Did he even have a career to begin with? I mean, some mixtape buzz is one thing, but that doesn't really correlate into work and $$.

I don't blame him though--after all this time of not being "on", he had to latch onto something or someone that is.
 
Financially, its a good thing for him. Like others have said, he can get some tour money and ghostwriting money. Hell, its CMR, he should get rich off theladder.
