Don't know who's fault this was.

It's easy to blame Nike, but the Crimsons were a GR. The mall probably had an unorganized release.

Or maybe he just got robbed.

Either way, it's really sad that my brothers are killing each other over pieces of rubber and plastic that cost 20 bucks to make. We are still slaves mentally to material things.

RIP to the kid though. We as a society don't value life enough. It's sad a mother only has a picture of her kid to remember now over a pair of damn shoes.

Exactly.  Even if he was robbed and killed for his shoes, it's not something that's all of a sudden happening.  It's been happening since the 80's.  SI did a cover story on people getting robbed and killed for Air Jordans back in the day.  People were getting killed over wearing BK's (British Knights) back in the 90's.

That issue has always been around and unfortunately, will continue to be around.  Feel sorry for his family.  Sounds like the kid was trying to change his life around too.  At some point, you have to ask yourself, "Are shoes really that important?"  I see kids camping out for a pair of shoes and can't help but wonder why they aren't doing something more productive with their time.  I love shoes just like the next person but never enough to put myself in a position where something could potentially go sour.
prob for la gear an pony b4 that

People have been getting robbed for kicks for forever but not under these circumstances. Nike cant help if people cant afford the shoe but they damn sure can help the violence happening when 20 people have a pair of kicks 100 people outside want to. Im all for limiting kicks so they're not a dime a dozen but u literally got dudes coming out the store trying to sell them to people in line. Or even sell spots in line. They can produce enough to satisfy the intial rush and make it not profitable for these clowns or its gonna get way worse especially when dudes out here so thirsty to make minimum wage waiting in line just to sell for gas money there and back or their cab ride

random releases don't work in the real world.

there are thousands, if not millions of people in the supply chain. from nike's designers, marketers, sales (to retailers), even down to the middle men who contract out to the sweatshops in indonesia or vietnam or china, even the UPS and FedEx guy who deliver it. that all has to be planned and scheduled.

before a store receives shipment, the retailer has to know what's going to be available and when (so they can plan for hot merchandise for the holidays or back to school). contracts have to be signed, methods of delivery have to be planned. displays and merchandising set ups need to be planned and ordered and shipped, schedule trucks / planes to get merchandise to which stores, etc that takes MONTHS (i bet Nike's Retro roll outs are probably planned years in advance).

everyone from nike to the retailer to the end consumer is going to know when stores are getting what and when. retailers are going to have their own release dates (when they know they'll receive product and the date they're contracted out to start selling). it's going to get leaked by word of mouth or the internet and what happens is that you get unofficial release dates and people STILL camp out waiting for the trucks to pull up with the merchandise. random / unofficial / word of mouth release dates will create even more craziness at retailers because you'll have idiots camping out on a whim on random days.

has anyone noticed that apple doesn't have a official release date for the new iphone? but everyone knows because all the marketers and people who work in the sweatshops can figure out if youre purchasing X supplies and hiring out Y workers in the factory who can work Z speed that the iphone will be available on this or that date.

All it would have to be is an email from your rep giving you the green light.

Word to the liverpool Brons.

Why?
You dont see this stuff happening when the new iPhone, XBox, or PS3 drops. Those items are all higher priced and are in much more demand across all demographics. People camp longer for all those releases and you never hear about any type of violence.
The problem isnt WHAT is being sold, but WHO the product is being peddled to.
There isn't a limit to iPhones, Xbox's or PS3 though.

Nike specifically limits these shoes on PURPOSE to build hype. People are getting killed because of Nike producing hype. Nike should be ashamed of themselves :smh:

You are missing the point.

He was robbed for his cash, not the shoes.

It was a crime of opportunity. Not some crazy hyped shoe that some guy missed out on.

Not Nike's fault at all. He just so happened to be waiting for shoes while it happened. If it happened to a whole line of people waiting for coffee, would you blame Starbucks?

It is very unfortunate what happened to this kid. But sadly, its the world we live in. People get robbed and murdered every single day. This one just hits close to us all because we could see ourselves being in the victims shoes (no pun intended)

Damn, RIP. Unfortunately this is going to continue to happen but, it doesn't seem as if anyone is doing anything about it. Maybe they should just release sneakers in certain stores and have a squad car patrol or continue to do raffles and online releases, yeah, there's a lot of people that didn't like the raffle and always strike out online but honestly it's all better then something like this happening.

You guys need to read the article before you comment.

RIP to the kid, but you never resist when someone is robbing you. Give up the goods because unlike your life, those are replaceable.

Some of you guys gotta get out the bubble you live because people getting robbed and/or hurt in shoe related incidents has happened for decades now. This isn't a new phenomenon and won't be going away anytime soon as long as there are people who have no money out on the streets.
Maybe they should just release sneakers in certain stores and have a squad car patrol
If you're that concerned with something happening to you, just skip the shoes altogether because there's no one to help you if you get ran up on out in the street.
No they shouldn't.

i wish we could go back to the day where all shoes sat, no hype, no reselling, no kids dying over stupid pieces of plastic and rubber.

I heard that! I remember the days when NO ONE knew the release dates of sneakers. You would have to check stores regularly to see if some heat dropped. When sneakers like the OG Military IV's made it to clearance racks in TJ Maxx (true story).

Always remember, Nike mass produces these shoes for a few dollars each. So even if they charge $200+ for a pair of limited kicks... THEY ARE NOT WORTH YOUR LIFE! :smh:

Nike is not going to miss you or send flowers to your family if you get killed over their shoes!
