room. No character issues. Moxie.

Arm strength not out of this world, but he makes savvy decisions. He's well-coached by the best in CFB. Late second or early third is reasonable. I never said he's better than Johnny. Manziel's potential and ceiling is higher. But AJ is probably safer. You know what you're getting. Steady.

Y'all don't understand the concept of one player having a better career and one player being the better overall player.

Tebow's rings have nothing to do with being a better player than Manziel.

By that logic Robert Horry is a better player than Charles Barkley

Name me one thing Tebow did better than Manziel does on the football field. Please.

Pass? Run? What exactly?

Don't talk to me about titles. Tell me how he was a better PLAYER, not a more accomplished one.

Manziel doesn't have Harvin, Aaron Hernandez, or UFs great defense either. Manziel doesn't have the luxury of one of the greatest collections of talent in CFB history surrounding him either.

Champ, that arm strength stuff wasn't in your direction.

I agree w/ this, though.

Strictly as a singular player (take all the "accolades" out of the equation), Johnny is simply better than Timmy.

Tim had MUCH better talent around him (particularly on D).  That Florida defense was FULL of savages.

Not to mention Percy, Hernandez and Coop on O...

Reiterating my previous post, Johnny being a better running QB is debatable. Their running ability comes in two different styles. Johnny is shifty, Tebow is power. It's hard to argue against 49 rushing TD's in three years. He closed drives and short yardage situations.

Tebow is a better leader on the field. Mature, dependable, undisputed captain of the ship. That Ole Miss speech is cemented in college football lore. And he backed it up on the field, every word.

Tebow is more efficient throwing the football, only in terms of safety and avoiding risky turnovers. 88 passing touchdowns to 16 interceptions over his career. Ridiculous ratio. Tebow protected the football and made good decisions.

And you know very well the Barkley and Horry example doesn't apply. Tebow and Manziel are comparable as college players individually regardless of team achievements, but if you call a push, the two titles certainly gives the one player an edge. The player who led the team and contributed most statistically as well.

A lot of what Tebow does is intangibles, but I never thought his college career could be disputed. He's one of the best all-time along with Reggie and VY.

I have Marriotta going to St. Louis myself.

Bradford costs a grip of money, new rooks do not for 4 years. Insert Marriotta on that fast track, with those weapons, + yet another #1 pick to use (on Seastrunk :nerd: ) and suddenly that offense is hummin.

Then they save the money on Bradford's contract to fill any holes they need. And still have rounds 2-7 to add depth.

I have the Texans taking McCarron, which is perfect. Imo.

I would want NO PART of Johnny on my team. None. All he'll bring is Tebow type drama to the roster. No thank you. I don't see any way that kid makes it in the league. Maybe I'm wrong and he'll change my mind, but at this point, easy pass for me. I rather have Logan Thomas.

Be like the new Gronk and Hernandez.

Mix in some trick TE laterals with the TE throwing across the field, could have somethin.

IMHO, Vince Young was better than Tim Tebow in college as well.

I never felt like Tim truly DOMINATED games by himself, week after week. He had A LOT of help.

He was a fantastic player surrounded by other fantastic players.

And I'm not even trying to discredit him.  He's an all time great.

Mariota with those weapons on turf would be killer. I love it, and am still not convinced or committed to Bradford.

Rams against SF, SEA, ARI. All strong defenses. Fun.

the texans QB after schaub isn't on the current roster.

stop making so much damn sense.

johnny would be a good fit for us with all the bootlegs we run. solid run game to support him, and he's good on the run obviously.

as far as you don't see him making it in the league, why? he's a very underrated pocker passer. i think at times he has a tendency to feel the outside rush and just scramble which will be less effective in the NFL, but you can't argue his creativity is on a complete other level

That's my thinking. Turf makes that offense stupid. Him, Kap, Wilson in that division? :x

Thing is, I need his arm to get better quick. Not strength wise, accuracy wise. I'm sure he can learn and be coached up, etc, but if he doesn't get that right soon, it could affect him in the league fast.

Overall I had Morris to Jax in Rd 2 (Clowney)
Boyd to KC.
Teddy to Oakland
McCarron to Houston
Marriotta to the Lou
Aaron Murray to the Jets, cux it would be a perfect fit to his college career.

Fales, Gardner, and Hundley I haven't placed yet. Also need to look up that kid Bortles? He's the rising star right now, but I don't know much about him yet.

Too much of a Cowboy. He's clearly better than Tebow and can actually play the spot, but him heaving the ball in the middle of the field, and throwing it up to 6-5 receivers all the time isn't always going to work. On top of that, his hype is going to be insane. Tebowesque, which will only cause more trouble.

In college you can get by on pure talent. In the league, you can't. I don't see him being precise enough in the NFL to work out, he too much Favre in him I guess is what I'm getting at, but without Favre's arm.

Completely forgot about Boyd.

I just love the fact that (it seems) GMs have FINALLY reached a point where they don't give a **** about measureables. If you can play, you can play. We're going to go from the '13 draft, where one QB was taken in the first...to '14, where you could have as many as 6 go in the first round. And some of those guys are 6'1" or shorter.

AJ is going to be fun.

If he's sent to Cleveland, he dies.

If he's sent to.........the old Eagles, not Chips, but say Andy Reid's, and he has McCoy, D-Jax, Maclin, Celek, and a solid Oline, in that scenario, he'd live and thrive.

Carry a team, built around, I don't think he makes it. Joins a team that is deep with weapons, he can learn quick, be smart, take the lumps but come out alright. I'm really interested to see who takes him and how they plan for him.

Browns are gonna need a QB too. 30 year old projects are never a good look under center.

Plus, Devin Gardner probably isn't coming out.

Hundley is the truth.
