2013 College Football Thread (Realer than Real Deal Holyfield -->S/O Craftsy)

Oregon got a commit from another OL today :pimp:
A JC from San Mateo 6'5" 290, which adds to the 6'4" 298 and 6'7" 305 OL kids they recruited earlier.
These aren't exactly impressive numbers I know, but all three are as big or bigger than Jamal Prater. Prater was the last OL the Ducks recruited that was 290 or more, and that was back in 2011.
It's good to see some more big guys being added to the roster

Bama's extension was near $7M for Saban. Texas could go $8M-per and offer a new challenge. I've long been on record for Saban's imminent departure from Tuscaloosa to Austin.

Jewbacca: Get ready, man.

Finally trying to stack up against Stanford and SEC lines.

I think I'd enjoy the headlines of Saban going to Texas more than most other things I've seen in sports lately. The meltdowns on that Bama board would be enough even

No way in hell is Saban getting 10/100 and 1% stake in LHN.

Just take Jimbo, Texas. He's better than Saban.

Multiple people have confirmed that Nick Saban was paged at the Austin airport this morning. THAT is hysterical.

The airport is calling for a "Nick Saban" right now..... Wondering if he's here to visit Texas? [emoji]128552[/emoji]
Supreme trolling (or ... news?)
Alabama prepared to give Nick Saban another raise, according to CBS

Alabama is ready to give head coach Nick Saban another raise in order to keep him as the highest paid coach in college football,  according to CBS Sports' Jeremy Fowler. The school reportedly approached Saban's representation before the Crimson Tide's 34-28 loss to Auburn in the regular-season finale.

NFL.com senior analyst Gil Brandt followed up the CBS story by  reporting  negotiations for a deal in the range of $7 million per year. That would be a substantial pay boost over Saban's current contract.

Saban is making $5.5 million this season,  per USA Today, which places him just ahead of the country's second-richest head coach, Texas' Mack Brown. Brown is making $5.4 million in 2013. Saban has taken Alabama on an run of three national titles in four years, unprecedented for the school, and the Crimson Tide have compiled an eye-popping 72-8 record since the start of the 2008 season. They're 42-6 in SEC play during that stretch.

Brown's days in Austin may be numbered, and a decision on the coach's future is expected  within the next 48 hours. If there is a changing of the guard at Texas, Saban's name will top the list of possible replacements. He has already been linked to the Longhorns via several reports and rumors, denying interest each time. But if he does indeed turn down UT, he will likely also turn down an incredibly lucrative contract.

Despite the persistent Saban-to-Texas rumors, they have nothing to do with Alabama's readiness to give its head coach a raise, according to Fowler's report.

I don't think it's trolling. I believe that Texas will escort two Brinks trucks in front of the Saban residence with diamonds and chocolates for Terry.

At LSU and more so recently at Bama, Saban gives you a supreme and legitimate chance to win the NC every year with his coaching and recruiting. He's shown no fear in moving around jobs in the past. SEC is lauded as the hardest conference. Even his squad this season couldn't escape the SEC schedule and rigors unscathed.

Texas has the most resources in CFB. He would be revered as a savior if he returns Texas to national prominence. Which he will.

My hunch all along has been Saban to Texas since the opening weeks of September when Mack's seat heated up majorly.

10/100 is one thing, but a percentage in a huge product which no other program can offer and will grow in perpetuity? That's talking.

Stake in LHN would be unprecedented. I don't think Texas goes that far. They want their guy, but with some sort of tact, moxie, and pride. You don't give in to all of Saban's requests and demands on principle, leverage, and distinction alone.

Jewbacca: It's okay to admit you're sweating Knowshon Moreno tears.

I imagine a percentage just might be what Texas needs to convince Saban to leave. Alabama will give near as much money as Texas, so if you're Texas you understand that you have to offer something more to convince Saban to leave a winning situation.

Yes, Terry is a huge factor in the Saban sweepstakes. Happy wife, happy life. Which is why I like being a bachelor. Following the George Clooney playbook like I'm a Mike Holmgren disciple.

Folk Blues: You could see Bama matching a huge Texas offer of 10/100?

I don't either. So LHN is not the first issue for Bama to worry about in contract negotiations. Texas can and will overpay $7M-per. You use the icing on the cake if it's necessary.

If Saban does leave I wonder if Bama looks to another Saban Disciple in Dantonio...Has had three 11 win seasons, and only makes like 1.9 ml a year...salary would double @ Bama

LHN won't be around after the initial contract is up. There's no way ESPN is making a return on their investment.
