Doctors are the #1 Cause of Death in the United States

UTVol23 and TypeRPinoY are actually MD's FYI so...

Are you serious? Cipro is a very common antibiotic prescribed for a urinary tract infections. The incidence of tendon rupture from a one time very short use of Cipro is very low especially if you are a relatively healthy young adult the highest incidence of spontaneous tendon rupture is in the elderly who are also using steroids. If you are that fearful of using it there are other alternatives but smoking may be another of your problems.
That is the problem with websites like askapatient, webmd and the like you have lay people who go on these sites and look up their symptoms and conditions and then psych themselves into having the disease or look up a procedure and see the complications for the given procedure even thought the risk is very small but somehow convince themselves it happens all the time.
Looking up a disease on the internet and reading about it for 10 mins does not afford you the clincal knowledge and understanding of the pathophysiology that 4 yrs of undergrad, 4 yrs of med school and 3-8 yrs of residency do.
I understand what you're saying,

but why are there so many horrible reviews.(FROM REAL PEOPLE)

I don't think the company who sell this drug is writing those reviews themselves.

OP if I were you, I would fight the power and never go to a doctor again.

Smh @ the thread title, its like saying dirt is the number 1 cause of dirty clothes

Here I will help you out with some data so you are not so fearful of Cipro:

The absolute overall risk of Achilles tendon ruptures was 5.5 and 3.5 per 100 000 person-years in people aged 60 to 79 years and 80 years or older, respectively. Given the population-attributable risk percentage of 2.2% in patients aged 60 to 79 years and of 6.3% in people 80 years or older, these figures mean that the absolute risk of Achilles tendon ruptures is low, even in those 80 years or older.

This effect was demonstrated only in persons aged 60 years or older, and within this group concomitant use of corticosteroids increased the risk substantially

The article the above quotes come from is:

Increased Risk of Achilles Tendon Rupture With Quinolone Antibacterial Use, Especially in Elderly Patients Taking Oral Corticosteroids, Archives of Internal Medicine August 2003, Vol 163 No. 15

definitely not reading that second article but im just going to go ahead and assume that it was posted to make some point about how doctors get paid bajillions of dollars to prescribe certain medications which is false. we would get paid the same if we prescribed FREE generic metformin or $1200/month bydureon for diabetes. doctors (for the most part) make next to nothing from pharmaceuticals. all that money goes to the CEOs of Pfizer, Novartis, etc.

Do people who have successful interactions leave good comments?

Think about this.

Every time you've taken cough syrup or tylenol, have you felt so good that you went online to say how successful the medicine was?

NOT TO TRIVIALIZE THOSE WITH BAD EXPERIENCES, but usually, those with bad experiences want to tell everyone about it, especially if they have no one else to share it with and feel like they're not getting any response from their doctor/healthcare provider

because Americans are a million times more inclined to ***** and complain than respond positively.

Because people who don't get negative side effects don't run to the internet to post about it

OK well check this out... I'm not on some lame *** YOLO BS, and after reading the reviews im not going to take my chances with popping a few pills, with a mentality to "always expect the best".

the people who are writing those reviews are ANON, and some are 19-25 years old saying they're crippled for life, a father says he lost his daughter to the drug, he's writing the review for his decesed daughter... those risk are to high.. and shall i mention the drug has a BLACK BOX WARNING.

why are you trying to sooth and rock me to sleep with your statistical numbers. did you take those statistics FIRST HAND?.... FIRST HAND?

Ya know what youre right the gig is up its time we drs admit it.

Your primary care physician prescribed you cipro so next time you play ball your achilles would rupture which would then force you to go to the ER ( to see TypeR) this would then result in your MRI to confirm the rupture (read by yours truly) you would then be referred to orthopedic surgery for surgical correction of the achilles rupture. Its all in our masterplan to get us all paid.8)

HOLY $#!$#KABOB!!

You know what I just thought of...?

If Pig Love actually dedicated the same amount of time reading and 'studying' and finding info about all these crazy conspiracies, etc... , but on something worth while, which would actually help our society, like lets say something in the STEM fields, he might actually be well educated and be a lot of help with not only the field, but also the voice for the fields and spreading good information.

Could you imagine if he took the time and fervor he does on BS and instead dedicated it to something worth while?

of course he didnt collect the data. he's too busy swimming in his pool of gold like scrooge mcduck.

i wouldnt trust data from one source anyway. i would want it to be verified and the results to be reproducible. maybe even published somewhere reputable like wikipedia or heaven forbid maybe even a peer reviewed journal like JAMA or the New England Journal of Medicine. i wonder if anything about cipro's efficacy in treating UTIs has ever been published anywhere

You clearly don't know what statistics mean then when they work in your favor.

But you know better. Have fun with that UTI.

You realize even your beloved webmd says that spontaneous tendon rupture occurs in a bout 1/100000 people that is 0.001%
where as Chance of American man developing cancer in his lifetime: 1 in 2

Because people who don't get negative side effects don't run to the internet to post about it
the fact of the matter IS... that there are people posting about it.
Where are the positive reviews then?

Doesn't it strike you that ALL the reviews you've read were negative?

Even books on Amazon get a "5 Star" once in a while.

Again, people with good experiences don't leave positive comments when it comes to medicine. They're more liable to lash out and seek attention and support when things aren't going their way.

America is the fattest country in the world!  Everyone these days need to learn how to manage what they eat, develop an exercise regimen and not sit on their fat butts all day, stop smoking and drink in moderation.  By doing this, you reduce your chances for hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, diabetes, obesity, COPD/asthma, heart disease etc.
