2013 College Football Thread (Realer than Real Deal Holyfield -->S/O Craftsy)

If grant papers allow unlimited contact, why don't we see that loophole used significantly more often? Or have I just not been paying attention?

There's nothing legally binding for the kid to sign grant papers, so why wouldn't you do it?

What the majority of the college football fanbase fails to pay attention to is the line of scrimmage. Everybody is caught up in scoring and skill players, but when it comes down to it, the best teams have monsters up front....

Look at Bama's success... you think you give them Oregon's o-line and d-line, they win all those 'chips? No.

There are a number of teams that could compete with(and most likely beat) Oregon in the SEC... LSU, Mizzou, Bama, Auburn come to mind(Although Auburn has depth issues on the d-line). I'm not saying there isn't talent on the ducks line of scrimmage, it's just a player here, a player there. Bama produces NFL talent at ALL big positions. (Along with UF, LSU, ect.)

ninjallama--The only 2 teams in the PAC that put the talent up front are Stanford and USC... If you think UCLA could compete with teams like Georgia and LSU, you got another thing coming my friend... it would be disastrous. Hell, BC would beat UCLA by 14 imo. they have bigs... UCLA has a nice quarterback.
Then again Oregon can also compete AND win against those mentioned SEC teams too. Of course we can't match toe to toe with OL and DL in the depth chart, there's other parts to our game that the SEC will have a tough time to contain.

UCLA v. Georgia? Maybe ugly when Georgia is healthy but it will still be a game. You make the SEC sound untouchable. Even Washington State made Auburn sweat earlier this season. WSU was a play away from tying the game late in the 4th and the game was at Auburn too.

I do agree with you on the O line and D line being key but we're just not gifted with players and recruits in those positions. Saying that, we don't produce much NFL playere buts it's not like they are non existent. We had Kyle Long and Dion Jordan drafted 1st round last year.

Offtopic but USC has probably the best looking sideline watergirls/assistants in college football.

I know those players run through them

I'm not a huge fan of uniform talk and it's not really directed at those but I think it's corny when teams wear uniforms that have nothing to do with the school's colors and **** or have corny phrases on the back, unless both have to do with honoring the military or a cause.

Like schools whose colors are red & yellow wearing black or grey uniforms, it just seems forced at this point and they're trying to stand out. I don't know...I think one of the great things about college football is that these schools have unique traditions and an identity...I'm far from conservative and I like change but the uniform thing is so overdone. It's like some people get more excited about what their team is wearing than the game itself.

Completely agree, some are really tasteless. It does feel like some schools care more about gear than actually winning the game/conference/title.

USC doesn't need Ogeron in order to recruit.

Amen, I'm sayin'

90% of student trainers get run through, just hope your girl, the girl you dated, is/was in the 10%,

Report: Baylor LT Spencer Drango out with back injury

Spencer Drango has started 22 straight games for Baylor. (USATSI)Spencer Drango has started 22 straight games for Baylor. (USATSI)
If Baylor goes on to finish off an undefeated regular season and remain in the BCS championship race, it will have to overcome a rash of offensive injuries that has now reportedly claimed its starting left tackle.

Sophomore Spencer Drango will undergo surgery for a ruptured disk in his back, associate athletic director Heath Nielsen confirmed to ESPN radio Tuesday (and late indirectly verified on his own Twitter feed). There is no timetable for Drango's return.

Drango joins starting receiver Tevin Reese, out for the regular season, in missing Saturday's crucial top-10 showdown at Oklahoma State. Top tailbacks Lache Seastrunk and Glasco Martin also missed last week's win over Texas Tech.

A freshman All-American in 2012 after redshirting in 2011, Drango had started every game in both the 2012 and 2013 seasons, a streak of 22 starts that had put him in the All-Big 12 mix. The Bear offensive line has paved the way to nearly 300 yards rushing per-game, 10th in the FBS.

Art Briles could either replace Drango with backup Pat Colbert, or shift current right tackle Kelvin Palmer to the left side. Colbert has never started a game for Baylor.

Drango tweeted the following Monday night:

Spencer Drango @Drango58

Thank you to everyone for all of the prayers and kind words! God has a plan for me and this is just a little part of His plan for me!

Hypothetical, if he was found guilty and kicked off the team would that hurt their ranking? If I remember correctly, a while back (college basketball) didn't Cincinatti lose someone from their team, win a game, then drop in the rankings?

I didn't mean to make them sound untouchable although i see how i came off that way... just wanted to point out that the bigs do so much more for a team than people acknowledge. Johnny Manziel showed that superior talent and competitiveness with sometimes a little luck can trump a solid O/D-line.

sorry if i hurt your feelings ninja

any update on the winston situation?
Official: Woman 'changed mind'
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The alleged victim in the sexual-assault investigation tied to Florida State Seminoles quarterback Jameis Winston was initially reluctant to cooperate with police, according to an email from the Tallahassee city manager.

The Tallahassee Democrat obtained a copy of the email from city manager Anita Favors Thompson to city commissioners in which Thompson said the initial investigation stalled after the alleged victim "changed her mind and did not wish to prosecute."

Winston was never interviewed by police, according to his attorney, Tim Jansen. The case was deemed inactive in February.

Last week, Tallahassee police received multiple open records requests from media and the status of the case was returned to active. It was soon forwarded to the state attorney's office.

Jansen said he had no knowledge of new evidence that had come to light in the interim, but Tallahassee police spokesman David Northway said that a media request for records alone would not change the status of an investigation.

Northway said that it is standard procedure for police to follow up on an investigation following a media request for records, and that new information may come to light at that time.

Kenyon Martin broke his leg.

Also Syracuse covered up Arinze Onuako's injury during the NCAA tourney so they could get a one seed, they initially said he had a calf injury but he had torn his ACL.

Other then it was covered up by the TPD no lmaoo

You wish this were true

The original request came on Friday after that big Thursday night double header from someone who works @ a newspaper in Tampa. Then TMZ got ahold of it and now we are where we are now

This request to reopen was a result of that not the woman requesting it to be re-examined

By the time he would be found guilty (if he did it) the season would be over. Its already november. Greg Dent got arrested & Charged in June & hes yet to go to court. If JW gets formally charged he is suspended

Dunno how that would figure into the BCS formula

I don't get upset over assumption made using a forum signature. I just continue to lose faith in humanity.

Not really. From what I read the case was never sent out to the state attorneys office intill TMZ asked about the case. And now the lady doesn't want anything investigated? Come on now. Oh and I'm pretty sure winstons two witnesses are also football players.
