His cousin, Diontaye Thompson, says "You can see how the world is like changing, people killing over sneakers."

:smh: :smh:

sneaker game these days:
1. reseller sky high price
2. limited quantity
3. camp out
4. riot/killing/fighting over a pair of shoes
5. price increase, quality decrease

i wish we could go back to the day where all shoes sat, no hype, no reselling, no kids dying over stupid pieces of plastic and rubber.

Hate to say it but unfortunately it's not a new issue. Guys have been robbed/killed snce the '80s for sneakers.

Nike should come out and ban shops from allowing lineups.

ALL of this and I do mean ALL of this can be stopped by one simple action, RANDOM RELEASE DATES!!! Nobody knows when the shoe gets released until a store gets shipment and the store puts them on shelves. People randomly run into the shoe, no lineups, no employee's holding pairs (actually this will still probably happen, may get worse  ), resellers potentially catching on late, no casing shoe lines, no violence, PROBLEM SOLVED! Nike may not get a 1st day sellout but believe the culture is mainstream enough big shoes will sell out within a few weeks. Plus the stores themselves will get people stopping in more frequently instead of just that saturday causing that "see and purchase" impulse more often. RANDOM RELEASE DATES!!!

P.S. I know this wouldn't solve EVERY problem but its damn sure a start.

Why?

You dont see this stuff happening when the new iPhone, XBox, or PS3 drops. Those items are all higher priced and are in much more demand across all demographics. People camp longer for all those releases and you never hear about any type of violence.

The problem isnt WHAT is being sold, but WHO the product is being peddled to.

people have been murdered over parking spots, and now we are outraged over this?
pretty sure there have been murders over macbooks and ipods too, as long as you pay for it you can die over it

^^^

No, the problem is the product that's being sold. Comparing shoes to an iphone is completely ******ed.

There isn't a set number of iPhones produced. You can get any phone/electronic you want whenever you want.

Let Apple limit the iPhone 5 to only 100,00 made. I guarantee you'll see Black Friday type riots.

I can see what your saying but I also think it has alot to do with the fact big shoe release seem to be a finite item, eventually that big shoe sells out not to be produced again until it retros 10+ years from the original. Mix that in with loads of testosterone and ignorance you get explosive results. People dont trip in iPhone, xbox, and PS3 lines because EVERYBODY knows those items will be produced and restocked continuously, shoes don't most times...

he got killed for the $ not the shoes. they robbed the whole line. they all got free shoes tho. the price of the shoe made em a target cause every1 had at least $220+ tax on em.

i'm praying the sneaker game market bubble bursts to get rid of these fools . . .

woah this is literally down the street from me. i was waiting for something like this to happen, but didn't expect it to happen in Rochester

side note: i didn't even know there was a sneaker store down the street.

Exactly.  Even if he was robbed and killed for his shoes, it's not something that's all of a sudden happening.  It's been happening since the 80's.  SI did a cover story on people getting robbed and killed for Air Jordans back in the day.  People were getting killed over wearing BK's (British Knights) back in the 90's.

That issue has always been around and unfortunately, will continue to be around.  Feel sorry for his family.  Sounds like the kid was trying to change his life around too.  At some point, you have to ask yourself, "Are shoes really that important?"  I see kids camping out for a pair of shoes and can't help but wonder why they aren't doing something more productive with their time.  I love shoes just like the next person but never enough to put myself in a position where something could potentially go sour.

Yeah he was rob for his money waiting inline ...that's nothing new.....any thug or thugs will take the opportunity where they know where easy money is at with little to none resistance: ATM, coming out store/or going in, come from casino after winning money, bus stop and ect.... Living in Memphis I've heard it all.

And from listen to the story i guess he didn't give up his money like other guys who where inline did and put up resistance, which we all should learn not to do because most these foolish people who commit these crimes are already nervous/sketchy and the smoother the transaction is for them, the less likely anybody will get hurt but when we resist and add all the extra variables that they didn't plan for; they don't know how to react to which ends with somebody being hurt.

Also try not carry cash if you do camp...get you a credit card people.

makes it more annoying that it's been going on for so long Nike really needs to get it together.
