Personally I think both are fine. I would prefer the red to be more "fire" red, but that's not to say the darker is "bad", "ugly", etc. If the red on the 2013 pair is true to the 2000 pair cool, if not, JB could have done MUCH worse.
 
For @AirThompson's pics I'm preferring the varsity red over fire red. It looks better with the clear sole
 
I am surprised these are getting so much hate. I just don't like this colorway. If the other Fire Reds have the same changes these have, I wouldnt complain. And those have much more red on em.

I'm disappointed that they're not releasing the black tongue fire red V's. Those were one of my favorites. Still regret getting rid of my 2006's. Don't really like from the early release pics.
 
If these go the way of the '12 "fire red" IVs and sit on shelves for a month or 2, I won't mind because that'll mean easy purchase for me.
 
Will cop aslong as they looking nothing like these early release pics lol ... sole is way too blue..

watch in the next couple of months the cdp pairs for sale and people scooping them up. these just overall look horrid. how hard is it to even remotely look anything like the og's or first retro's? was hoping to get something close to these-

funny since nike was discontinuing the silver jordan boxes,
how the 2000 wht/blk/red V came with three different combinations of box & sticker

am curious...anybody have all three? i think it was regional
 
This picture has got me thinking of getting multiple of all 5's next year. Look at the padding around the ankle and on the tongue, which the height of is dope! If the do the padding justice like the Metallic V's last year then all V's will be copped next year! I own the CDP and as cool as it is with the 23 I could care less, I love the 5's for the silhouette :smokin my favorite numbered Jordan.

It looks like JB got tired of taking all my money. Out of all the "confirmed" V releases the grapes are the only must haves. Hope the betrer fire reds come out too. Too bad for them considering the IVs and Vs are my favorites.

That leaves me with the grapes, banned royals, Aquas, Columbia XIs if they all come out.

Still got my CDP Fire Red 5's sitting on ice but I'll definitely scoop a pair of these when they drop. I just hope the tongues on these won't be produced similar to the Metallic 5 2011 release. The tongues from the retro 5's from '06-'08 had a lot more of that reflective material and better shape/detail to it.. the 2011 metallics tongue was fatter, sloppy shape, and had more of a cheap silver-y hue as opposed to that nice 3M reflective tongue I was accustomed to
