I don't know guys, I'm already depressed about next season

This past season was our best shot to make the playoffs.
i'm not too excited about 2014, frankly I think this team is heading for a lot of trouble

Agreed. Said it earlier, Dez + Williams + Witten + Beasley working the slot +Lee/Benjamin/Evans can make this offense dominant.

Why Dallas might not take a Dlinemen in the first round http://www.bloggingtheboys.com/2014...-draft-a-defensive-lineman-in-the-first-round

Great read. This is why I'd be OK with a WR or FS in the first round. Much rather they go BPA then take a second round grade linemen in the first just because that's apparently the biggest need.
been saying we need another WR so I am cool with that, and we need a FS badly

so if we cant get our need, we immediately go to a strong suit of ours?

i just dont get yalls thoughts on a need at WR.

Exactly why not add firepower? Obviously they want to be a passing offense anyway.

The only DL I absolutely love are Hageman and Donald if they don't take them at 16/17 I'd look at Dix and Pryor or a WR.

I'm interested to see how the board is set up this year with McClay. Tom C was demoted and I think it had a lot to do with the Floyd incident last year. He looked pissed off when we traded down and I bet he was pretty vocal about that. After all he and his staff spend a year scouting these guys, not Jerry or the coaching staff.

Let me be clear and say Frederick looks like one hell of a pick though. There's not many centers out there and they are hard to find so that pick does look brilliant right now.

I don't think WR is that much of a strong suit. If they can get a Denver type WR core going why not? They really only have two outside receivers anyway, the rest are slot guys.

I'm not saying take a WR over a DL or S but if that WR is the BPA take him instead of the 5th or 6th rated DL.

I'd rather see this team draft BPA than off of pure need. When you reach and draft for need you get in trouble that way.

There's no exact science to the draft.

Look at last year at 31, if the Vikings didn't move back into the first for Patterson and he was there at 31 I guarantee we take him. He had a first round grade, one of the last they had. If they had a first round grade on him which they did and he was ranked above Fred which he was then that would've been the pick

Yeah like I said a few days ago, I'm not a fan of reaching for a DL in the first round, if an impact DL isn't there. I'm well aware it's a position of NEED but I'd much rather take the best player available on the board.

We have to be a strong player in free agency, I know our cap situation isn't great but we are at a point where we don't have time to wait for someone to develop. We need starters on defense that can make an immeadiate impact week 1 not week 10.

Wide receiver is a big reach first round. That's a luxury pick in my mind. A luxury we don't have.

There's other positions of need much higher on the list than receiver, if the best dlineman available has a second round grade, then trade down get more picks, nd get a valuable pick. Or pick another area of need there.

We don't need a receiver to be drafted high, no way no how. Too many holes to fill in D to consider that. IMO.

I feel what y'all are thinking. But even adding a first round receiver, I don't see this turning into green bays or New Orleans offense. We win games with balance. We need balance.

I don't think we are in a position to wait for someone to develop on the defensive side. Our recent drafts on the defensive side have been "fill-in" type of players (B.W. Webb). Break the bank on Greg Hardy and sign Henry Melton (one of Rod's favorite guys from Chicago) for cheap since he's coming off an injury. Also bring Spencer back. I would take a look at Jarius Byrd for our secondary as well.

Aren't you guys tired of drafting players like Matt Johnson, Victor Butler, Jason Williams, DeAngelo Smith, Mike Hamlin, Akwasi Owusu-Ansah, Jamar Wall, Josh Thomas, Kyle Wilber? Outside of Sean Lee, we haven't drafted an impact player on defense in a very long time. Not sure if I see things changing this year either :smh:

problem is, we don't have money to be a player in FA, been that way for years, they can only afford low impact guys and even then they have to do all this shuffling around just to sign them

Greg Hardy and Jairus Byrd are gonna get paid top 3 contracts at their position (10 mill+ per year). I doubt a team 25 mill over the cap can sign the top 2 premier FA's this year.

I know :smh: :smh: :smh:

My thing is, if they know we have these cap issues why not focus on drafting IMPACT players! Look at the names of the players we drafted on defense these past couple of years, NONE of the players I've listed above have done anything memorable in this league. Most of them aren't in the league anymore.

The struggle is real, not looking forward to next season at all :x

I'm aware of that, but we found a way to pay Brandon Carr top dollar and still squeezed in Livings & Mackenzy. We had cap issues that year as well.

Not saying we're going to go after Hardy or Byrd but it would be nice to see us land a legit starter in free agency.

I touched on that a few pages back. We gotta start hitting on these draft picks. That's a looong list of wasted picks.

We keep talking about this organization like it's main focus is football.
The main focus is filling seats and impressing corporations.
Nothing more and nothing less.
If the main focus was football we would have won a Super Bowl within the last 18 years.
It's something I have to keep reminding myself of.

Sad but true. This is probably the bottom line.

As football fans we love the game and everything it stands for.
As Dallas Cowboys fans were stuck in a conundrum of following and rooting for a team that has abandoned what made it great.
I'm "fortunate" to have seen the Landry and Johnson years.
This crap Jerry's putting on the field now (including the coaching staff) is an insult to the fan base.

If you're picking off need and not bpa you've already failed this team has so many holes I wouldn't be mad at a trade out of the first if the value is there

All I've read sofar is that the value at 16/17 is at wr with the safeties being in the low 20's would you reach a little for haha?

That's gonna change, plus everyone said we reached with Frederick last year nd he was far nd away our best pick. So "value" is there, and with as many holes as we have, there's bound to be someone there.

And I'm all with trading nd gaining more picks. I'm skeptical that we hit on those picks tho.

And if haha is there how don't we take him? That's a much much better pick than a receiver. Nd it fills a position of NEED.

We gotta go D-line in the first.
Or trade the pick for two 2nd rounders and a third or high 4th.
And we still need to go D-line with our first pick of the 2nd if we trade out of the 1st.

You are 100% correct. That is why the discussions of "Jerry needs to go" should probably cease because he isn't going to relinquish power.

On that note, I think I may be going to the game in London. Anyone else thinking of going?

Who is trading TWO 2nd rounders and a 4th for the 16/17th pick in the first round? That's something New England can pull off, not Dallas.

If they were playing a good team I would be out there. Not spending any money to watch us play Jacksonville regardless of location
