2013 College Football Thread (Realer than Real Deal Holyfield -->S/O Craftsy)

Random thought/opinion from our game this past Saturday: Denard returning kicks = bad idea. Just read on twitter that Hoke said we might see it again.

Mackensie Alexander supposedly narrowed his choices down to Clemson and Texas A&M following his visit to College Station this past weekend...not sure how much to read into anything about this kid since he hates talking to the media so much, but that's what Luke Stampini at 247 had to say.

Given our lack of depth at safety, I'd be completely fine with offering his brother if it meant securing Mackensie.

Did Lane Kiffin try to deceive Colorado by having players switch jerseys?

USC coach Lane Kiffin may have tried to willfully deceive Colorado during the Trojans' 50-6 win. That's what the L.A. Times was wondering when the paper asked Kiffin about backup quarterback Cody Kessler changing jerseys while playing on special teams in the first half.
Kessler usually wears No. 6, but he switched to No. 35 during special teams plays, which included a run for a two-point conversion. Punter Kyle Negrete is No. 35.
Kiffin tried to play off the jersey switching by claiming his team did nothing wrong.
"We change jerseys all the time with our guys," Kiffin said Tuesday. "We'll change some more this week. Everything's within college rules."
Well, yes and no.
Players are allowed to wear the same number as another player as long as they're not on the field together, but NCAA rules specifically prohibit the changing of jerseys if it's meant to deceive another team.
In "The Football Code" of the NCAA rule book, under a list of "unethical practices," the first item is "Changing numbers during the game to deceive the opponent."
According to the Times, special teams coach John Baxter told Kessler to change jerseys in the first half.
"Coach Baxter told me to put it on, so I was like, 'All right. Yes sir,'" Kessler said. "[Tailback] D.J. Morgan came up to me and said, 'Yeah, you look like a running back.'"
Kessler also noted that he was trying to look "big" like Negrete, who outweighs the quarterback by about 10 pounds. The two players are both 6-foot-1.
No matter how you spin this, there was some sort of deception involved. No reason to change Kessler's jersey if there wasn't. Why you would need to fool a Colorado team that had no business being on the same field as USC is beyond me, but doing so appears to be a violation of ethics and should have been assessed a 15-yard penalty.
While USC might not have been caught this time around, there's no doubt other teams and officials will be watching for it in the future.

The hell?

Gunna,
What ya hearing on the Gruden rumors?

the best I got isquote/unquote "Hart will make Gruden turn down the job. it wont be feelers, it will be legit BIG offer. "

I honestly believe after Dooley loses the South Carolina game he will be fired and the ball will begin rolling on the search.

Real talk, I'd take prefer runs at some New blood. Kingsbury, Chad Morris, Taggart, David Shaw...

but those names will not be big enough for the Boosters.

Probably more along the lines of Gruden, Petrino, Strong...

whoever we get, I hope we keep Jay Graham and Darin Hinshaw on staff, Errrybody else GOTTA GO!x

Not sure Kingsbury is ready for something like that yet...

He'll be at Tech whenever Tubs leaves or gets fired.

Deal with it.

(they were trying it in real game conditions to see how it'd play for future use.)

YO, headed down to South Carolina this weekend, what's good with Columbia?

My wife and I will make the trip too, got season tickets. Since the game's at noon, not much time to tailgate. We'll get in around 1030, park, go to the game and go home. Plenty of stuff to do in the city though if you're into bars/night life/ etc.

So, there's a game tonight. Not a must-watch but I just saw that Clemson's other starting CB is out. That means the top 3 CBs in fall camp are all hurt, 2 of them for the season...and none were that great anyway. Thursday night away game, even though Clemson should beat Wake easily...I don't know.
