Yeah, since they ended our season, it's only right to start it off the season with them.

Which I wouldn't mind, Week 1, FULLY HEALTHY DALLAS SQUAD + Potential Gems in this years draft (if we do it right).

This happens every year. Teams that are supposed to be guaranteed wins end up losses and vice versa. Remember when the entire nation laughed at us for losing to KC week 2 because the year before they were a 2-14 team? Turned out they were one of the best teams in the AFC for a while. Or how about people clowning us for having to beat the 49ers in OT in 2011? Turns out they go 13-3 and to the NFCCG. Or how about Seattle last year? Things change year to year. What you think may be a brutal schedule can wind up being an easy schedule once week 8/9 hits and we see these teams win/loss records.

With that being said, the Cowboys are destined to go 8-8 under Garrett so regardless of what happens, this will probably be our fate.

Callahan getting all this blame for being unbalanced despite the fact that we've been unblanced since 2008. Getting tired of these scapegoats. That doesn't mean Callahan is somehow absolved from blame but Garrett was clearly calling plays after that second Giants game. And at the end of the day, he is the HC and still has a final say supposedly.

Remember in 2008 when Felix Jones didn't get one carry against the Redsksins in that loss? Despite the fact that everytime Felix had touched the ball up until that game he either scored or had like a 50 yard run?

This falls on Garrett.

Romo, the back most definitely worries me because he won't be the Romo we have all come to love. Even if he still has his mobility, he's one hit, or wrong turn away from another back issue. Gotta get his replacement now.

Babe is speculating that changes could still be coming. All the coaches have been on vacation. Said that firing Rob while he was on vacation was not received very well last year. So Jerry may wait until everyone comes back to can'em.

Said that Norv coming in as OC and Rod being promoted to DC are definite possibilities and would make "perfect sense/perfect fits."

More I think about it. It's clear that we need to focus on the front 7, and really nothing else.

On offense: There are holes in the O-Line. But it's not like we have nothing. Start calling more running plays and we'll be fine. Not worried about the pass at all, just have to take the pressure off Romo. When passing is the only way to go down the field, it's asking trouble. Murray is a great back, call his number. Hopefully he doesn't get injured. :rolleyes

Defense: If you focus on the front 7 only, and do everything you can to fix it, it will keep us from having to shell out money for a new secondary. More pressure on the QB, and more man Coverage will do wonders for our pass defense.

I think we found decent backups due to injury in Holloman & Selvie.

I would love to See Ware & Spence actually get a chance together in the 4-3.

Even if Ware cannot get to the QB he still commands a lot of protection, and if the RB is staying in protection almost always has to focus on him, which opens it up for everyone else. If we can fill the line with solid pass rushers next to Ware, QB pressure will be high and the secondary will look better. So long as we run more man than zone.

I'll follow Chia's lead and post my list
1. 2 DTs
2. OLB
3, DE
4. S
5. LG
6. RG

Everything else I'm fine with.

My draft needs

1. DT (high priority)

2. DE (high priority)

3. FS (high priority)

4. LB

5. WR

6. OG

7. OT

8. RB

Defensive line is obvious, FS is another must for me. LB we need depth at badly, WR believe it or not is a need for this team. They need another big WR to pair with Dez and in case of injury we need a guy.

1000% agree with each ofother the last two posts. I'm fine with Church-Carr-Mo-Scandrick, and they will look even better if there's a consistent pass rush. I like the Murray - Dunbar combo too. We can use depth at Lb, but I wouldn't put that as a high priority, same with Oline.

We need DT/DE/WR/FS in that order imo. If there's a true #1 WR/Starting FS that's attainable when we pick I'd have no problem drafting them first instead of Dline. Like Chia said, we might not think WR is a priority, but if Dez or Twill goes down, Beasley is the starter :x And I think Twill will be a top 25 WR in the league, pair another guy with him, Dez and Beasley and the offense can impose their will on defenses.

^this thank you, someone agrees with me!

I see WR as a need and swear I would take one in the first round. I got blasted for saying this on BTB, but if there is a really good WR there in the first we should take them. Say its Watkins or Benjamin that would only enhance the offense too.

I love TW and Harris, but we need another starting WR

We have bigger holes to fill.. A lot of teams have this same problem at WR.

Of course if your #1 WR goes down, you'll look bad.

We still have very good TEs that do nothing but run routes and catch the ball.

Our defense was historically bad. Not just plain old bad. Historically Bad. That's not even hyperbole either. The holes on defense need to be the first things looked at. Using a 1st Rounder on WR doesn't seem right, a 3rd or 4th if the right guy is there, then I'm with you.

Maybe you restructure Miles, hope he has same health as a #3. Or you try to do what SF did and use a late pick to get a #2 or #3 WR in a steal.

I know I'm in the minority but I think the defense can be average to slightly above average with the players we already have(if they can stay healthy :smh:) and decent coaching.

Teams can win the Superbowl with dominant offenses and a average defense. With the improvement from the Oline, Murrays play, and what we saw Dunbar is able to bring I believe the offense is only a WR away (and again, decent coaching :smh: :smh: :smh:) from being that dominant offense.

Not saying ignore defense, but I think we should follow the Denver,New Orleans, Green Bay model opposed to the Seattle, San Francisco, Baltimore model.

At the same time, I wouldn't even be mad if they went entirely defense in the draft.

I don't particularly care what order they go in as long as we get out of the first three rounds with guys that start on defense next year...

No reason whatsoever to not end up with a starting safety and a couple of front 7 starters in this draft.

Right tackle Doug Free has undergone ankle surgery but will recover in time to take part in the Cowboys off-season conditioning program, a source said.

Free rebounded from two disappointing seasons to play well at right tackle for the Cowboys in 2013. He was on the field for every snap. Yet it was clear once the season came to an end that he needed some clean up work on his right ankle.

There are no other off-season surgeries scheduled at the moment. Punt return specialist Dwayne Harris

Wtf...

I'm beginning to think the entire damn 53 man roster was injured and playing with said injury and were waiting til the off season to have surgery.

I'm sure Dez and his back are next...

If we start 3 rookies on defense next year then we are already in trouble.

I'm fine with drafting a WR early, like Benjamin from FSU or Evans from A&M if they are on the board (not sure where they're projected to go).

Yes we need depth on D, but we really need to start bringing in veterans from winning franchises. We lack that presence on our team. You can't keep rolling out guys who have never won in this league. The atmosphere started to seem different when we brought Waters in, outside of him, what other starter on our team has even made it to the AFC/NFC Championship team? Super Bowl?

To me that's our main problem. You can build all the depth you want through the draft but if you have a team full of players who haven't been successful in this league outside of individual accolades then it's very hard to succeed.

I fell for the training camp "were going to commit to the run" rhetoric last year.
Expecting a 1-4 start and all hell is going to break loose at the ranch.

At Least, 4 of our picks should go toward DT/DE/LB, definitely the first 2 rounds. Pass rush will make all the difference with this defense, besides staying healthy. Beef up this front 7, if there is a stud pass rusher, take him.

With that schedule if we don't make serious changes may be a disaster season because if there the same old hot and cold, injury prone team they will not get to 8-8

have yall seen the rushing stats of teams that won in the playoffs?

I know when youre up, you run the ball (thus the stats are a little skewed) but to win, you have to run the ball.

So why would we need to draft a receiver?

what is having one more target on the field going to do with our problem of defense, running the ball, and giving our playmaker (Dez) the ball?

Schedule is beyond brutal but rest of the division has the same games aside from the place games NFCSouth and NFCNorth opponent. Even if we won though it'd be a reasl longshot we do anything in the playoffs. :smh:

The year we led the league in sacks (08 or 09') the secondary was fine. If we're going defense it has to be the front seven. That group is more important.

Best thing Murray started doing last year was being selective about the hits. If he was getting cut off by multiple dudes and near the sideline he would just go out of bounds. Him being in the games late in the season is way better than him running hard early, getting injured late. He's just not built like that.

Last year with all the injuries I felt like we'd be getting a whole new team back pretty much. Only to get hit even harder this year. Rush Hour (Lee &Carter) didn't work out either. I thought they were going to be amazing together this season. :smh:
