THE OFFICIAL 2023 DALLAS COWBOYS OFF-SEASON THREAD || Cowboys Gonna Cowboy

I think Rod stays, especially if Kiffin retires. Nobody else is going to hire Kiffin as their DC and I doubt Rod is ready to hang it up.
I don't know about that ESP if Kiffin gets fired. He might go wherever Lovie goes if he gets a HC job next season. I don't know what to do but bump it lets make the playoffs cause we in that weirdo zone where we picking in the late teens anyway might as well try to get in and pray we go on a giants like run for a month.

I was referring to the point made that if Kiffin goes Rod will too. If Kiffin decides to retire on his own, I see Rod staying. If he's forced out and can't come to a mutual agreement with the team I expect Rod to follow. I like the point you made about Lovie, we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

This team doesn't have the mental toughness, a real leader, defense, or head coach to go on a run like the Giants.

I pray we somehow get Lovie.

EDIT: Harris and Claiborne out

Lee expected to play but not 100% sure

Teammates saying Hatcher is selfish for talking about his contract on air

Lee and Grandpa Kiffin had a meeting today...alone

Murray greatly benefited from the Tyler Cluttz signing

Claiborne is a chump. Point blank.

Yup. I'm officially done with him.

Moving up to take him was such a bad move looking back. Primarily because we switched schemes.

But this dude seems a little too comfortable in the training room.

Mo is definitely a bum, but I still can't fault the team for moving up to get him. Don't think anyone expected him to struggle like he has.

I just want to see a new coaching staff next year...Jerry isn't going anywhere so at least go after Gurden or someone man, anyone! Tired of these beta coaches we've had over the years.

So much talent and yet we are mediocre :smh:

Jerry will only hire beta coaches.

Bingo. Jerry has only hired beta coaches except for when his hand is forced because the team absolutely stinks. Then when the team gets good, Jerry Jones wants the credit and fires Jimmy after winning back to back Super Bowls.

Things have to get really bad (0-16, 1-15, etc) for Jerry to give up control and bring in a coach like Gruden/Dungy.

1988 - the season before Jimmy Johnson was hired
The team lost the next week at Texas Stadium to Philadelphia and finished 3–13, the worst record in the NFL and the team's worst record since 1960, when they were an expansion team.

2002
Following three straight 5–11 seasons, Dallas Cowboys' owner Jerry Jones lured Bill Parcells out of retirement and made him the head coach in 2003.

Jerry Jones eyes tricks after firing gimicky Ryan

IRVING, Texas (AP)
Jerry Jones fired Rob Ryan last season because his former defensive coordinator's scheme was too gimmicky.

Now the Dallas owner says gimmicks are what the Cowboys need with a defense that may go down as the worst in franchise history.

Monte Kiffin's new 4-3 alignment and the players trying to run it simply couldn't stop backup quarterback Josh McCown in Chicago's 45-28 win over Dallas on Monday night. McCown had four touchdown passes and a rushing TD and the Bears scored on their first eight possessions before McCown took a knee to end the game.

''We've got to look for ways to come up with whatever gimmick, whatever plan that we can to get us the ball and get some turnovers and get some possessions,'' Jones said. ''Did we ever stop them one time tonight? They scored every time. That says it all.''

Jones offered support for Kiffin on his radio show Tuesday, but the mounting evidence suggests the owner's biggest change of the offseason isn't working.

Dallas became the fifth team since 1991 to allow an opponent to score on the first eight possessions, according to STATS. The previous three teams won five games combined.

Somehow, the Cowboys (7-6) still control their playoff fate with Green Bay visiting Sunday, although they're a full game behind Philadelphia (8-5) in the NFC East for the first time this season.

''It feels like you've got to win out is what it feels like,'' quarterback Tony Romo said. ''It's felt like that for a few weeks.''

With five games of at least 490 yards allowed, the Cowboys have tied the 1965 Houston Oilers and 1950 Baltimore Colts for the most since 1950. They've set NFL records by allowing four quarterbacks to pass for more than 400 yards and surrendering 40 first downs to New Orleans in another humiliating loss, 49-17 a month ago.

In a twisted way, Dallas is used to bouncing back from horrid defensive games.

The Cowboys beat Washington after giving up 517 yards in a 51-48 loss to Peyton Manning and Denver, rallied past Minnesota after Detroit put up 623 yards. They produced a clutch winning drive at the New York Giants after having their bye week to ponder Drew Brees and the Saints going for 625 yards.

Now Dallas has a short week to get ready for the Packers, who could have Aaron Rodgers back. He has missed six games with a left collarbone injury.

''We've had a couple of these games this year,'' coach Jason Garrett said on his radio show Tuesday. ''Whether it's what we're doing with our scheme, our personnel, what we're asking guys to do, we've just got to make sure we get that done and we've got to get that done quickly.''

Healthy or not, the Cowboys couldn't stop the Bears. Chicago scored touchdowns on its first two drives with Sean Lee back at middle linebacker after missing two games with a hamstring issue. He went out later with a neck injury and his status is uncertain for the Packers game.

Health hasn't always been a gauge for the Cowboys.

Dallas won both games without Lee and shut down one of the league's best running games in a victory over Oakland. Philadelphia's only game without a touchdown was a 17-3 loss to the Cowboys when Dallas was missing defensive end DeMarcus Ware.

So the Dallas defense is hard to figure, but there is one brutal bottom line. With three games left, the Cowboys are just 138 yards shy of the team record of 5,549 yards allowed last season.

''The system's there,'' Lee said. ''It has everything to do with just executing properly. Gave up way too many big plays. Didn't get off the field on third down. Basic stuff. Didn't do it.''

:smh: :smh: :smh: :smh:

Cover 32: All 22 Breakdown Cowboys/Bears:

These were the more important parts of the breakdown of film IMO.

RB: I thought DeMarco Murray ran extremely well on Monday. It’s a shame that the defense couldn’t keep it close because Murray could have had a career day. I was hard on Murray earlier in the year, but he has really picked up his game the past few weeks and has run very hard. This is the DeMarco Murray that the Cowboys need for their offense to be successful. I was very pleased with Murray’s game, outside of one bad route in the pass game. Murray is playing the best football of his career.

WR: There isn’t too much to say about this group that I haven’t said in previous weeks. Dez was doubled often, but was still creating separation. Miles and Williams struggled to beat single coverage and Cole Beasley continues to make plays. It was your typical Dallas Cowboys wide receiver game.

TE: I want to highlight Gavin Escobar for a second. The catch that he made down the seam was a play that I wish we would see more often from him. Everyone knows that I have been critical of the Escobar selection and you could say his rookie year may have validated my opinion. But I actually don’t think that’s the case. I’ve seen a few plays from him that make me curious as to what he might become in a few years when he is the full time starter.

Its really sad that Dez gets so little targets and this offense does very little to get him open. I feel like JG gives Dez a route and says "Get open" instead of creating matchup problems/moving him around the offense. And despite all that, he's still creating seperation.

How on earth is he not the #1 option on most of our passing plays? Is this an indictment on only JG or is Romo part of the issue as well?

Wait Murray runs better with a fullback blocking for him... :wow: Who would have thought besides every one ever.

Hate to admit it but Murray has been great these past few weeks.

Philly gave us a huge break. Beat Green Bay today and than all we have to do is just beat Philly at home. Really thought we'd have to win out  Now we could possibly clench the division before the final game

Can we chill on all the passing and just run the damn ball. They havent been able to stop us, but we still had a sequence where we passed it 9 straight times smh

Bailey is probably the most reliable player on the Cowboys, along with Tyron.

Good to see the team finally moving Dez around. Dude is eating.
