2013 College Football Thread (Realer than Real Deal Holyfield -->S/O Craftsy)

Do you think its wack for teams to celebrate a rose bowl win CP?

Within their fanbase, you can absolutely be happy about a bowl win. You start spoutin off about it as some badge of honor, I'll die laughing at you.

I could be way off base, but if you ask a USC fan to name all their titles, they can do so with ease. WITH EASE. Ask them to list bowl wins, and they won't know more than 4.

Miami has plenty of 11-1 seasons and won some bowl game and finished #2 in the polls etc. Wasted season. Flat out wasted year. We shoulda went 12-0 and won it all. We failed. PERIOD.
We won what, 20+ games in a row, back to back title games, triple OT, we LOST. We failed. You see anybody in here giving us "respect" for being in that game, and reaching triple OT, or anything? Or you see dudes clownin, and callin us Al Bundy? We didn't win. Thee end.

Win that game, nobody can say nothin about those years, the train keeps rollin. Shapiro money well spent. :pimp:

I really hope this mentality doesn't translate into your personal life, because damn that's a miserable life otherwise.

You're a Duck fan, you get excited about beating USC, winning Pac 12 titles, **** like that. Course you don't understand. 5 years ago you guys celebrated 9 win seasons and winning regular season games at home against SC, etc. Come on.

I agree with you CP, but there is two things.
1. After seeing Bama get into the BCS title game when they didn't even play in their conference game, that was a joke. Bama probably was the best team that year but they didn't deserve to be in the game.

2. Too much plays into who gets into the BCS title game. The fact that a 1 loss team who lost to a bad team in the beginning of the year gets higher ranked than a 1 lost team who gets beat by a good team towards the end of the season is unfair. Just look at the 2000 season. How does Florida st. get into the Orange bowl (National title game) over Miami or UW

Ed Reed & Co (really teams before them). expected to win that Conference, because they actually did it before. It meant nothing because the meaning behind it went away after they kept winning it.

How can winning a conference mean nothing if you've never won it?

I think that is the point Statis is driving home. To act like it means 0, is hard to understand, when you have never done it. I highly doubt ( I could be wrong) that anyone is saying that it is the be all end all, and it is something that is to be celebrated profusely & put on a pedestal. But is is something.

Teams have a culture of winning, because **** like that was passed down to them by the team and classes before. If you have to point to Ed Reed era to point out a time when Conference championships were basically a foregone conclusion, the fact that someone doesn't see how your team winning one in a new conference means nada, shouldn't be surprising.

It would mean something, but it wouldn't matter. If that makes sense.

Sound about right

If Miami or UW don't lose a game, then Florida St doesn't go ahead of them. No one to blame but us.

I'm a 49ers fan too, but I don't care if they don't win the superbowl as long as they have a good season. :rolleyes

And?

So USC wins the Pac whatever, gets destroyed by Alabama. So what, SC fans run around claimin Pac whatever titles?

Ohio State wins the Big 10, gets rolled by LSU, Buckeyes do what, puff they chest out about the damn conference title they won?

Do you HONESTLY believe that Ed Reed, Sean Taylor, Ken Dorsey, Vince Wilfork were clamorin for that Big East title? Do you think they even knew they played in the Big East?

I absolutely care ZERO about winning some conference title. The whole title, is all that matters. Save your participation badges for the Georgia fanbases, or the Boise State folks, all the Pac 10 schools not named USC, etc. Those places care about winning conference titles, or a bowl game, what have you.

Utah Jazz went to the playoffs 23 years in a row. And? Oakland A's make the playoffs every year, got a book and movie made about them, have no idea what a World Series win looks like since 88.

We don't obsess over sports to watch teams make the playoffs, or win a bowl game, we obsess over winning it all. I don't care about factors, or votes, or anything else. Raise a banner, or the year was a waste. That's the only way to be. Smaller goals make you a smaller program.

The Dodgers are about to fire their manager while making the NLCS if they don't win this series. That fanbase got their priorities in order. I don't get with all this pat on the back, we're 9-2 and won the southern half of our conference, let's raise a flag about it. :smh:

Great post!

Over the past few years, we haven't been good. Going from Cooker to Radio, and living in mediocracy, the student body fans started looking at conference titles and bowl game wins as a plus. However, historically that doesn't matter to us. If we don't win it all, as CP stated, it's considered a failed year.

Golden is a phenomenal coach and an amazing recruiter. Next year's recruiting class looks like one of the best we've ever brought in.

This year I wasn't expecting us to win it all, however each week they look better and better. I wouldn't say the season is a failure if we don't win the NC, however if next year they don't win the NC, it is a failure.

Fair enough, now explain fans with zero titles telling me won titles mean nothing.

Then re-explain those conference titles mean something again?

but florida st. lost a game also.
They lost to Miami. Miami finished 2nd in the polls
Miami lost to UW that finished 3rd in the polls
UW lost to Oregon which finished 7th in the polls

Titles don't mean **** if you weren't alive to see them. Not talking about you since you saw princeton win their titles

Bruh nobody is discrediting Miami's titles. And winning conference championships aren't the end all be all but it is still one of the few things a team can control.

trying to understand how a team cares about winning a BCS championship but doesn't care about winning your own conference...when you can't win a BCS game without winning your conference. hell, you can win your conference and still not make it to the BCS championship game.

Seriously?

THIS. This ain't the NFL thread, but that's what I try to tell the stupid Cowboys fans at my school.

A ton, an I mean a ton of you Saints' fans didn't come on the scene until the Payton X Brees era.
Considering you're in school, whether that be HS or college almost assures me you were not a "die-hard" fan of those scrubs around the dark dark years of the franchise, I'm talking Ditka... city about to lose the franchise era.

So you won't be happy if Miami makes the Orange Bowl this year?

Whats the difference between the orange bowl and the champs sports bowl other then the hype. It's just another bowl game with a lot of.hype. of course its achieving because its a bcs game but in reality your goal to start a season is to win a NC. Not the orange bowl.or sugar bowl or etc.

So you won't be happy if Miami makes the Orange Bowl this year?

Happy? Sure.

Run my gums about it? Never.

I care about titles, not 10 win seasons, bowl wins, etc.

11-1 #2 in rankings = fail.

Stepping stone to next year? Sure. But fail for 2013.

Ali, you can win ALL of your games and still not play for the national championship. But sure lets compare that to other leagues where this would never happen.

ERRONEOUS!

We don't get rolled by SEC teams,

This whole conference pride thing is ridiculous and you can thank the SEC, ESPN and the BCS for that.

Prior to the BCS it was all about getting to the Rose Bowl and spanking the Big Ten. Now you kind of have to vouch for the entire conference since perception is huge, it is bigger than reality when it comes to college football.
